German OTR tyre specialist Rösler has launched its Intread TPMS system. The system is the first OTR TPMS system with the ability to measure the tread depth and the belt temperature. Rösler exhibited the system at Reifen 2014.
Goodyear off-the-road tyres have been fitted to 28 Kalmar ESH-250 Shuttle Carrier vehicles at London Gateway. The fitment took place under a new three-year contract between Goodyear and DP World London Gateway to provide Goodyear OTR EV-3+, EV-4A and EV-4C industrial radial tyres.
Arguments about greater steering precision aside, the chief reason for fitting low profile tyres to a car is to enhance its appearance. But a narrow sidewall is favoured by some in the off-road sector for entirely difference reasons. Titan International developed its first low profile – it calls it low sidewall, or LSW – off-road tyre in the 1990s and initially introduced the technology on the Caterpillar-brand skid steer tyre in 1999. The company believes that when the benefits of LSW are more widely known the technology will gain widespread acceptance, and to spread word about LSW a new, dedicated website has been rolled out.

OTR brand, Maxam Tire showed 24 tyres from the company’s comprehensive range of radial OTR, construction and industrial tyres on a large stand in Hall 6. The MS401 dump truck tyre proved particularly hard to miss; the tyre has an overall diameter of 2.7 metres and weighs 1,497kgs.
Techking made its fifth appearance at Reifen in 2014, with a stand in Hall 3 showing its OTR, TBR and PCR tyre lines. In the OTR segment Techking displayed its Generation II Proadt, Etcrane and Snowking products. The company says that longevity has been the key improvement for its Generation II products; the tyres can now reach 90 per cent of that of a tier one brand tyre, Techking claims, adding up ultimately to a lower total cost of ownership.
Finnish tyre wholesaler Ham-Re Oy has been appointed exclusive national distributor for Magna Tyres. While Magna Tyres has been present in the Finnish market for several years, it sees its new agreement with Ham-Re Oy as an important step for further OTR tyre segment market penetration in Finland. It says it “has found the ideal partner in Ham-Re Oy” to further expand its OTR tyre activities in Finland. “Both companies contribute a valuable and long-term experience of international tyre sales and distribution to their cooperation,” shared Magna Tyres in a statement.
Mitas has announced plans to invest the expansion of its Ruma, Serbia factory. In the first part of the planned upgrades, Mitas will build a new logistics centre. According to the company, this will help satisfy the rising demand from South European, East European and Middle East markets. In practice this means Mitas will soon also prepare an upgrade of Ruma’s production capacities for radial agricultural and forestry tyres. Mitas’ Serbian factory now produces both bias and radial agricultural tyres. The investment will be completed in mid-2016, at which point the Ruma plant will have a capacity of 35,000 tonnes a year.
Czech company Propneu S.r.o. was awarded the Maxam European dealer trophy for 2013 at the recent Expo Mokra exhibition, held near Brno in the Czech Republic.
Established in 2003, Propneu has been the exclusive distributor for Maxam tyres in the Czech and Slovak republics for six years and they have built up their business to become the market leaders in the supply and servicing of OTR tyres and tyres for construction equipment in this area.
OTR and industrial tyre specialist Magna Tyres Group reports that its debut as a TOC Europe exhibitor was a positive experience for the Netherlands-based company. Magna Tyres was present at the port handling trade show, held at ExCel London between 24 and 26 June, and shares that the amount of visitors exceeded its expectations. The company decided to exhibit at TOC Europe 2014 in order to further expand awareness of the Magna brand in the port handling segment and to reach a specific audience of port authorities, terminal operators and port equipment fleet managers. Based on the success enjoyed at this year’s show, Magna Tyres says it has already signed up for TOC Europe 2015 in Rotterdam.
OTR retreading specialist Rösler Tyre Innovators was present at Reifen 2014 with two particular innovations; the German company displayed its ‘Intread Tyre Sensor’ and ‘Griptech’ at the show.
It appears declining demand has prompted Bridgestone to postpone the start of production at its OTR tyre factory in Thailand. Bloomberg reports comments to this effect made by chief executive officer Masaaki Tsuya on 15 June. Tsuya said a new production start date will be announced when demand for mining tyres returns – adding that this may take “some time”.
Vacu-Lug is supplying Kress Slab Carriers, which make up the heavy end of its customer’s 70-strong vehicle fleet operating from a steel works in Wales. Operating around the clock, the Kress Carriers transport steel slabs within the steel production plant which, together with its sister plant, elsewhere in Wales is capable of producing upwards of 5 million tonnes of steel slab per annum.
According to the company, the Kress Carriers are fitted with front, 37.25-35 and rear, 4000 x57 Yokohama tyres, each of which is supported by a ‘cradle-to-grave’ inspection and reporting process carried out by Vacu-Lug.
Titan International has announced that its subsidiary, Titan Tire Reclamation Corp., (TTRC) is leasing ten acres (4 hectares) of land from Suncor Energy, north of Fort McMurray, Canada for ten years to operate a pyrolysis system developed by Green Carbon, a company controlled by Fred Taylor, brother of Titan International chairman and CEO Maurice Taylor. Titan Tire Reclamation has already engaged in negotiations with various companies operating in Canada’s oil sands regarding the disposal of OTR tyres and conveyor belting.
Michelin has launched its X-Straddle 2, which has been designed to make marine terminal operations “safer while increasing productivity by more than 30 per cent”. According to Michelin X-Straddle 2 delivers all the benefits of radial technology to improve marine terminal operations.
