Jaguar Classic partners with Pirelli to supply new P Zero XJ220 tyre package

Jaguar Classic has announced a partnership with Pirelli to develop a new tyre package for the classic XJ220 sports car. Featuring a bespoke P Zero design the tyre maintains the look of the original P Zero, but is updated using Pirelli’s latest compounds and technologies. This includes internal damping within the tyre to even out shocks, lessen noise, and provide more precise control while increasing comfort. Pirelli’s P Zero ultra-high performance range continues to be a part of top level motorsport, like Formula One and GT racing, for which the XJ220 concept was originally developed.

Vipal honours European clients for partnership longevity

Vipal has presented 11 retreaders and distributors with plaques commemorating their history in partnership. The South American manufacturer of tyre repair and retreading products chose to mark decade and half-decade relationships with partners in UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary and Turkey.

Olympic Channel – Bridgestone named first Founding Partner

Bridgestone has become the first Founding Partner of a new digital platform dedicated to the Olympic Movement. The tyre maker signed a collaborative agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) yesterday to confirm its support of the Olympic Channel, a platform that gives fans the opportunity to experience the power of sport and the Olympic Movement all year round. The Olympic Channel will launch worldwide on Sunday 21 August following the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games Rio 2016. Bridgestone has committed to this partnership for a four-year period.

Bridgestone becomes Aston Martin DB11 partner

Bridgestone has been made an official project partner for the Aston Martin DB11, slated to be launched later in 2016. The tyre manufacturer will support Aston Martin with a series of technical developments, durability testing and global media launches, including the use of its European Proving Ground in Aprilia, Italy. Tyres & Accessories first reported Bridgestone and Aston Martin’s partnership from the Geneva Motorshow 2016 in February.

Louzán SL to produce Marangoni Ringtread retread tyres in Spain

Marangoni Retreading Systems has announced a new partnership with Spanish retreading partner, Louzán SL. The Galicia-based company, which was formed in the 1940s, offers a range of services for fleets, including retreading, with ten sales outlets for extensive territorial coverage. Marangoni said the partnership reflects the “major changes” taking place in the retreading industry. While the future of the retread manufacturer’s Rovereto remains uncertain, Marangoni has moved to increase its global partnerships in various markets around the world. The company characterises its latest Spanish partnership as an “expansion” of its activities in the country.

Aston Martin WEC team to race on Dunlop tyres

Aston Martin Racing’s entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) have switched from Michelin to Dunlop tyres for the 2016 season. The team evaluated Dunlop’s motorsport tyres over the winter and, under a new technical partnership, the Dunlop rubber will now be supplied to the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE cars.

Cooper becomes Dubai International Motor Show official tyre sponsor

Cooper Tire will be the official tyre sponsor of this year’s Dubai International Motor Show. Announced during a visit by the vice president and managing director of Cooper Tire, Europe and the Middle East, Jeff Schumaker, the sponsorship will mark the tyre brand’s first move to increase its presence across the Middle East ahead of a series of new product arrivals over the coming months. The manufacturer has a tangential connection to the region through Arsenal Football Club, for whom it is the Official Tyre; Arsenal’s shirt sponsor is Dubai-based airline, Emirates.

Lanxess preparing tyre, rubber business units for partnership

Specialty chemicals manufacturer Lanxess states it has initiated a carve-out process to transfer its rubber business to a legally independent business entity within the Lanxess Group. The plan is for the new entity to include the company’s Tire & Specialty Rubbers (TSR) and High Performance Elastomers (HPE) business units, which together operate 20 production facilities and have some 3,700 employees.

Sumitomo Rubber confirms Goodyear partnership dissolution talks – but cautions against speculation

Responding to reports from a number of media outlets regarding the dissolution of the 16-year old global alliance between Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) and Goodyear Tire & Rubber, SRI stated today that these are “purely speculative in nature.” The company doesn’t refute the reports’ veracity – SRI admits that “it is true that SRI and Goodyear are currently engaged in discussions concerning the possible dissolution of our alliance agreement and our joint ventures” – however it wants to make it clear that neither it nor Goodyear have issued an official announcement on the matter. Nikkei Asian Review, which published the news yesterday, says an announcement may be made “as early as this week.”

Blackcircles and Dmack agree exclusive UK supply partnership

British tyre brand Dmack has agreed an exclusive UK supply partnership with Blackcircles.com for its passenger car tyre range. The online tyre retailer will offer Dmack PCR products to its customers and retail partners from January 2015. The deal has been in the making for a few months; having participated in 49 World Rally Championship events since it burst onto the international stage, winning accreditation in September 2010, Dmack has developed passenger car and commercial vehicle ranges for global markets. Manufactured by Shandong Yongtai, with British moulds and R&D, managing director Dick Cormack told Tyres & Accessories in April that the brand would compete as an aspirational mid-range brand, and would seek “the right partners” to achieve this. In Blackcircles – themselves in a period of business expansion – Dmack’s management believes they have found the right partner in their home territory.
