As part of its endeavours to be the “UK’s leading independent tyre dealer and car maintenance network,” in 2022 Point S Tyre & Autocare made a “substantial investment” in its independent auto centres. Point S says its members “can expect a year of further network development and progress in 2023” that builds upon this investment.
Point S has officially opened its first two pilot points of sale in Brazil. Located in Recife and Vitoria, the brand-new sites mark the beginning of an ambitious five-year plan. The announcement follows the news in April 2022 that Point S had signed a master franchisee contract in Brazil with ATO, whose shareholder companies are ADSTA and Orletti.
Following the news that Point S has broken through the 300-branch mark in terms of its UK tyre retail growth, Tyres & Accessories engaged with the experience of two of the network’s members. Here, Point S Tyre & Autocare Network members Gary Benwell and Russell Parker discuss how the network’s strategy of future-proofing tyre retail has boosted the profitability of their businesses.
Independent tyre dealer and car maintenance network Point S has signed a sponsorship contract with the European Handball Federation (EHF) to officially sponsor the 2022 European Women’s Handball Championship. The tournament will see Europe’s top 16 women’s national handball teams compete to be the best on the continent. Teams from Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland will travel to the cities of Ljubljana, Celje, Skopje, and Podgorica to participate in the event, which takes place from 4 to 20 November.
The suggestion that the UK tyre distribution space is ripe for consolidation is not new. But during the single week that we went to press with the latest edition at the start of October, three big tyre retail announcements were made. First Stop broke through the 150-branch barrier. Point S announced that its buying group of independent tyre retailers now numbers 300. And Halfords bought Lodge Tyres for just over £37 million.
Point S Tyre & Autocare has welcomed the 300th member into its UK network. October also sees the launch of a brand-new Point S website and a national television advertising campaign.
Point S Tyre & Autocare has appointed Jon Taylor as UK and European training manager. Taylor will now create a new Training Academy for Point S tyre dealer and maintenance networks across Europe.
Maidstone independent tyre dealer Tyrepoint has joined the Michelin Quality Centre network. The family-run business was founded less than four years ago by father and son team Karl and Mark Webber. The joint managing directors have strong industry experience; Karl established his first dealership in 1978. Tyrepoint has built its customer base by offering premium service supported by online reviews and social media marketing. Martin Thompson, Michelin’s AGB brand manager UK & Ireland said, “we’re delighted to give them our seal of approval.”
Following on from openings in mainland China and Singapore earlier in 2022, the Point S master franchisees in Hong Kong and mainland China have opened more Point S locations.
Having joined the company in August 2021, Point S Tyre & Autocare has appointed Tony Valentine as fleet manager. Up till now, Valentine has been a business development manager for the network. From here on he takes responsibility for establishing and growing Point S’ presence in the fleet market. This will involve building close relationships with fleet managers and working closely with Point S members to develop “the network’s one-stop shop for fleet service, repair and maintenance”.
With the launch of its latest cold weather passenger car tyre for Central and Western Europe, Point S continues the ‘what it says on the tin’ naming format we saw at the launch of its summer range last year. Simply called Winter, the new line replaces the Winterstar 4.

Throughout the four day trade show, Point S will be celebrating the history of the tyre trade by way of an exhibition that promises to tell the story of the profession over the past 100 years.
