Maxam Tire International has launched a new all steel radial OTR tyre. The Maxam MS405, an E4 tyre, is aimed specifically at the ADT (Articulated Dump Truck) market and the new MS405 design incorporates an extra deep E4 tread depth, which, combined with the tyre's wide flat profile and reinforced side walls, offers excellent stability, flotation and traction.

The presence of Dutch off-road tyre company Magna Tyres Group at April’s Bauma 2013 show in Germany was appropriate, given the attention Magna has paid the country – and Europe as a region – over the last six months or so. Yokohama Tire Corporation’s (YTC) new Yokohama Tire Mexico (YTMX) subsidiary officially began importing consumer, commercial and off-the-road (OTR) tyres in Mexico on 1 May. Incorporated in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico, according to the company, YTMX is squarely positioned to give YTC long-term strategic advantages. With this in mind YTMX’s president, Gary Nash, answered questions about what those advantages are, the long-term vision for the company and the positive impact dealers can expect.

According to sources at Bridgestone Commercial Solutions, 78 per cent of all off-highway tyres and wheels are in the 25 to 29-inch size range. An important and difficult process in the servicing of these large-sized wheels is the removal and installation of the O-ring.

Continental’s increased specialisation in the commercial tyre segment was discussed at the launch of its latest “third generation” coach and bus tyres, but this reorganisation, begun from 1 January, has wider implications for applications beyond TBR products. The managing director of Continental Commercial Specialty Tires (CST), Dr Michael Maertens explained that the manufacturer’s new business strategy, indicated by the restructuring of this business unit, contains initiatives for future growth with particular focus on industrial and off the road material handling, underground mining and tyres for a specialised application you may not have expected to have swift growth potential.

Goodyear has released details of two new speciality tyre products, the EV-4C, and the RT-5D – designed to be used in port and industrial applications respectively – at Bauma (covered earlier in this issue). The EV-4C is designed to be used mainly on straddle carriers. Featuring an innovative tread to reduce lug-induced vibration the tyre increases operator comfort and promotes even tread wear. It has a nylon sidewall reinforcement to reduce the risk of impact damage, while the breakers and carcass are stronger for greater stability and productivity. The tubeless tyre is available in sizes 16.00R25 and 480/95R25.
Turkish tyre manufacturer Petlas has a new website. The customer focused site allows dealers and drivers to search products by size, segment or product name, with increased product information and more logical organisation. Oğuz Ay, director of international marketing and sales at Petlas said the company had “spent the past year listening and talking to the users of www.petlas.com”, and that the new site tries to make users’ experience “more straightforward and user friendly” as a result.
Two new members have been selected to join the board of directors of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, reports Tire Review. Joining the board as of today are Mel Mitchell, vice president of manufacturing for Colony Tire Corp., and Ken Samborsky, OTR plant operation coordinator for Kal Tire. "Mel and Ken are two great additions to our board and further round out a 16-strong board that fully represents the retread and repair industries," said TRIB President Brian Hayes. "I look forward to working with them on the TRIB board. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank departing members Bob Majewski and Garry Heintschel for their dedication and service to the TRIB board over the years".
A stone laying ceremony marking the start of work on Bridgestone’s new OTR tyre factory in Thailand was held on 29 April. Attendees included representatives from the industrial estate where the site is located and from the company that will build the plant. Bridgestone Group management present at the ceremony included CEO Masaaki Tsuya and Shigeru Kaneko, managing director of Bridgestone Specialty Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the company that will operate the new plant. In accord with tradition, the ceremony included prayers for the success of the plant's building, after which the attendees put the foundation stone in place, giving their blessings for the company's ongoing prosperity.
