Versalis has decided to permanently close its Grangemouth chemicals plant in Scotland due to a significant downturn in demand for elastomers. This announcement came a month after Petroineos, owner of the Grangemouth oil refinery, confirmed it would cease operations in 2025.
Arlanxeo has opened a new 65-kilotonne per annum polybutadiene (BR) production line in Brazil. Angelo Brazil, the company’s LATAM regional head, says that this “state-of-the-art BR production line” is a “direct response” to growing demand for the material in Latin America.
According to reports recently published by Research and Markets, the global solution styrene butadiene rubber (S-SBR) market is expected to reach US$5.40 billion by 2025, while the global polybutadiene market is expected to reach US$5.83 billion by that date.
