Safety Seal recently conducted high speed tests on Run Flat and High Speed Tyres that had been repaired with Safety Seal tyre repair material. The repair of Run Flat tyres has been the subject of much discussion and there have been different positions taken by manufacturers depending on the type of construction and performance ratings of the tyre.
(Akron/Tire Review) Pirelli tyres will have a prominent place on a “new and highly original” syndicated television show called “Payback,” which debuts on Speed TV this week. The show features celebrities who pay back some of the unheralded people behind their rise to fame with customized vehicle, according to Pirelli, which will be involved in the show’s inaugural broadcast 12 July. In the debut show, Jay Leno has a Corvette customized, including Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico radials.
Pirelli is to supply original equipment for the new Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. The latest model presented by Lamborghini will be exclusively equipped with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa System ultra-high-performance tyres. The low-profile P Zero Corsa System tyres are reportedly derived from the company’s competition experience and are designed for use on both road and track.
Pirelli is to be the new official tyre supplier to the Volkswagen Racing Cup in the UK. All competitors in the 2004 championship, which gets underway in April, will run on Pirelli P Zero tyres. The Volkswagen Racing Cup joins the UK’s Seat Cupra Championship and the Pirelli Maranello Ferrari Challenge in using Pirelli tyres. The company also supplies its product to the American Le Mans Series and to GT teams internationally. Since its inception in 2000, the Volkswagen Racing Cup has grown to become one of the best-supported and most successful club championships in Britain. Last season more than 30 drivers took part, handling cars ranging in size from a 1.8-litre turbocharged Lupo to a four-wheel-drive Golf R32.
The Maserati Quattroporte made its world debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, fitted with Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres as OE. The Quattroporte is described as “the fastest sedan in the world”, with a top speed of 172 mph, and the tyre sizes are 245/45 ZR18 (front) and 285/40 ZR18 (rear).
Aston Martin has chosen the Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyre as OE for its prestigious, limited edition DB7 Zagato. Based on the DB7 Vantage, but with more power, the hand-built Zagato has uprated brakes, sports suspension and an all-new two-seater aluminium coupe body.
The recently-launched Lamborghini Gallardo will be fitted exclusively with Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres as original equipment, maintaining a 40-year partnership between the two companies. Tyre sizes are 235/35 ZR 19 (front) and 290/30 ZR 19 (rear).
Pirelli P Zero tyres have been chosen as standard OE fitment on the Saleen Thunderbird Bonspeed Edition Concept Car. The car was originally planned as a one-off for the Sema show, but such was the reaction that it was decided to go into production with the vehicle. Saleen Inc. has a reputation for the design of high-performance speciality vehicles and, for the past five years, has exclusively chosen Pirelli tyres.
