Corghi Sets Its Sights on Australia

(Australia/Australian Tyre Dealer) Corghi, the world’s largest Italian manufacturer of tyre service equipment, is aiming to increase its presence in Australia.

After a number of years in the doldrums, Corghi brand wants to play a major role in the Australian tyre market again. Under newly-appointed general manager, Jonathan Gant, Corghi is looking to replicate the success it has enjoyed in New Zealand, where its Italian-made wheel balancers and tyre changers enjoy more than 60 per cent market share.

Chinese “Not Interested” In MG Rover

The UK Government and the administrators were informed this morning that SAIC “are not willing to acquire either the whole or parts of the MG Rover or Powertrain businesses on a going concern basis out of administration, nor are they willing to establish a UK joint venture incorporating the whole or parts of the MG Rover or Powertrain businesses.”

The administrator, PWC, has told the Government that it will not be applying for any further government loan to stave off redundancies at the company.

Michelin to Exploit F1 Advantage

Williams and Michelin are working to “exploit” their advantage having experienced “minimal” tyre wear in the opening three races of the season, reports Planet F1.

The team spent three days testing at Barcelona where they covered a total of 533 laps. “We worked through a comprehensive test on tyre compounds, aerodynamic parts, traction control and general set-up,” technical director Sam Michael said. “The tyre wear that we have is far from the limit, as it has been in the first three races with the FW27, and we are working with Michelin to exploit this further.”

Yokohama Rubber to Participate in Aircraft Interiors Expo 2005

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., will participate in the three-day Aircraft Interiors Expo 2005, which starts today at the Hamburg International Exhibition and Conference centre. The annual event is the world’s largest for aircraft interiors. The company will exhibit its lavatory modules and water tanks in its first appearance at the exposition.

Customers Help Design New Delphi Catalogue

Delphi has announced details of its latest friction catalogue. The 2005/6 guide was designed in conjunction with customers and features am improved new-to-range section and buyers guide, better application detail, more European languages and, for the first time, the use of product symbols.

“We’re always seeking constructive feedback from our customers and using this to fine tune our service offering,” said Lesley Culpan, European marketing manager – braking. “As a direct result of this approach, this latest catalogue is smaller but still contains plenty of handy diagrams to ensure our customers spend less time looking for the right parts and more time serving their customers.”

Other significant improvements include the use of OE numbers and thumbnail drawings in the new-to-range section, together with an improved buyers guide. “Because this catalogue is used across Europe we’re really conscious of the potential language barriers that can arise,” continued Mr Culpan. “The use of symbols against products is a first for us but specifically designed to save time when identifying parts, whatever the language.”

New Addition to XTR Alloy Range

Euro Car Parts has announced a new addition to its XTR alloy wheel family. The Sabre, complete with Hyper Silver Finish, is available in 15 inch to 18 inch sizes and joins the Jagged, Revolve, Phaze and Coast in the XTR alloy range (prices start from £233.95 for a 15 inch set to and £304.95 for 17 inch models). All XTR wheels are available as wheel and tyre packages, with a choice of rubber to suit all pockets. The price includes chrome valve caps, balancing and tyre fitting.

SmarTire Signs With Travel Technology Innovations

SmarTire Systems Inc has announced that it has signed an agreement with Travel Technology Innovations, LLC (TTI) to distribute SmarTire’s active tyre monitoring systems. TTI is a newly formed, Detroit based joint venture between Detroit Chassis LLC and Redmer Industries that was created to market and sell SmarTire products. Both companies bring an extensive and successful track record of supplying original equipment and aftermarket parts and services to the automotive, recreational vehicle and transportation industries.

Autopromotec 2005 is ‘Sold Out’

Exhibition space at Autopromotec 2005 is all sold out, with a number of company’s even joining a waiting list to take part in the show, exhibition organisers have reported. Furthermore, they are forecasting that attendance at Autopromotec 2005 will exceed the 2003 show, which counted 83,850 industry professionals from 103 countries.

SmarTire Supplies North American Coaches

SmarTire has signed an agreement with North American company, Motor Coach Industries International (MCI), for the supply of its bus tyre monitoring system.

MCI designs, manufactures and markets coaches and coach-related parts and services for the market, it currently produces approximately 1400 new coaches per year. The agreement covers both aftermarket installations on existing MCI coaches and original equipment installations on at least one of the company’s production lines this year.

‘Breakthrough period’ for Matador

“Matador Group has completed another successful year,” said company spokesperson, Dušan Koblišek in a statement about its 2004 activities.

Describing Matador’s acquisitions and its move into the automotive supply segment as “a breakthrough period in the history of our company,” he went onto explain that the group’s initial consolidated results recorded a profit before tax of SKK 388 million (£7 million).

BorgWarner: Continued Growth Expected in 2005

BorgWarner Inc has reported 2004 earnings of $3.86 per share on sales of $3.5 billion (£1.9 million). In the fourth quarter of 2004 the company also recorded sales of $889 million (£477 million) up 11 per cent compared with the same time in 2003. BorgWarner reports that this equates to an operating income margin of 10 per cent.

Kwik Fit’s Pit Stops Criticised

German television programme ‘Frontal 21’ has attacked the quality of service delivered by Kwik Fit owned Pit Stop following a series of mystery shopper investigations across the country.

Frontal 21, which is broadcast by ZDF in Germany, claims that a succession of Pit Stop outlets made the unnecessary and costly replacement of brake parts that had been deemed effective by experts prior to the investigation.

ArvinMeritor Awarded Ford Accreditation

ArvinMeritor Inc has been awarded Q1 certification from Ford Motor Company. The award, which was presented by Terry Revord, Ford North American Supplier Technical Assistance Engineer, recognises Ford suppliers who demonstrate excellence in product quality, on-time delivery and outstanding customer service.

When presenting the award, Revord said: “The Q1 award symbolises that ArvinMeritor Chickasha is among the very best suppliers to Ford Motor Company, with the commitment and processes in place to consistently provide the highest quality parts to our customers.”

“We are very proud to receive Q1 certification today,” added Paul Rogers, director of operations for the Chickasha facility. “Our employees have worked very hard for almost a year to meet Ford’s stringent requirements to be certified Q1. We value our relationship with Ford and look forward to supplying them with superior ride control products for many years to come.”

The Chickasha facility has more than 650 employees and manufactures automotive shock absorbers and MacPherson struts. The Q1 celebration included a cookout served to employees by facility management.
