First all-new licensed ContiTread plant opens in US

On 19 July, the first all-new ContiTread licensed retreading facility in the US officially opened. The DLS Retreading plant, located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, will serve the retreading market in its home state with truck tyres retreaded with ContiTread flat pre-cure treads, and will also offer emergency road service, truck tyre service and new Continental and General-branded tyres. The 72,000 square foot (6,689 square metre) facility includes a 16,000 square foot retreading unit as well as 11 service docks. DLS Retreading is expected to employ 50 workers within four years.

Million-milestone for Michelin retreading franchise

US-based Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) retreader Allied Oil & Tire Company has reached the million-mark. The company, which is located in Omaha, Nebraska, opened the doors of its MRT plant in 1998, and upon celebrating the retreading of its one millionth commercial vehicle tyre plant manager Don Roberts commented that “this milestone speaks volumes about our commitment to customer satisfaction and producing industry-leading retreads.”

China sets minimum targets for retreaders and waste tyre processors

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has introduced new policy guidelines covering the country’s retreading industry and waste tyre utilisation. These include directives regarding where a retreading facility may and may not be set up – no new retreading plants are to be established in environmentally sensitive areas – and also calls for greater consistency in the production process and with production equipment plus the implementation of product quality control systems and testing equipment in line with national and industry standards.

Kraiburg presents revised pattern programme

In June Kraiburg Austria revealed details of its new revised Pattern Programme for 2011/2012. The current programme shows the availability of the individual product lines, K_base, K_plus or K_tech, at a glance.

A colour coding system also allows direct and rapid identification of the patterns – even if they are available in two different lines. As always, blue has been used for the all-round line K_base. Green indicates the technology line K_tech. And yellow is the colour of choice for the high-performance premium line K_plus.

Kraiburg Hikes Hot and Cold Retread Material Prices

Kraiburg has adjusted the prices of its complete tyre retreading materials range. Effective 15 October, prices for the Austrian company’s hot cure and pre-cure materials will be increased between 15 and 20 cent per kilogram. According to the company, the price increase is “a necessary reaction to the dramatic price developments taking place on the commodity market at the moment.” Besides high natural rubber and carbon black costs, synthetic rubber is said to be in persistently high demand.

Oliver Rubber to Increase Prices

You can thank those rising costs yet again – citing increases in raw material, energy and transportation expenditure, Oliver Rubber is putting up the prices on its Oliver and MegaMile brand pre-cure bonding gum products in North America. The increases will be up to 6 per cent and take effect September 15, 2008.

TRIB Offers Retread Plant Tour CD

(Akron/Tire Review) TRIB has a new free CD available that provides an inside look at today’s modern retread plants. The e-tour highlights all steps of the retread process from the initial inspection through the final inspection after which the tire is ready for another full life. The CD was produced in a modern pre-cure retread plant, according to TRIB, and single copies are available at no cost to interested parties. TRIB said there is a nominal charge for multiple copies. Rösler Group to Become More International

The German Rösler group is aiming to further expand its international operations. The appointment of Klaus Mühlbäck (33) will see the Kraiburg veteran take responsibility for the internationalisation of the company’s business. In his new position he will promoting the Schelkmann brand that is owned by the German group. Currently the Rösler group only has three licensees in Europe for this OTR pre-cure retreading system, one of which is based in the UK. The company’s intention is to expand the number of licensees globally. Before he took on his new position Mühlbäck (33) spent 10 years working for Kraiburg Austria.

Goodyear Raises Retread Material Prices in US

In the US, Goodyear Tire & Rubber has raised prices on its pre-cure tread stock and cushion gum by up to 6 per cent. The increases came into effect on 1 March, Tire Review has reported. The company said the increases were necessary due to the “increasing costs of raw material, higher energy charges and rising transportation costs.” Prices on the company’s Ultima brand of pre-cure tread stock increased by up to 8 per cent, while prices for strip and slab rubber were bumped up by up to 7 per cent, according to Tire Review.
