No, it’s not a new type of run-flat technology. A Texas man has found himself in prison after his customised tyre inners fell foul of the law. The man was stopped by police in Warren County, Kentucky after being previously observed weaving and driving too slowly while heading north on interstate 65.
A New Zealand man has ended up in court after getting more than he bargained for while changing a flat tyre on his car.
A 37-year old Wellington man pulled to the side of a busy street last December and was attempting to change his car’s deflated tyre when police arrived to give him a hand. However, the observant boys in blue spotted that all was not as it should be, and promptly booked the man for drink driving.

West Virginia man David Woods was stopped by police in the town of Beckley after officers observed his aging Oldsmobile speeding “all over the road,” with debris flying off the vehicle. After failing a field sobriety test Woods told police he was en route to an auto parts store to make some much needed purchases when he was pulled over.
Police in Colbert County, Alabama look set to become much better acquainted with their local tyre supplier after vandals destroyed the tyres on all but one of their patrol cars. A total of ten tyres were slashed on three of the department’s four vehicles, rendering the department unable to carry out its regular duties.

Tenneco has added a third Quick-Strut assembly production cell to its ride-control manufacturing facility in Paragould, Ark., to accommodate increased demand.
Research by Kwik-Fit(1) found that more than half (56 per cent) of UK motorists admit to driving too close to the vehicle in front – a contributory factor in 7 per cent(2) of road accidents in Britain last year. The Highway Code(3) provides clear rules on the distance that drivers should leave between themselves and the vehicle in front yet when tested, 9o per cent of motorists underestimated the distance required to stop a car at 30, 50 and 70mph.
One of the largest motorcycling events to be held in the UK took place in Stockton on Tees last month. (Akron/Tire Review) Italy’s Justice Minister Clemente Mastella has ordered an internal investigation to determine whether ministry officials were involved in an alleged plot to spy on civilians, according to ANSA news agency. Police have reportedly arrested 21 people, including two senior executives from Telecom Italy and parent company Pirelli SpA. The parties have been accused of illegal phone tapping and accessing secret bank, tax, phone and judicial records.
Scrap Tyres Solutions’ Ellesmere Port site has suffered a major fire, with police evacuating around 100 people from nearby buildings. The fire at the tyre yard, near the Shell Stanlow Oil Refinery, caused the closure of the M53 in both directions, with the ship canal also being closed as a precaution. 10 Cheshire fire crews were called to the large-scale blaze. According to local news reports, the fire involved two industrial units that housed “a massive quantity” of shredded tyres and spread to other tyres stored outside.
Police in the Gosport area are looking for a vigilante who has slashed the tyres of at least 20 people accused of driving while talking on cell phones. Tyre inflation specialist Pneumatic Components Ltd (PCL) is helping to keep Britain’s roads safe by supplying its equipment to Hampshire Police. PCL’s D10 digital wall-mounted unit is used to inflate tyres on the force’s fleet, which must be kept in peak condition at all times, with safety of paramount importance. With 900 police vehicles covering some 15 million miles per year, Hampshire Police must source only the highest quality products to maintain its vehicles under guidelines outlined in the government’s Driving at Work document.
It is believed that arson was the cause of a fire on wasteland in Shotton, Flintshire, North Wales, which destroyed more than 200 tyres. Two fire engines and a foam tender attended the blaze, and it took “dozens of firefighters” over two hours to extinguish. A plume of thick black smoke was visible from several miles away. Nobody was hurt in the incident and local police are asking anyone with information on how the blaze started to come forward.

Local police are looking for witnesses in the robbery, which occurred in the wee hours of April 1. According to reports, a security guard at the facility was jumped by three armed men wearing masks. He was thrown to the ground and tied up, and the suspects drove off with the two trucks.
