Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has selected Apollo Tyres’ latest Vredestein Quatrac all-season tyre as original equipment for the new Caddy. It will fit the Quatrac in 205/65R15 99H XL to selected Caddy models manufactured at the Volkswagen production facility in Poznan, Poland.
Another original equipment approval for Continental, this time in China. Electric vehicle manufacturer Nio is equipping its new ET7 saloon for the Chinese market with 19- and 20-inch Continental EcoContact 6 tyres. Continental is exclusive supplier for 19-inch rim fitments.
The range-topping Maserati Grecale Trofeo and mild-hybrid Grecale MHEV are now available in European markets with bespoke Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres. Stellantis chose Bridgestone as tyre partner for its new D-segment utility vehicle (D-UV), and the tyre maker developed a version of its flagship tyre with a new tread compound and pattern.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has selected Continental tyres as an original equipment fitment for the fully electric RPV 500 and RPV 700 delivery vans it developed for online retailer Amazon. For the North American market, Rivian Prime Vans are equipped with size LT245/70 R16 VanContact A/S all-season tyres ex works.
The new BMW iX will roll off production lines on Pirelli P Zero Elect tyres. The electric SUV’s xDrive50 version will run on the 255/50R21 109Y XL and 275/40R22 107Y XL sizes, with the latter size also available for the sportier M60 model. Pirelli will mark these tyres with a star on the sidewall, indicating that they have been developed specially for BMW as part of its ‘perfect fit’ philosophy. Pirelli will also supply to BMW a special, grippy 22-inch tyre designed for maximum performance. This tyre has an “I” on the side, in addition to the star marking.
Hankook has won three more original equipment tyre fitments from the Volkswagen Group. It is supplying its ultra-high performance Ventus S1 evo 3 to the Golf GTI und Golf R, while the Tiguan R will roll on either the Ventus S1 evo 2 SUV or evo 3 SUV. The sporty variants of each VW model will benefit from the tyre manufacturer’s flagship UHP tyre technologies, with the Golfs running on 235/35R19 91Y tyres, and the Tiguan R SUV rolling on either the 255/40R20 101Y XL S1 evo 2 SUV, or the 255/35R21 98Y XL S1 evo 3 SUV variants.
Hankook will launch a new line of speciality electric vehicle tyres in May 2022. The line of Hankook iON tyres is developed to offer reduced rolling resistance and therefore an increase in range, lower tyre noise for more comfort, and higher resilience to deal with the higher torque of electric vehicles. The Korean manufacturer said that it is launching the iON line as a contribution to the transition towards zero emission vehicles. The iON line will be available initially in three designs for summer, winter, and all-season applications – the latter in North America, but with European seasonal fitments – in sizes between 18 and 22 inches. The tyres will respectively be launched as the Hankook Ventus iON S summer tyre pattern, the Hankook Winter i*cept iON (from September 2022), and the Hankook Ventus iON A. In addition to supplying its tyres to EV manufacturers and launching an EV tyre line in its domestic South Korean market, Hankook has recently aligned itself with a range of electric mobility projects, such as its title sponsorship of the inaugural Top Gear EV Awards in 2021. Hankook adds that further specific product designs are in the pipeline.
Modern Tyres has supplied a set of Michelin X Multi regional truck tyres to Craigavon-based MST Transport for fitment to a very special restoration of an iconic Scania truck. The Northern Irish haulier has painstakingly restored a Scania Royal Centurion 143 – one of only 100 Centurion models released in 1991 to celebrate the Swedish manufacturer’s 100th anniversary.
Ferrari has selected Michelin as an official tyre supplier for its new 296 GTB. Michelin will supply two different tyres for the car – the predominantly road-oriented Pilot Sport 4S K1 and the road legal Pilot Sport Cup 2R K2. The tyre maker says this latter product is for “drivers wishing to push the limits of their car on track.”
The conflict in Ukraine has impacted upon operations at Continental’s tyre factory in Kaluga, Russia. A spokesman confirmed to Tyrepress.com that the company has “suspended tyre production intended for export at our plant in Kaluga until further notice.”
Yokohama Rubber has extended its original equipment supply to BMW M GmbH with the supply of 20- and 21-inch versions of the Advan Sport V107 to the M3 and M4.
Continental says it has “developed a tyre with a significantly improved rolling resistance” for Peugeot, DS and Vauxhall vehicles with electric drives and combustion engines. Stellantis will factory-fit this 17-inch tyre on all electric SUVs, the Peugeot e-2008, the Vauxhall Mokka-E and the all-electric DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, as well as the combustion engine versions of these models.
Hankook Tire is supplying original equipment tyres for the 2022 Infiniti QX60. The SUV will wear the Hankook Dynapro HP2 in size 255/50R20.
Two German manufacturers have selected the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 as an original equipment tyre for new and existing performance models. The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ wears the tyre in size 275/35R22 104Y, while the BMW X5M & X6M upgrade from the V105 to this latest-generation Advan tyre.
