Pirelli has announced that Selecta Tyre Ltd in Rugby has won its annual Pirelli Performance Centre (PPC) of the Year award after scoring exceptionally highly in the 2014 club audit.
Known for its style, speed and performance marketing values, Pirelli & C. S.p.A. is a multinational company based in Milan, Italy, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since 1922, with a temporary privatization period by the consortium led by the Chinese state-owned enterprise ChemChina.

Round two of the 2015 Rally World Championship provided testing conditions for the four tyre suppliers – Michelin, Dmack, Pirelli and Hankook – allowing tyre characteristics to take centre stage. Ice, fresh and melting snow, mud and frozen dirt, meant that studs were employed for winter traction – 384 in each Michelin X-Ice North 3, for example. However, this meant that carrying extra tyres made for faster running, Jacques Morelli, manager of Michelin’s World Rally Championship programme, explained.

Pirelli will support local football club Burton Albion FC’s Community Trust Ghana project for the second consecutive year. The tyre manufacturer, a long-term sponsorship partner of Burton Albion, is donating £500 to apprentice Joe Green’s target of £2,500 to support his travel costs to participate in the project. The Burton Albion Community Trust Ghana project involves young people travelling to Ghana to help with various community projects, such as building houses in some of the most deprived areas in the world as well as volunteering in schools. Green will visit Ghana in May for 11 days.

To become a Pirelli Performance Centre, each dealership has to meet a set of very demanding criteria, ensuring that only the best achieve PPC status.
Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP will be fitted to the new Ducati 1299 Panigale, 1299 Panigale S and Panigale R as original equipment in 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 200/55 ZR17 (rear). Pirelli and Motor Wheel Service Distribution have signed a preferential supplier agreement. Available to original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket, the service covers MWSD’s complete range of Chevron marked steel wheels, designed to promote future traceability, and the company’s exclusive xlite forged aluminium wheels. This latest partnership follows an agreement with Goodyear Dunlop CV support network, TruckForce, in which MWSD became its preferred commercial wheel supplier. There are just 100 Pirelli Performance Centres in the UK, making it something of a premium club. Network members are audited and must be “high-quality, high-performance tyre dealerships from across the UK” in order to join. According to Pirelli, only the very top tyre dealers are considered to join the network and a strict set of criteria applies.
The latest innovation to emerge from Pirelli’s Milan headquarters is the “Cyber Tyre” and with it Pirelli believes it is pioneering a new generation of tyre technology. The Cyber Tyre features embedded sensors and is designed to provide vital information about vehicle performance and road conditions. The idea is that this data is then conveyed to the driver as well as to the car’s electronics, helping improve safety and efficiency.
Starting 5 January, Stephen Marsh has taken on the role of retail development manager at Hankook Tyre UK. Marsh brings with him 30 years of industry experience at numerous companies, including Kwik Fit, Pirelli, CPK Auto Products and Stapleton’s Tyre Services, and he is tasked with the goal of contributing to the further development and expansion of the Hankook Masters Program in the UK. The tyre maker views his extensive experience as a trainer as an important skill that will allow him to provide added value to the network. Marsh will also work with other regional retailers and assist in developing the reach of Hankook’s portfolio.
On 9 January, Pirelli signed a new revolving and term loan multicurrency facility worth a total of €1.0 billion and with a maturity of five years. The facility replaces an existing €1.2 billion revolving line of credit that is due to expire in November 2015 and which, as a consequence, will be cancelled in advance. The new revolving credit line totals €800 million while the Term Loan amounts to €200 million, with an amortisation structure which reflects the Pirelli Group’s cash flow generation and deleveraging trends.
Alongside the announcement of its introduction of P Zero branded tyres into the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, Pirelli has launched its 2015 motorsport calendar at Autosport International. The tyre manufacturer is to compete in four key disciplines: single-seaters, saloon cars, sports and GT cars, and rallying.
