PCL has named PC Products International Co Ltd as its new distributor in Thailand. PC Products, is primarily a manufacturer of wheel balancing weights, but is now also PCL’s official local partner in Thailand servicing the automotive and tyreshop markets.
According to PCL, the Sheffield-based firm’s Nexus nitrogen generation and tyre inflation unit is fast becoming “the top choice for users looking for a superfast solution, with visitors to this year’s Brityrex impressed with its flexibility and benefits”.
Following the news that PCL couplings will now no longer be gold in colour, Tyres & Accessories visited the company’s Sheffield manufacturing. After this – in order to get a more global perspective – T&A visited PCL’s China operation and interviewed local general manager Robert Wang. China is, of course, a key growth market for many in the automotive and automotive aftermarket industries who are seeking to capitalise on the country’s strong manufacturing base, huge population and growing middle class. PCL is no-different, having relatively recently established its Shanghai operation as a means of getting a foothold in China. However it is also a complex market where market saturation and counterfeiting are barriers to entry and development.

While switching from silver to gold is arguably an aesthetic improvement it is clearly a lot more than that. As we have seen there are clear environmental and ethical benefits (several times during T&A’s tour company representatives spoke of how the switch was simply the right thing to do from a number of perspectives). It is also about communicating both the change and the reasons for it. Indeed, it is now that the phased changeover is well underway, that the tough work really begins.
Silver is certainly not runner-up to gold at PCL; the company reports that its famous “Made in Sheffield” couplings began the transformation from gold to silver at the start of the month for the sake of the environment. The switch to a more environmentally-friendly manufacturing process means a change of colour for the PCL couplings, however they will still be made from hardened steel to ensure extra durability.
PCL says its Nexus nitrogen generation and tyre inflation solution will be taking centre stage at this year Brityex on Stand 63. The company’s innovative new system provides cost-effective nitrogen delivery hand in hand with PCL’s world-renowned digital inflation technology, giving a guaranteed inflation accuracy of ± 0.5%. The idea is that customers can benefit from superfast nitrogen inflation from their existing air supply, without needing to buy, store and handle expensive nitrogen bottles.
Sheffield-based Pneumatic Components Ltd – better known as PCL – says its nitrogen inflation equipment is making hefty inroads into the South African market. The company shares that it is enjoying particular success with its Nexus Compact model. PCL says this inflator is unique in that it can be fitted to the inside or outside of mobile tyre service vehicles while covering every tyre inflation application, from passenger cars to large commercial vehicles, including trucks and OTR tyres.
The management of Pneumatic Components Limited, or PCL, reports that Germany’s HORN GmbH & Co.KG (Horn Tecalemit) has acquired all shares in the Sheffield-based business for an undisclosed sum. This deal took effect on 1 October 2011 and although the two companies will continue to trade independently, PCL and Horn Tecalemit say the acquisition will give both firms “access to a wider range of complementary products” and benefit customers, suppliers and company employees.
