Four Hankook tyre patterns will be shipped to Ford in North America as original equipment fitments for the new 2016 F-650 and F-750 medium duty trucks. The tyre maker will supply its AH11 and DH07 patterns in sizes 245/70R19.5 and 265/70R19.5, while the AH22 and DH15 will be available in size 275/80R22.5.
Jaguar Land Rover has chosen the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV as an original equipment fitment on the Range Rover Sport. This latest homologation builds on a series of original equipment tyre supply deals that include fitments for the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Toyo tyres have been selected for two models Toyota is releasing in North America under the Scion vehicle brand name. The Mazda 2-based 2016 Scion iA will be fitted with a 16-inch version of the Toyo Proxes A27 tyre, while the Toyota Auris-based Scion iM will ride on 17-inch Toyo Proxes 4 Plus B all-season tyres.
The most northerly haulage company on the UK mainland is continuing to fit Michelin tyres as original equipment and replacements across its 30-strong heavy truck fleet, nearly 100 years after its Michelin policy began. Scrabster-based D Steven & Son, which also has depots in Wick, Aberdeen and Glasgow, specifies Michelin’s latest generation 315/80 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D tyres on its prime movers – all of which are under three years old – claiming the fitments ensure mobility in extreme wet weather and snowy conditions.
Even though some 55 per cent of the more than RMB 9 billion (£943 million) it earned last year came from sales outside of China, Triangle Tyre Co. Ltd. doesn’t yet consider itself a global company. But this is something China’s largest privately-owned tyre business intends to change. Depending on specification, models of the new Audi Q7 fitted with size 255/60 R18 108Y or 285/45 R20 112Y tyres will be fitted with the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport SUV A as original equipment. Goodyear recently announced its supply of original equipment tyres for the Fiat 500X in Europe, and the crossover will now also wear Bridgestone rubber following the homologation of the Turanza T001. Shipments of size 225/45 R18 91V tyres to Fiat’s factory in Melfi, Italy have already begun.
The Honda HR-V will begin appearing in showrooms across Europe this summer, and Falken Tyre Europe shares that purchasers of the compact SUV have the option of choosing Falken tyres as original equipment. Honda Access Europe has approved the size 225/45R18 91W Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun for fitment; this is the first partnership between Falken Tyre Europe and Honda Access Europe. Initial batches of tyres are being delivered this month.
Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has clinched a three-year deal to support Garuda Indonesia’s fleet of Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen regional jets. The Open Country A/T II is the best-selling Toyo product in North America, and is described by its manufacturer as a “favourite among truck enthusiasts”. Ram Trucks, the pick-up truck brand established by Fiat Chrysler in 2010, has selected the tyre as the exclusive original equipment fitment for its new Ram 1500 Rebel. And the Toyo tyre is present inside the pick-up, too. In addition to being shod with the Open Country A/T II in size LT285/70R17, the Rebel’s front and rear passenger seats are embossed with the tyre’s tread pattern.
The new Range Rover Sport will ‘sponge’ up road noise following the homologation of the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) for certain models. Pirelli will supply its PNCS-equipped P Zero as the vehicle’s original equipment 22-inch summer fitment; the tyre maker reports that the Range Rover Sport is the first SUV to be fully homologated with the Pirelli noise reduction system, and the first Land Rover product to receive the PNCS as original equipment.
Two different Goodyear tyre models are being fitted as original equipment on the new Jeep Renegade. The Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV has been approved in size 215/65R16 98H, while the Vector4Seasons is supplied in sizes 215/60R17 96V LHD and 215/60R17 96V RHD.
Supply of Hankook tyres to Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Europe began in summer 2014, and the tyre maker has now expanded its original equipment portfolio with the vehicle manufacture. Hankook Tire has announced it will provide six sizes of tyre to the new Mercedes-Benz Actros.
As reported on 18 May, Kumho Tire has begun negotiations regarding its delivery of original equipment tyres to Yokohama Rubber. Kumho says that such a deal, if agreed upon, would help it increase the utilisation rate of its factories in China.
