Westlake introduces PCR fitments, Vacu-Lug deal

The Al Dobowi Group’s Eskay Tyres distributes the Westlake brand in several European markets, including the UK, and the company used the occasion of Brityrex to endorse personally the recently sealed distribution agreement with Vacu-Lug, the Lincolnshire-based retread tyre manufacturer. Surender Singh Kandhari, chairman of Al Dobowi Group and Tim Hercock, managing director of Vacu-Lug, met with their respective teams over lunch during the show. The deal is intended to expand the sales of the Westlake truck tyre brand throughout UK and Ireland (see Fleet Business for more details). At the show itself, Eskay staff introduced the latest Westlake passenger car fitments for the H and V rated RP26 and the high performance SA07.

Treadsetters increasing international profile at Brityrex

Treadsetters (part of the TIA Group) says it took part in this year's Brityrex to promote the company's three leading brands – Torque, Hifly and TIA Wheels – further, having supported the event for many years. The Telford based tyre wholesaler said Brityrex 2012 joins a number of other international shows at which it has presented a high corporate profile this year, including Essen, Russia, Tyrexpo Africa and events in Tanzania and Panama. The company says the events are part of the group’s growing image “as a global player in tyres and wheels”.

Seamless development: Kings Road Tyres on brand strategy

You might have expected Kings Road Tyres’ 40th year to have been marked by transition following the Group’s management buyout by Adrian Bader (managing director), Mark Cooper (commercial director) and Simon Lister (financial director). However, with the directors’ vast experience within the company, and the strong emphasis within its wholesale businesses on long-standing partnerships with both tyre brand suppliers and customers, the company told Tyrepress.com that the achievement of the last 12 months has been that “to the outside world, the business hasn’t changed with the ownership”; though strategic and business developments have continued under the new ownership team, some of what has happened was detailed in pre-existing plans and the focus has been on “making it seamless”.

Double Coin launching 3 new at SEMA 2012

Double Coin Tires and its US distribution partner China Manufacturers Alliance, LLC (CMA) reports that it the companies are unveiling three new products at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, CMA will display one of the company’s giant off-the-road mining tyres, the Double Coin REM-11 40.00R57 E4. The 40.00R57 stands almost 12 feet tall and is the latest addition to a range of Double Coin giant OTR radials that includes other 57’, 51’, and 49-inch’ rim diameters.

Kohaupt takes on emerging market role at Goodyear Dunlop

Rupert Kohaupt, formerly Goodyear Dunlop’s director of commercial vehicle tyres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, has been appointed the tyre maker’s commercial vehicle tyre sales director for emerging markets. In his new Brussels-based role, the 30-year company veteran will continue the expansion of the growing emerging markets.

Fullrun shows latest products

Qingdao Fullrun Tyre Corp. claims to be China’s largest tyre exporter, and has set itself the goal ten million tyres per annum by 2015. Last year the company’s turnover increased almost 43 per cent to US$400 million. Its main brands are Fullrun, AnTyre, Fullway, AutoGrip, AderenZa and TurnPike, and these are sold in more than 100 countries.

Double Coin promotes winter, low profile products at CITExpo

This year was the first time Double Coin Holdings was present at CITExpo as an exhibitor, and vice-president Liu Xue Jun told Tyres & Accessories that the company had met with a good mix of end users, dealers and wholesalers during the show. The Shanghai exhibition was used as an opportunity to meet new customers and to show off the company’s new range Double Coin brand winter truck tyres. “Winter tyres are a new product for us,” commented Mr. Liu. “We’re going to promote these, along with our new 295/60 low profile tyres.”

New Yokohama products debut at MINExpo

Along with several other tyre majors, Yokohama Rubber has debuted new products at the MINExpo International 2012 show, which ends today in the US. The Japanese manufacturer is displaying a total of 17 OTR radials at the show, including the new “RL45” and “RL51”, along with a new sizes in its “RB42” range for rigid dump trucks.

Bridgestone Mining Solutions unveiled at MINExpo

Alongside its B-TAG launch, Bridgestone Commercial Solutions, a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, introduced a suite of products and services it says are designed to increase a mine's productivity and reduce costs, while maintaining a constant regard for safety. Bridgestone Mining Solutions (BMS) thus combines tyre sales and repair with tyre management and retreading to address every phase of a mine's tyre-related needs.

MINExpo launch for Michelin XDR2

Visitors to the MINExpo show in the US were given a chance to get up close with Michelin’s newest earthmover line, the XDR2. This range, which replaces the XDR, is intended for the market’s largest rigid dump trucks and is claimed to improve safety while enabling users to improve their productivity and optimise environmental performance.

Second investment in Bridgestone's Bloomington plant announced

An additional US$27.3 million will be directed towards expanding Bridgestone’s OTR tyre plant in Bloomington, US. The investment, announced during a press conference at the MINExpo show in Las Vegas, will primarily go towards new machinery for the production of giant loader tyres (GLT). The Bloomington plant currently specialises in producing cross-ply GLT, and therefore Bridgestone considers it the “ideal location” to increase production of these tyres. The expansion will create approximately 47 new jobs.

Bridgestone begins rollout of OTR tyre monitoring system

During the US-based MINExpo International trade show, Bridgestone Corporation unveiled its market-ready tyre pressure monitoring system for OTR radials. Marketed under the B-TAG (Bridgestone Intelligent Tag) name, this new system functions by utilising Bridgestone-developed sensors to measure and report both tyre pressure and temperature in real time.

Goodyear launches 63-inch OTR fitments

It’s 13 feet in diameter, weighs almost five and a half tonnes and can be seen in Las Vegas….we are of course talking about the latest and largest member of Goodyear’s OTR tyre family, its 63-inch mining tyre. This giant has made its debut at this week’s MINExpo 2012 show in the US, and will be on display at Goodyear’s stand there until 26 September.

Hirst appointed TGI’s VP of program sales

Tire Group International has hired Bill Hirst its new vice-president of program sales for its domestic division. Hirst, who has been in the tyre industry for more than 33 years, has a background in the passenger, light truck, truck, industrial, agricultural and OTR tyre segments. He most recently served as executive vice president of sales at TBC Corp. Prior to that position, Hirst was vice-president of sales and marketing for Treadways Corp.

Kirkby Tyres promotes “premium tyre” offering to the truck market

Kirkby Tyres’ philosophy of stocking large quantities of high quality on and off-road highway tyres and wheels to cover every possible application for both OE and replacement markets has reportedly earned the company increased business. The exclusive importer of Double Coin tyres, Kirkby reports that it has sold over a million tyres to the replacement market to date.
