Stapleton’s Boosts Stock Capacity in New Premises

Twelve months on from the relocation of two of its main warehouse facilities, giant wholesaler, Stapleton’s has announced an increase in its stockholding capacity, as the company moves into newly opened premises next to its head office facilities in Letchworth. Stapleton’s says that the move has been inspired by the company’s ability to offer better levels of service in its new building through the ability to hold an extra 130,000 tyres, bringing the company’s total network capacity to around 700,000 units. The company says that customers are benefiting from increased service levels and improved stock availability.

The move by one the UK’s largest distributors follows relocations of two of its warehouse facilities in Bristol and Warrington to larger premises.

Stapleton’s Leads Way With Private Brands

Prestivo, Stapleton’s own brand range of tyres, plays a leading role in the UK private brand segment, according company representatives. Positioned as a quality mid-range tyre, Prestivo is said to offer high performance characteristics and comes in two tread patterns, Prestivo 2000 and Prestivo Sport.

The Prestivo 2000 range offers 35 tyre sizes and the Sport range is available in 21. Both ranges are available exclusively to members of Stapleton’s Prestivo Partners scheme which ensures all retailers receive the backing and support they need to maximise sales of Prestivo Tyres. The scheme offers exclusivity, attractive rebates, branded clothing, in-store support including posters, POS materials and other branded support items.

Bandengroothandel Mast: Industrial Tyre Specialist

Based near the port of Rotterdam, industrial tyre wholesaler Bandengroothandel Mast is garnering a reputation as a market leading specialist in this particular sector. The family owned, independent company has continued to expand its trading horizons over a number of years, and today it can report that a full range of industrial tyres is available within its CargoMaster and LiftGuard private brands. The products included in these two brands include solid, pneumatic, skid steer, extra heavy duty pneumatic skid steer and forklift tyres.

BCT Addition Makes VDB Total Private Brand Supplier

Van Den Ban’s (VDB) wide assortment of private brands serves a wide range of tyre market segments. And now that the company stocks the Chinese-produced Beijing Capital Tire (BCT) brand, VDB claims to hold all sizes and varieties in stock from budget tyres to high performance to SUV/4×4 tyres. “Last year we added BCT to our assortment and since then we can say we can supply all segments of the market, not only with premium brands, but also with our private labels”, says Cyril Versteeg, Commercial Manager with Van den Ban.

BCT sits at the budget end of VDB’s product portfolio and comes in a range of passenger car, (ultra) high performance, high performance, asymmetric and some light truck sizes. The S600 PCR range comprises 34 sizes from 13 to 16 inches in diameter, while UHP S800 and HP asymmetric S900 contain a total of 26 sizes and ranging from 14 to 19 inches.

Van den Ban Presents Its Brands

Van den Ban was an imposing presence at Reifen 2008 with a two level stand encompassing 170 m2 of exhibition space, displaying a wide assortment of premium and private brands. Blackstone, Novex, Federal, Hero, BCT, Silverstone and Sava were all exhibited.

VDB particularly concentrated on its Novex SUV Speed tyres, showing the wide range of SUV/4×4 tyres added to the Novex range during the last year. The SUV Speed is a very extensive line with sizes from 205/70/HR15 up to 275/40/WR20 and another 14 between them. The range boasts a very modern tread pattern, competitive quality/price ratio and the aforementioned wide choice of sizes.

Bandengroothandel Mast Offers Versatile Industrial Range

Bandengroothandel Mast’s fastest development in recent years has been the evolution of its large harbour, quarry and mining tyre ranges. This development gained momentum when the company became established as the appointed European distributor of Chinese manufacturer, Tianli.

During the course of 2007 Mast introduced a number of new ranges and additional patterns in the CargoMaster series including new options in solid tyres for skid steer. Another new product being developed has been radial OTR tyres, which are currently being tested and are expected to be available in the UK and Europe in the near future. This new CargoMaster range is produced in China and will be offered in smaller sizes including 23.5 25 plus larger sizes will be phased in during the course of 2008.

Deldo Reports on a Successful Reifen Show

The Reifen Essen Show, arguably Europe’s most prominent tyre event, is still fresh in our minds, and participants are taking stock of the week’s activities. One company that has already reported a successful week is Antwerp, Belgium based Deldo Autobanden N.V., a veteran of numerous exhibitions in Essen. This year the company notes that, thanks to its sizable 140 square metre booth, Deldo held a prominent position during the May 20 to 23 show. Deldo adds it is very happy with the show’s organisation, the number of visitors and the exhibition’s overall results.

During the show several new products were launched. An additional exclusive budget range for Europe, Rockstone, was amongst these new offerings, and Deldo states that now all exclusive and private brands (Wanli, Roadstone, Fortuna, Minerva and Rockstone) can offer a total range in summer and winter tyres. Today, Deldo is preparing the winter season, and will – as in previous years – hold a very large stock of winter tyres.

