Vredestein and Carlsson extend cooperation

Vredestein and German tuner Carlsson have agree to extend their cooperation agreement for a further three years following the signing of a new contract on 3 December. This partnership is part of Vredestein’s Premium Styling concept and has already resulted in unique Mercedes-Benz models styled by Carlsson. In the coming years, the cooperation will move up a gear, focusing on the development of models such as the new Mercedes-Benz S, E and ML. Vredestein is the strategic tyre partner supplying its range of premium designer tyres to Carlsson within the partnership.

NHS can save money by checking tyre pressures, states Michelin

After visiting South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to test the pressures and condition of employees’ tyres, Michelin calculated the NHS Trust could save almost £22,000 per year if all employee vehicles in the Trust’s 2,000-strong fleet were driven with tyres at the correct pressure.

Bridgestone sells Sameer share, new technical partnership likely

Bridgestone Corporation has sold its 14.9 per cent share in Sameer Africa Ltd, and the Kenyan tyre maker says it has found a potential strategic investor to replace the Japanese firm as a source of technical assistance and support. To facilitate this new arrangement, the approximately 41.5 million shares Bridgestone held in Sameer Africa have been transferred to Sameer Investments Limited.

Kraiburg reports market share growth in Turkey

Five years into a partnership with Tatko Otomotiv Group, rubber and retreading material supplier Kraiburg is celebrating increased market share in Turkey. According to the company, the Turkish market for HGV retreads is of paritcular strategic importance to Kraiburg Austria, with an annual volume of around 9,000 tonnes of material.

The Agency was recipient of the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award during last week’s awards ceremony, an event set up to celebrate the activities and achievements of a wide range of businesses and organisations in encouraging better tyre care and maintenance.

Pirelli signs research MoU with Russian partners

Russian government-owned oil company Rosneft and state corporation Rostec (Russian Technologies) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Pirelli. Under the MoU, signed on 26 November, the three parties agree to the joint research and development of materials to be used in tyre manufacture.

Michelin manager named HR Professional of the Year

ATS Euromaster Human Resources manager, Nicola Burrows has been named HR Professional of the Year at the Personnel Today Awards. Burrows was recognised for her ability to forge strong relationships with employees and implement a strategic plan that saw the company’s bottom line increase. She was selected ahead of senior HR nominees from Marks & Spencer, Trafford Council, Gamma and Merlin, with judges impressed with her “fluff-free” approach to business.

Apollo Tyres appoints London-based global media agency

Mindshare has been appointed Apollo Tyres’ global media agency, replacing ZenithOptimedia, who serviced Apollo in India since mid-2012. The tyre maker describes its business with Mindshare as a “multi-million dollar” account and says it appointed the company following a multi-agency pitch presentation at the Apollo Tyres global marketing office in London. Apollo says Mindshare was selected due to its global reach, along with its financial and organisational fit with Apollo Tyres.

Cooper the ‘official tyre’ of Canadian hockey

Cooper Tire will be the official tyre of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) for the 2013-2014 season. The newly-announced partnership will see the tyre maker gain a “strong presence” at several CHL national series; Cooper says the partnership supports the company’s brand expansion into the Canadian market and is a “logical extension” of its Canadian market focus.

Survey points to tyre apathy amongst younger drivers

The results of a survey commissioned by TyreSafe and telematics-linked insurer ingenie highlights the risk younger drivers place themselves at by neglecting regular tyre maintenance. Over a third of the 1,000 respondents, all aged between 18 and 25 years old, said they’d never checked their tyres’ tread depth, while two out of three hadn’t checked their tread within the last month, the maximum recommended period between checks.

Goodyear an official tyre for US ski, snowboard association

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) has selected Goodyear as ‘official tyre’ of the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing. Gary Melliere, general manager of Sponsorships at Goodyear North America, describes the partnership between the teams and the tyre maker as “a natural fit for the Goodyear brand and its superior performing tyres”.

Maxxis: brand and distribution better than ever

It has been a good year for Maxxis’ parent company Cheng Shin Rubber, according Maxxis International UK managing director Derek McMartin. The fact that headcount is up more than 10 per cent to 30,000 and that the company has announced in the last year or so that it is investing in three new factories (Xiamen, Chongqing and Taiwan). The Taiwan project is said to have achieved phase one output of 27,000 tyres a day already, which will rise to 100,000 tyres a day a full capacity (phase four).

Bridgestone to launch motocross tyre following association partnership

Bridgestone will launch a new motocross tyre and announce an exclusive partnership with a historic motocross organisation at the International Dirt Bike Show. The world’s biggest tyre manufacturer says the sport represents one of the fastest growing motorbike tyre sectors in the UK, as well as offering significant brand awareness and sales opportunities. An official announcement is being made at the hugely popular annual show at Stoneleigh Park, which takes place between 31 October and 3 November.
