The UK’s leading network car breakers have revealed that Londoners are the UK’s most accident prone, with those from Bristol and Glasgow coming in second and third based on demand for car parts in those areas. The is based on data generated by breakeryard.com, which reveals the cities and towns around the UK that have requested the most parts from the site since it launched in 2003.
At least one motor insurance company is warning motorists off using imported tyres designed for use in warmer climates. One company, Be Wiser insurance, suggested that such tyres “will not offer the correct grip in Europe.”
Saab Parts UK hopes to ensure a consistent supply of used Saabs on forecourts following the 2011 demise of the company by launching a new national broker service for their pricing and placement on 1 August, 2012. The facility for Saab trade enquiries will be administered by a dedicated and highly experienced Saab used car expert based at Saab Parts UK’s HQ in Cranfield. The parts company’s move into vehicle brokerage is inspired by the 188,000 Saabs on UK roads.
Following what the organisers deemed to be the success of the first Tyre & Rubber Indonesia in 2012 (alongside INAPA 2012, IIBT 2012, Heavy Equipment Indonesia 2012 and INABIKE 2012) Tyre & Rubber Indonesia 2013 will be held from 26 – 29 March 2013 at JIExpo Kemayoran. The last show reportedly attracted 821 exhibitors from 21 countries, 21 international groups, 22,800 trade attendees from over 41 countries and occupied total area 33,000 square metres gross.
Euro Car Parts opened 11 new branches, in the second quarter of 2012, continue on its rapid growth trajectory. Delivering on its promise to make Euro Car Parts (ECP) the biggest aftermarket supplier in Scotland, ECP opened two new branches in June alone – Edinburgh East and Perth. The doors also opened at new stores in Borehamwood and Telford during June, with these four branches combined, creating over 200 new jobs. The company opened 17 new branches between Jan – June 2012.

Toyo Tire & Rubber reports it will make changes to its business structure as of 1 January 2013. On that date, the development, manufacture and sales of railway vehicle parts, OA equipment parts, industrial, construction and waterproof materials products will be consolidated into the Toyo Chemical/Industrial Products Sales Corporation. This consolidation will take place in order to optimise management resources in the company’s Diver-Tech business segment, Toyo says. The company, whose name will change on 1 January to “Toyo Chemical Products/Industrial Co., Ltd”, will be operated as a new company which will oversee this integrated business in the Toyo Group.
Remy Automotive, the automotive parts manufacturer, has appointed Peter Cunningham as key accounts manager, with a national responsibility, at Remy Automotive UK Ltd.
Cunningham has been in the UK motor trade since 1983, working initially in sales for two leading motor factor groups prior to working for Turtle Wax and Wynn’s, latterly as an area manager. He worked for Remy as a key accounts manager for 2 years before leaving in 2010 to pursue other interests. According to the company, he is delighted to return to Remy, working on a national basis.
Automechanika has added India to its range of international trade fairs. With ACMA Automechanika New Delhi, which will take place from 7 to 10 February 2013, Messe Frankfurt will be offering access to the much talked about Indian market. The fair will be held in Pragati Maiden, in Halls 8, 9, 10 and 11. Member of Messe Frankfurt's executive board, Detlef Braun explained: "In ACMA, we have found a partner, who will make our new Automechanika in New Delhi into a leading event for the sector in the region. Moreover, the association will help us to get our portfolio of Automechanika fairs better known among its members."
A survey of British motorists found that almost two thirds of drivers are opting to leave their cars behind to travel by other means in order to save money, Bridgestone UK research has revealed. The research, commissioned by the tyre manufacturer, found that 65 per cent of people have stopped using their car so often in an effort to save money and 67 per cent are encouraging their families to walk more as part of a wider cost cutting exercise.
Saab Automobile Parts AB has signed an agreement with the administrators of Saab Automobile AB allowing them the use of Saab’s press and body shop plant, including the specialist tooling, for the manufacture and assembly of body parts. The decision has been welcomed by Saab Parts UK, which said that the restart of in Trollhättan for parts manufacturing would allow parts availability to return to the levels experienced before production was halted. The UK parts supplier has been trading for almost four months, and the company says it continues to grow its network of authorised repairers.

Motorcycle insurance broker Carole Nash is to introduce free security marking kits as a standard benefit not only on all new road and off-road policies, but also on renewals. The move comes after a successful trial of Carole Nash DNA+ at the end of last year, which saw thousands of satisfied customers apply the anti-theft measure to their cherished motorcycles.
Italian brake manufacturer Tarox has launched its carbon ceramic ultra-high performance braking range. The new discs draw on the company’s motorsport experience, which extends to Formula One. The company says the new parts are marketed as aftermarket replacements for vehicles factory fitted with carbon ceramic discs and as specialist motorsport fitments alongside Tarox callipers. The range launched with 23 fitments, covering outside diameters from 283mm to 420mm and featuring a wide range of thicknesses from 26mm to 40mm. The range starts at £2210+VAT per disc.
