Titan International, Inc. has approved a quarterly cash dividend of $.005 (one half cent) per common share for the second quarter of 2010. The cash dividend is payable 15 July 2010, to stockholders of record on 30 June 2010.
Turkish company Maylas/Yaşar Oto Lastik Sanayi Ve Ticaret Ltd. Şti was recently named "Dealer of the Year" by Italy-based tyre manufacturer MAI OTR Tyres. The award was presented during the Reifen exhibition at Essen by Federico Fiorini, general manager of MAI International.

Kirkby Tyres and Indian manufacturer BKT have announced that they are joining forces at October’s Brityrex International exhibition to promote their new UK distribution agreement. In addition show organisers ECI International have announced that the Tyre Industry Federation (TIF) has confirmed it will be present with a member’s lounge and business briefings during the show, which will run on 5, 6 and 7 October.
Chinese Industrial and OTR track and tyre maker Sihong Benteng Rubber Products Co, Ltd is reporting that it now has the capacity to produce 5000 off-the-road tyres/year. Situated five hours from Shanghai airport and 2 hours from Nanjing airport by car, the company reports that it is “mainly engaged in manufacturing various specifications [of] engineering tracks, agricultural tracks, OTR and bicycle tyres.”
According to company literature, Sihong Benteng holds a triple A (AAA) credit rating and is amongst the top 10 ratepayers in the Sihong Economic & Technological Development Zone of Jiangsu Province. Here, the company reports it manufactures 40,000 engineering, 15,000 agricultural tracks 5000 OTR tyres, and 3 million bicycle tyres a year in the firms 60,000 square metre production plant. These are subsequently sold under the company’s Threestone brand name.
Techking Tyres has established US headquarters with a new base in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At the same time, Tire Review reports that the company has hired a pair of US tyre industry veterans to lead its North American efforts. Larry Williams, most recently president of China Manufacturers Alliance, has been hired as Techking’s North American chief. A new Hyster H25.00XM-12 forklift truck fitted with an IMT TH3536 tyre handling attachment will be showcased on Elite Truck Bodies’ stand at Reifen 2010 in Essen. The idea, according to the company, is to demonstrate the most efficient way of handling and changing large tyres on vehicles operating in open-cast mining and construction applications.
Goodyear Dunlop will exhibit its off the road range to the industry at Vertikal Days and Hillhead during June for the first time in over three years. Vertikal Days on 16 and 17 June will provide the platform to highlight the new Dunlop SP ER50 tyre to the crane industry. Meanwhile Hillhead will provide the perfect arena to introduce the industry to the full Goodyear Dunlop OTR tyre range, states the company.
Next time you’re sitting in the dentist’s chair getting your teeth checked, you may spare a moment to consider how many degrees of separation stand between yourself and the tyre industry. It may be fewer than you think. American firm Tekscan Inc, which developed its TireScan system in conjunction with Goodyear, admits the basic technology behind the system was originally created for use in dentistry. “However, it was recognised that the principle concept could be adapted for numerous other applications, the tyre industry being just one of them," explained the company's international sales manager, Jason Marcouillier.
In April Translogik Ltd signed a distribution agreement with RFID Chile. According to the company, the agreement combines Translogik OTR TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) technology and RFID Chile's “mining application expertise” to provide a real-time OTR tyre temperature and pressure management solution to the South American mining industry. The system was launched at the 2010 EXPOMIN in Santiago, Chile. Chile is the world's largest producer of copper.
Translogik reported “enormous interest” from some of the world's largest mining operations from across South America and Komatsu 830E field trials of the new system, with a large Chilean mining company, were scheduled to begin on 10 May. At this point a team of engineers from Translogik and RFID Chile planned to fit three OTR TPMS systems to Komatsu 830E dumper trucks fitted with 57 inch tyres.
MAI Group, the Italian manufacturer of all-steel, radial OTR tyres for the mining and construction industries, has announced the appointment of the Dynamic Tire Corp. (DTC) as the group’s distributor for Canada. Under the deal, Dynamic Tire will handle MAI's complete Maxam tyre range of OTR and high speed crane products.
In welcoming DTC as the company's latest distributor, MAI Group CEO Ian Thomas said he was "delighted" to have negotiated the deal with DTC founders Peter Koszo and Bob Sherkin and he believes that their local market knowledge will prove invaluable in establishing and strengthening the Maxam brand in Canada.
Titan Wheel Corporation has introduced its Accelerated Change Technology (ACT) wheel, a design it says allows a service technician to change or rotate the rear tyres on a mine haul truck in a fraction of the time. The system, the manufacturer adds, also enhances safety, reduces service technician fatigue and increases profitability by reducing tyre maintenance downtime.
Tire Review reports Titan International emerged as the winner among multiple parties seeking to buy some or all of the remaining assets of the defunct Denman Tire. Yesterday, the US Bankruptcy Court approved Titan’s $4.4 million last minute bid to acquire all of Denman’s brands, patents, drawings, molds, recipes and other intellectual property. The assets were auctioned off by the court as part of Denman’s Chapter 7 liquidation.
Earthmover Tyres is to introduce its Tire Monitor System (TMS) to the UK at this year’s Hillhead show (22 – 24 June). Designed and supplied by AM Bromley, a company formed in 1997 by engineers who worked on the early concepts of tyre pressure monitoring systems, this wireless tyre pressure gauge and monitoring system has been developed for large off-road vehicles. TMS provides tyre pressure and temperature data to allow tyres to be maintained for optimal performance, reducing downtime and increasing productivity. The show will be held at Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, in Derbyshire. According to the organisers, it is recognized as “the world’s largest.”
Two years after the company launched its flagship range of off-road orientated retreads, Devon-based Bandvulc is highlighting the recent rapid growth of its range of “BIG” tyres in a bid replicate the success of its larger than life products.
According to the company, Bandvulc’s BIG range is manufactured in all of the key sizes for this specialist market. The range features extra deep tread, sidewall protection and a compound especially suited to reduce penetrations and punctures. All this, say company representatives, combines to provide a robust, long lasting product in what is normally a high usage environment. The result? Despite difficult recessionary times, sales of the BIG range continued to expand in 2009 achieving an increase of over 50 per cent.
Toyo Tire USA said it would again increase prices on its Toyo brand passenger, light truck/SUV, medium truck and OTR tyres, says Tire Review. The 1 June increase will be up to 8 per cent, with in-line adjustments. This is Toyo’s second price hike of the year, having taken increases of up to 7 per cent bump on medium truck tyres and up to 6 per cent on consumer tyres earlier this year.
