Techking has introduced its first tubeless mining tyre. The Chinese manufacturer says it has released a size 12.00R24 mining pattern; advantages it reports over comparable tube-type tyres are higher air retention from the high-grade butyl liner compared with that of an inner tube, less heat generation and better heat release, a lighter overall weight and more convenient mounting and dismounting.
Titan International has named Paul Hawkins the new head of its subsidiary Titan Mining Services. Hawkins, who previously served in OTR sales and production at Titan Tire Corporation, will report directly to Titan International CEO Maurice Taylor in his new role. “Paul understands the complete range of products and what needs to be done as Titan expands into this new venture,” commented Taylor upon announcing Hawkins’ appointment.
Sailun reports that it has been enjoying a period of strong establishment across Europe as well as a successful time in Essen this June, when the Chinese brand made its Reifen show debut.
Recently appointed Bridgestone CEO Masaaki Tsuya has spoken candidly about the tyre maker’s future against a backdrop of increasing competition from Asian manufacturers and global economic challenges. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Tsuya stated that Bridgestone must focus on high-end and more specialised products in order to survive. "We will lose if we make similar products using similar production methods (to our competitors)," he said.
Goodyear will return to the biennial quarrying, recycling and heavy construction industries’ event, the Hillhead Show. The company will show its new off the road tyre user programme, named “Goodyear at your Service”. Available to all off-road plant operators in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, the internet-based programme aims to increase customers’ access to expert support when purchasing and operating Goodyear tyres. The show takes place on 19-21 June at Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, Buxton. Around 460 exhibitors will showcase their latest news and products.
Earlier this month, Goodyear Tire & Rubber announced it now holds 100 per cent ownership of its Nippon Giant Tire (NGT) subsidiary in Tatsuno, Japan. The tyre maker has been the majority shareholder in NGT since 1985 and purchased the shares owned by its joint venture partners, Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation, for an undisclosed amount. Goodyear now plans to invest US$250 million to upgrade and expand NGT’s tyre manufacturing facility in order to increase its global supply of OTR tyres for key customers.
At this year’s Reifen show in Germany, Heuver Tyrewholesale revealed it will soon begin selling Aeolus passenger car tyres in the European markets where it currently supplies the Chinese manufacturer’s OTR and truck tyres. According to Heuver marketing manager Maureen Voortman, the Aeolus passenger range consists of three different product lines and will be launched in Europe in late 2012. “They’re good tyres,” she commented to Tyres & Accessories during Reifen 2012. “You have ‘A’ brands, and now you have Aeolus.”
Techking Tires Ltd has opened its first OTR Techking Service Centre in Canada. The China-based tyre manufacturer has chosen Pneus Lanoraie Inc as its partner in the area and will now offer what it calls a “one-stop repairing and retreading service” to its Canadian customers in Quebec Province and neighbouring territories.
Transense Technologies plc reports that its Translogik division’s iTrack tyre temperature TPMS for OTR vehicles has successfully completed field trials and is now an approved product for deployment in the southern African region. According to the company, the Customer is initially focussing on fitting the iTrack system to its haul trucks while also considering fitment to its ancillary mine vehicles, more than doubling the potential number of vehicles requiring the system.
Kings Road Tyres claims to have the largest and most comprehensive range of tyres for commercial applications in the UK, and now the wholesaler is making information on all of its commercial products available in a single brochure, with the publication of Kings Road Tyres’ Commercial Range Guide 2012. The new Guide is the first time KRT has combined its truck and bus, agricultural, industrial and construction, otr and high speed crane, pneumatic industrial and tubes and flaps ranges in a single publication. Nordisk Dæk Import A/S (NDI) has appointed New Zealand’s TRS Tyre and Wheel Ltd as its AP+ Dual Wheels distributor in the region. The decision took effect in May 2012. According to NDI, the company’s AP+ Dual Wheels are a “resounding success” in many other countries worldwide as well as well as the home Danish market.
Since 2003, Continental has held an increasing share in the Malaysian tyre business it ran together with Sime Darby Allied Products Berhad. Now the German company has acquired the outstanding 30 per cent share in Continental Sime Tyre Sdn. Bhd still owned by its joint venture partner, and the operation has become a fully-owned subsidiary of Continental Corporation. To mark the business’s 100 per cent Conti-owned status, it has been renamed Continental Tyre Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Upon reporting the transaction, Conti comments that the share acquisition underlines the “long term interest and the commitment of Continental to Asean and to the Asia Pacific Region.”
For the first quarter of 2012, Bridgestone has reported net sales of ¥726.2 billion (£5.6 billion), a three per cent increase over the first quarter of fiscal 2011. The company’s operating income amounted to ¥63.0 billon (£490.0 million), an increase of 13 per cent, ordinary income was ¥61.7 billion (£479.9 million), an increase of ten per cent, and net income was ¥42.2 billion (£328.2 million), a year-on-year increase of 35 per cent.
Bridgestone Europe presented a strong line-up of off-the-road tyres at INTERMAT 2012, according to the company. The international fair for construction industries, which took place in Paris from 16 – 21 April saw the Japanese manufacturer display the world’s largest tyre and some of its leading OTR industrial radial tyres.
Products on show included: The VJT (V-Steel J-Traction); VRF (V-Steel Rock Fast); VLTS (V-Steel L-Traction S); VSW (V-Steel Snow Wedge); VCHR (V-Steel Container Handler Rib) and VSDT (V-Steel Super Deep Traction).
Goodway Integrated Industries Berhad – or GIIB, as the company’s new corporate branding would have it – will exhibit its retreading solutions at Reifen 2012 (Hall 4, Stand 110). Amongst the product line-up of Supercool Beluga tread liners, GIIB Rübtek rubber compounds and Speedflex cushion gum, the company will be talking to visitors about its new GIIB Supercool Retread Franchise business solution model and its software-enhanced GIIB Management Solutions for Tyres. The company says the GIIB name unifies the brands and presents customers with a more dynamic message.
