Yokohama Tire Corporation’s latest off-the-road (OTR) Sales and Reference Guide is now available in print and online. The 82-page guide featyres key off-the-road industry tyre and maintenance guidelines, as well as information on Yokohama’s complete line of OTR tyres.
The US Court of International Trade (CIT) has remanded five Chinese OTR tyre importers to the Department of Commerce (DOC). This means an antidumping duty determination against the five firms and has been made and DOC has been ordered to recalculate the antidumping margins it issued against them in a 2016 administrative review.
With a new tyre aimed at urban excavation applications, Nokian Heavy Tyres says it is introducing a tyre “designed to start a new era of excavation work in city environments all over the world.” It adds that the Nokian Armor Gard 2 resolves the “key issues” of urban excavation – ensuring safety and stability even in the most demanding tasks and preventing tyres from wearing rapidly during long on-road transitions.
A complaint often voiced by European retreaders is that their margins have been squeezed flat by imports of new tyres, especially products from China. But while many players have redirected excess capacity to Europe in the hope of claiming market share from retreaders, one tyre company has embarked upon a different approach. Instead of shipping its entire product range halfway around the world from the Far East to Europe, Magna Tyres Group has begun making some of its tyres within our region – and has teamed up with a retreader to do so.
At the end of January Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (Bridgestone) announced that it is offering PressureStat, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) launched for off-the-road (OTR) tyres in the construction, quarry, underground hard rock and port industries.
The Continental range of wheel loader and dump truck radials has been rounded out by the introduction of two more E4/L4 dimensions into its EM-Master line. The addition of these size 23.5R25 and 26.5R25 tyres give Continental a total of 13 loader and dump truck tyre sizes within its three tyre lines.
Production of Magna tyres will soon begin in Europe. In January, the Magna Tyres Group will officially open its own facility in the Netherlands. A factory has been set up at the Hardenberg site operated by Obo Tyres, the retreader acquired by Magna Tyres Group in late 2016. The company states that from January, the Netherlands will host the manufacture certain products in the Magna range.
Having worked for Mai Italia SrL for over 40 years, Renato Mai is retiring as president and CEO of the company. He will assume the post of honorary president; a position created by the shareholders that carries no management duties. Renato Mai will be succeeded as managing director and CEO by Federico Fiorini, who has over 15 years’ experience in the field of speciality tyres.
Maitech Tire will launch a new range of radial OTR tyres at The Tire Cologne. The new tyres will be displayed alongside other examples from its product range, including small bias construction, industrial and solid tyres on its 84sqm stand at Koelnmesse from 29 May to 1 June 2018.
Maitech Tire, the manufacturer of speciality, OTR, construction, mining and industrial tyres, has established a new, purpose-built European techno/commercial office at its headquarters in Verona, Italy. The company is holding a series of open days at its 16,000 square metre complex for selected customers, OEMs and companies from Maitech’s global network of dedicated partners.
In August Chinese tyre manufacturer Jiangsu General Science Technology Co. Ltd established a base in the USA. At the same businesses unfamiliar with the firm took an interest. With this in mind, during a recent visit to China, Tyres & Accessories met with Jiangsu General general manager Wang Xiao Jun in order to find out more about the company.
When Tyrepress.com visited BKT’s new factory in Bhuj, India late in 2015, work had begun on a new research and development centre. The off-road tyre maker reports that this facility is now complete, and it recently inaugurated the ‘Suresh Poddar Innovation Hub’. The centre is named after the oldest of the three Poddar brothers. It is located within a 25-acre area called the Mahabirprasad Poddar Knowledge Center, named after BKT founder, the late Mahabirprasad Poddar.
A new mining solution base has been set up in Western Australia to provide Bridgestone mining tyres, conveyor belts, and hydraulic hoses, as well as related services, to mine and port customers in the region. Bridgestone says the technologies and expertise accumulated at this base will be employed as the company systematically establishes new mining solution centres in areas near major mines worldwide.
Bobruisk, Belarus-based tyre manufacturer Belshina has announced that it has launched mass production of 18-inch SUV tyres. The company’s spokeswoman Viktoriya Kulik told local news source BelTA that it is making summer tyres for Geely cars produced at BelGee Factory.
Maxam Tire International has appointed Jeff Hughes as sales director, GOTR (giant off the road) tyres. Reporting directly to Maxam global president, Martin West, Hughes is predominantly responsible for driving and developing the sales and market share of Maxam GOTR tyres in mining and associated segments.
