Diablo Corsa III – Equally at Home on Track and Road

As the official tyre supplier to the World Superbike Championship (SBK), Pirelli’s latest tyre, the Diablo Corsa III, owes its development to Pirelli’s vast racing experience. As such, the new tyre is equally at home on the racetrack, motorways and ordinary roads.

The tyre boasts no fewer than three different compounds, with separate compounds for the front and rear tyres and the rear tyre itself further divided into three zones. The front tyre incorporates rigid, high hysteresis compounds, designed to dissipate energy efficiently. This provides fast warm up, more grip, thanks to a balanced silica/carbon black compound and good traction and braking. Stability at high temperatures is provided by utilising new structural materials.

Diesel Driven Audi Takes Le Mans on Michelin Tyres

Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner scored a victory in the 2006 Le Mans 24 Hours in front of 235,000 spectators. Audi has effectively succeeded in its bold bid to win the world’s most demanding endurance race with diesel technology. And Michelin rose to the challenge to join its partner on the top of the podium, its ninth consecutive victory at Le Mans. The French tyre firm was also successful in the LMGT1 category with Chevrolet Corvette and in LMP2 with the RML-run Lola.

Pirelli also came away with honours after the LNT British team, Panoz Esperante, won the LMGT2 category. Pirelli took the LMGT2 title with Yokohama-equipped teams following in second and fifth places in the same category.

Pirelli Announces IPO Date, Sells Inter Milan Shares

The Board of Directors of Pirelli & C. S.p.A has announced it will begin its initial public offering for Pirelli Tyre S.p.A on 21 June. Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. gained Borsa Italiana approval for the listing on 12 June 2006. Banca Caboto, Capitalia, Goldman Sachs International, J.P. Morgan Securities, Mediobanca, Merrill Lynch International and Morgan Stanley, will act as Global Coordinators for the Global Offering.

Pirelli Readies IPO Plans

(Akron/Tire Review) Pirelli SpA has cleared a key hurdle in its quest to issue stock for its tyre group. Milan’s bourse cleared the listing of shares in Pirelli Tyre, but no timetable for the possible listing was given. Regulator Consob must still approve the IPO. Mediobanca SpA and Banca Akros SpA have been retained by Pirelli to handle the potential IPO.

The reputation of Dunlop as a full road race tyre received a huge endorsement recently as Morecambe based John McGuinness, riding factory prepared HM Plant Honda machinery, moved into the list of TT Hall of Fame with eleven Isle of Man TT victories. Pirelli to Exclusively Supply Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Pirelli is to supply original equipment for the new Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. The latest model presented by Lamborghini will be exclusively equipped with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa System ultra-high-performance tyres. The low-profile P Zero Corsa System tyres are reportedly derived from the company’s competition experience and are designed for use on both road and track.

GB Team Takes Flag in Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli

Ferrari GB took the chequered flag for the first time this season with a perfect first and second place in the Spanish sunshine as the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli moved to Valencia (2,3,4 June).

In the second round of the 2006 season, the racing was tough in temperatures of 28°C and the Ferrari Challenge Dealer Team GB worked hard in qualifying to ensure that both cars in the Trofeo Pirelli dominated the front row of the grid with pole position and second place.

Pirelli IPO Could Raise a Billion Euros

The floatation of Pirelli & C. SpA’s tyre unit could raise as much as 1 billion euros two inside sources told Bloomberg. According to the report Pirelli is seeking to take advantage of increasing profit at Pirelli Tyre SpA and plans to sell as much as 40 per cent of the division in the IPO. The shares are scheduled to go on sale during the week beginning 12 June said the sources.

Reports Say Pirelli Considering F1 Return

(Akron/Tire Review) News reports say that Pirelli SpA may throw its hat back into the Formula One tyre ring. According to Autosport magazine, Paul Hemery, head of Pirelli’s motorsport programme, said the company was considering all of its options after FIA began accepting bids for tyre suppliers for the 2008 season.

Pirelli to Errect Turbine Mast

Pirelli’s plans to construct a 393-foot tall wind turbine at its factory in Carlisle, have moved a step further. “If the wind speeds match data collected over the years at Carlisle Airport, then we can put forward a final working proposal to Milan,” a Pirelli spokesman said. The first phase is to erect a 45-metre tall mast to measure wind speeds and directions on 8 June. The factory has set a target of having the turbine fully operational in the second half of 2007.

Pirelli’s Francesco Gori to be President of New Trade Association

Francesco Gori, General Manager Tyre Sector, Pirelli&C SpA, was nominated President of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) following the first Board meeting today in Brussels. The new non-profit association, the formation of which was announced today in Brussels, will replace the former rubber industries trade association (Bureau de Liaison des Industries du Caoutchouc “BLIC”) founded in 1959. The new association is designed to represent the tyre and general rubber goods industry with the European Union Institutions and other international organisations.

Pirelli Launches New Scorpion ATR

Need a tyre that can perform on any surface, while remaining quiet and looking good? Pirelli says the new Scorpion ATR does exactly that. Attending the tyre’s launch in Tozeur, Tunisia Tyres & Accessories asked if a tyre capable of performing strongly on sand and in wintry conditions really can be quieter and more comfortable than any other 4×4 tyre Pirelli has produced?

At the Scorpion ATR’s launch, Pirelli representatives spoke of the Italian manufacturer’s latest 4×4 offering with no small measure of hyperbole. Describing the Scorpion ATR as “Another Tyre Revolution”, the company was basically saying that its latest offering is aimed squarely at the “would like to go off-road, but won’t make a habit of it” market. But that is not to say that it doesn’t perform. According to Pirelli, the new tyre outperforms its predecessor, the Scorpion A/T, in almost every respect. The product is situated right in the centre of the company’s 4×4 portfolio and represents a serious attempt to please as many SUV drivers as possible.

Pirelli: Quitting WRC Only One Option

Pirelli have confirmed that they are ‘reviewing’ their position with regard to competing in the FIA World Rally Championship beyond 2006. Reports in the latest edition of Autosport speculate that the Italian tyre manufacturer is considering quitting the sport and that they are less than happy now that Michelin is promoting its sister brand, BF Goodrich. However when contacted by Crash.net for clarification, Pirelli’s rally manager, Paul Hembery added that quitting the sport is only one option and that ‘many scenarios’ are possible for 2007 and beyond.

Pirelli and Schrader to Develop New Tyre “Check-Up” Sensor

Pirelli and Schrader have agreed to join forces to take “intelligent” tyre production a step further. The new system, based on a mini-sensor capable of generating its own power, can for the first time be located within the tyre itself and allows the tyre identification data and its temperature and pressure to be monitored in real time and transmitted to the car and driver.

Schrader took on 100 new staff at its Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland facility at the beginning of April. This move was supported by £3.5 million of funding from Invest NI and brings the total number of staff at the plant to 160.
