Titan International has commented on the final results of the US Department of Commerce’s (DOC) review of imported OTR tyres from China in 2014 and 2015, which show the Chinese government increased the level of subsidies it gave tyre makers, enabling their products to continue selling in the US market at what the tyre maker calls a less than fair value.
On 13 April TP Industrial Holding – a company controlled by CNRC (the tyre division of ChemChina) – confirmed that agreements have been signed with CNRC, Aeolus and High Grade (HK) Investment Management Limited for the full integration of its controlled Industrial activities with the other assets of the sector belonging to CNRC, including Aeolus and Guilin Beili. The formal finalization of this integration is expected by the end of the year, subject to the approval by the relevant authorities, with the contribution into Aeolus of the 52 per cent stake held in Prometeon Tyre Group (formerly Pirelli Industrial).
Bruce Besancon has joined Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) as the company’s senior director of OTR sales. In his new role, Besancon reports to Jeff Barna, the US Yokohama Rubber operation’s chief operating officer, and will be responsible for OTR sales. He takes over from long-time OTR sales director Tim Easter, who is returning to the field to work more closely with customers.
Belshina JSC has taken delivery of two hydraulic presses and six moulds for the manufacture of 57-inch and 63-inch all-steel radial OTR tyres. Heuver Tyrewholesale has reorganised its large off-road tyre range, introducing an extra tyre category between OTR and agricultural tyres. The wholesaler said the new categorisation is a reaction to shifting user requirements and a wide range of tyre possibilities. The “MPT agro industry” selection applies to tyres that do not fit comfortably in the ‘agricultural’ or ‘OTR’ categories. Heuver said its new category will allow it to improve its range and level of service, while allowing customers to find the tyres they need faster than before.
Marangoni’s Direct Retreading and Services business has announced it will raise product prices in Italy and Europe between March and April.
For the fifth consecutive year, Yokohama Tire Corporation has earned Caterpillar’s premier supplier award: the Platinum Level Recertification in its Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The award went to Yokohama’s factory in Onomichi, Japan, which produces OE and replacement off-the-road (OTR) tyres for a wide range of equipment.
Camso has announced a price increase averaging 8 per cent for all of its materials handling and construction tyres. The price increases, which come into effect on 1 April, will affect all aftermarket customers globally, but will vary depending on product line and regions. Camso attributes the increase to rising costs of raw materials.
On 23 January the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association published its members’ sales for the year 2016 and the last quarter of 2016.
Consumer tyres were up 2 per cent in 2016 – despite minor fluctuations during the third quarter and with a strong performance in the last quarter (+4%). OE consumer tyres sales followed the performance of new car registrations, albeit it more slowly, rising 3 per cent.
On 4 January 2017The US Department of Commerce (DOC) made final determinations in the countervailing duty investigations of imported off-the-road (OTR) tyres from India and Sri Lanka. In the India countervailing duty investigation, the DOC calculated a final subsidy rate of 5.36 per cent for mandatory respondent Balkrishna Industries and a final subsidy rate of 4.9 per cent for mandatory respondent ATC Tires. The government agency established a subsidy rate of 5.06 per cent for all other producers/exporters in India. In the Sri Lanka countervailing duty investigation, the DOC calculated a final subsidy rate of 2.18 per cent for mandatory respondent Camso Loadstar and for all other producers/exporters in Sri Lanka.
Magna Tyres Group has acquired OBO Tyres, the largest tyre retreader in the Netherlands. Founded in 1959, the company has specialized in producing retreaded tyres for the agricultural and OTR market and additional tyre repair services. Recently the company received exclusive distribution rights of the Magna agricultural, and MTP OTR tyres, which allowed the company to offer qualitative and cost effective new tyre solutions to the Benelux tyre market.
Exmile Tyre may be the OTR tyre OE supplier you have never heard of. However, according to the company, Exmile provides OE services to “more than 20 global and domestic machinery and equipment manufacturers” such as: Jungheinrich, Doosan, Terex, Manitou and Tailift. In the replacement market, Exmile tyre reports that it enjoys a good reputation and growth in countries like Australia, USA, South East Asia, East Europe, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.

The first load of giant OTR (Off The Road) tyres to be mounted on the largest dumpers in the world, and operate on the Copperbelt mines, arrived this morning at Superdoll’s newest Retreading & Repair OTR tyres plant based in Ndola, Zambia.
While its latest US acquisition gives an indication of Conti’s future fleet strategy, the manufacturer has also been boosted by recent European endorsements. Scottish quarrying and supply company, Tillicoultry Quarries, implemented a Continental construction tyres only policy following several months of practical on-the-job testing. Speaking from its company’s Kincardine site in Fife, Craig Wilson, site & transport manager, said: “For a long time we had run a combination of remoulds and ‘budget’ tyres. We were experiencing significant downtime however, as well as the added costs of driver waiting, mechanic call outs and delayed deliveries, so we implemented a thorough review of our tyre policy. At about that time, our latest batch of Scanias came in with Continental construction tyres fitted, which allowed us to monitor those particularly closely.”
