BKT has announced that it is investing in attending the triennial Bauma OTR equipment show in Munich from 11-17 April 2016. BKT reports it will welcome visitors by means of a “strong and appealing advertising presence conveying BKT’s vision”. As in the last edition of Bauma in 2013, BKT will exclusively customize all rickshaws that are at the trade show visitors’ disposal for moving around in the large open-air exhibition area. And it will be difficult to miss BKT’s new giant tyre, Earthmax SR 45 Plus, with its height of 2.70 metres.
Bridgestone Americas shares that it has been designated a Partner-level supplier for 2015 in the John Deere & Company Achieving Excellence Program. Partner-level status is Deere & Company’s highest supplier rating, and Bridgestone states for this selection recognises its dedication to providing products and service of outstanding quality, as well as its commitment to continuous improvement. Bridgestone says its employees accepted the recognition at a ceremony held in the USA recently.
Kings Road Tyres (KRT), one of the longest-established UK tyre wholesalers, is restructuring its distribution network and has committed to a multi-million pound investment and modernisation programme to achieve this.
However, this also means the eight existing KRT warehouses in the UK and Ireland will be progressively closed to coincide with the opening of new premises. This is expected to take place between the end of March and the end of August 2016.

Titan International has filed petitions with the US International Trade Commission and the US Department of Commerce for relief from imports of off-road tyres from China, India, and Sri Lanka. The petitions were filed jointly with the United Steelworkers union and allege that imports from China and India are being dumped in the US market in violation of international trade agreements and that imports from all three countries are benefitting from improper government subsidies.
Following on from its recent appointment of Stephan van Leeuwen as sales manager for the UK, Ireland and Italy, Magna Tyres has named another Stefan – this time Stefan Huber – its new regional sales manager for the south of Germany. From January 2016 he will work alongside Arno van der Linden, who has been employed as a Magna sales manager for Germany since spring 2015.
Magna Tyres Group has named Stephan van Leeuwen its new sales manager for the UK, Ireland and Italy regions. Van Leeuwen joins the company with over 25 years of experience as a sales manager within the tyre industry’s off-road and passenger car tyre segments.
The northwest region of India’s Gujarat state is home to large areas of desert where you may encounter thorny shrubs, packs of wild animals – and a state-of-the-art US$500 million tyre factory. On a 312 acre site, Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has erected one of the largest off-road tyre plants in the world, a facility capable of producing 325 tonnes of tyres per day. Citing “weak market conditions that are not expected to improve during 2016,” Titan International has given word of layoffs that will take place at its Bryan plant in the US state of Ohio. The layoffs will begin on 8 February 2016 and affect at least 130 employees. The tyre maker anticipates these layoffs will be temporary and last a minimum of six months, however some may become permanent should market conditions fail improve.
Every year, Indian off-road tyre specialist Balkrishna Industries Ltd. invests three to four per cent of its turnover into research and development, and through this focus the company is able to bring 60 to 80 new types of tyre to market annually. The reported average development time for these tyres is six to eight weeks.
The Sailun Jinyu Group has informed the Shanghai Stock Exchange about plans for its wholly-owned Vietnamese subsidiary, Sailun (Vietnam) Co., Ltd, to invest up to US$200 million in all-steel belted tyre and off-highway tyre production. At a meeting held on 8 December, the Sailun Jinyu Board of Directors unanimously approved the project.
After years of offering Solid Service to its customers in Australia, Trelleborg Wheel Systems is poised to rebrand its service presence there. The national industrial, forklift and OTR tyre business, which Trelleborg acquired in 2007, will soon be brought in line with Trelleborg’s other tyre service setups around the world and operate under the Interfit name.
Kal Tire reports that its Mining Tire Group has opened a new off-the-road (OTR) tyre retread and repair facility in Antofagasta, Chile.
Maxam has announced its strategic intent to grow global sales and market shares following completion of an intensive review of its operations. One result of this review has been the move of the operational support team from Luxembourg to Birmingham, where it will link up with the Sailun Jinyu European team, and stand in very close proximity to the nearby Sailun European Research and Development facility. In order to achieve its overall objective, the OTR tyre manufacturer has also planned number of initiatives.