Prestivo Brand Drives Taylor Tyres’ Sales

Prestivo, one of the private brands in leading wholesaler Stapleton’s PCR portfolio, is reportedly bringing great sales benefits to too South West retailer, Taylor’s Tyres. Offering high performance and a comfortable ride, the range is available in two tread patterns, Prestivo 2000 and Prestivo Sport.

Cornwall-based Taylor’s Tyres is a long-standing Stapleton’s customer and has been stocking the Prestivo range since it was introduced in autumn 2006. The business is well established in the area and recently located to a new site offering car, motorcycle, truck and commercial tyres, including forklift trucks and tractors, as well as batteries, shock absorbers, brakes and exhausts.

Cooper Makes Sales & Marketing Appointments

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has made five key sales and marketing appointments that are as follows: Phil Kortokrax moves into the newly created position of vice president, dealer channel sales, and will be responsible for realigning the sales and marketing team with a channel and market-facing focus. Currently the general manager of Cooper’s Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Kortokrax started his career with Cooper in 1990 and has worked in computer programming, production management, as director of internal audit. He earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio, and a master’s in business administration from the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio.

Adam Zickert has accepted the position of director, wholesale channel. Zickert joined Cooper in 2005 as Great Lakes regional sales manager and most recently worked as business development manager for the North Central region. He previously worked as sales and marketing director for Rockford Products Corporation. Zickert earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Rockford College, Rockford, Illinois.

Tire Group International: Looking Further Afield

In its 15 years of existence, TGI has developed into a fast-growing company in the worldwide distribution of tyres and tubes. At Tyrexpo Asia, James Eiriz, Vice President of International Sales, told T&A that last year the company experienced a 15 per cent growth in sales.

This was mainly in the Caribbean and Latin America; areas where TGI is particularly strong. Indeed, some 65 per cent of the company’s turnover is achieved in Hispanic countries and now TGI is setting its sights further afield, with plans to expand into the USA (majoring on high performance and truck tyres) as well as targeting Western Europe and Asia, hence the presence at Tyrexpo Asia. Freight costs – especially from China – are increasing, says Eiriz, but he nevertheless expects business volumes to increase this year.

Hercules to Open Middle-East and SE Asia Offices

Hercules International boss Joe Recchia has told Tyres & Accessories that Hercules’ visit to the inaugural Reifen China exhibition is not about instantly accessing domestic sales in China, but rather establishing a foundation on which to build in the months and years ahead. Recchia’s plan is to grow Hercules’ export business from an international to a global player.

Up till now, Hercules has been a large manufacturer active in numerous markets all over the world – 93 at the last count, up roughly a third from the approximately 75 nations the company sold tyres to in 2006. But now the Canada-based operation is planning to turn global by establishing regional offices in a number of key markets in 2008. On the subject of China, Joe Recchia is clear that there is not much prospect of competing with Chinese manufacturers in terms of price, so the Hercules has plans to take the OE route to market. Recchia didn’t go into details of exactly which manufacturers he was referring to, but did say that the plans are expected to be underway in the middle of 2008. Hercules’ international intentions look set to focus on one of two of its private brands (perhaps even both), but Rechhia would only go as far as saying that they represent totally different distribution channels.

YHI Focusing on Advanti Racing and Neuton Private Brands

A company that is becoming one of the largest alloy wheel manufacturers amongst the countries lining the Pacific Rim is YHI International, headquartered in Singapore. Currently the company operates production capacities of 2.4 million wheels annually (in 2006 this figure was just 1.2 million) and has generated an annual turnover of more than 180 million euros through its wheel business. And if the company’s mid-term development plan becomes reality, by 2010 YHI will operate up to 24 production lines in its four alloy wheel factories in China, Taiwan and Malaysia. These lines will be able to produce about 4.3 million alloy wheels per year. “We will continue to develop YHI into a global brand”, said managing director Richard Tay in a recent company publication.

Infinity Truck Tyres Roll On

The Infinity tyre brand is a private brand, owned by the Dubai-based Al Dobowi group and manufactured by Chinese company Shandong Linglong Rubber Co. Infinity has always had a strong presence in European markets, where the distribution is controlled by Goldspark Trading, an Al Dobowi company.

In turn, Goldspark has appointed Kings Road Tyres as the main truck tyre distributor for the UK and Ireland, with Dutch company Heuver Banden looking after the countries in mainland Europe. The product range is continually being developed and added to, with new steer and drive patterns in sizes 295/80 R22.5 and 315/80 R22.5 creating a great deal of interest in the market.

Goldspark’s General Manager Rob Henderson describes the truck tyre brand as “excellent value for money” and, when it comes to the extent of the range, he points out that it encompasses sizes from 16″ tyres up to 445/65 R22.5.

Dick, Wolford Join TBC Board

(Akron/Tire Review) Long-time TBC Corp. executives Ken Dick and Orlando Wolford have been elected to the company’s board of directors. Dick is currently president and CEO of TBC’s wholesale and private brands divisions, while Wolford is CEO of TBC’s company-owned retail stores division.

Viking International Continues Growth

After 30 years of experience in the tyre business, Viking continues to improve its service.
