The growth Deldo reported when Tyres & Accessories visited the wholesaler’s headquarters in Antwerp earlier this year (as covered in our March 2012 issue) has continued throughout the first half of this year, Rutger Veerman related during Reifen 2012. And the international sales and marketing manager said its experiences at the show were equally positive. “We’ve had a good show,” Veerman shared. “We have seen a lot of existing customers, mostly customers from within Europe but also from outside, and we have had contact with a number of new customers. We’ve had interest from places as far away as Australia and New Zealand. We have had a lot of interest and now have plenty to do.”
US-based company TBC Corporation, which calls itself the country’s largest marketer of tyres for the automotive replacement market, has acquired automotive service provider Midas for approximately US$310 million. The all-cash transaction will see Midas shares change hands for $11.50 each, a price that represents a 75 per cent premium over Midas’ closing price of $6.58 on 11 August 2011, when Midas announced it would conduct a strategic review process, and a 28 per cent premium over the closing share price as of 12 March 2012. The proposed transaction has been unanimously approved by both companies’ boards of directors. In addition, Midas chairman, president and CEO Alan Feldman has signed a tender and voting agreement in support of the offer.
Stapleton’s head of marketing and range planning, Stephen Childs says the company’s latest NTDA TAFF Awards Tyre Wholesaler of the Year award – its second in as many years – and its leading position in UK tyre wholesale can be explained by the company’s “working for the customer” philosophy: “We’re keenly aware that it’s tough out there for our retail customers – and that’s why we’re working harder than ever to gear up our service to meet their needs quickly and accurately.”
The SEMA show has come to an end, and point S Development states the exhibition, where managing director Jürgen Benz and Independent Tire Dealer Group (ITDG) CEO Michael Cox signed a master franchise contract for the USA, more than met the company’s expectations. If the team behind the “Vendetta Tyres“ brand had its way, deliveries to a large chunk of the European tyre market would have already got underway during the course of this year. Yet, as Laree Jane notes, success in Europe involves building up both a new brand and customer relationships, and the director of Melbourne, Australia-based Vendetta International Pty. Ltd is confident of achieving this soon. Sales of Vendetta tyres began last year in the Australian home market and the brand will shortly be present in Canada, Argentina and Ireland, Vendetta’s first market in Europe. Vendetta International now has its eyes on entering further replacement markets; the company is seeking agencies in the UK and other European countries. Speaking with Tyres & Accessories, Laree Jane explained the company’s plans for Europe and what Vendetta International has to offer.
Wholesaler Stapleton’s offers high performance tyres from premium to budget brands, with the aim of providing a tyre for every car on the market. “With HP tyres, as with every other type, we’re steered by what our customers tell us they want: and that’s the total assurance that we’ve got every fitment imaginable available from stock – and at prices to suit every budget too,” says Stephen Childs, head of marketing & range planning. The wholesaler says it has a “proliferation of excellent products in the mid-range and budget sectors”, showing that high performance… tyres “are no longer the preserve of the wealthy end of the market spectrum”. Stapleton’s argues that it “tacitly acknowledges that quality and performance are for all of its customers at affordable prices and not just for the select few”.
Having witnessed the ascendency of private brands and exclusive budget labels in numerous European markets, the team at Tyres & Accessories has decided to pool its vast industry knowledge and release its own private tyre label. Known as ‘Tyrepress’, a subtle nod to the popular website the United Kingdom based company operates, this new range includes summer and winter sizes along with – in a European first – fitments specifically designed for spring and autumn use.
