Giti Tire appoints senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE

Giti Tire has appointed Lars Ohnsorge as senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE. The company said the appointment of the experienced tyre professional would further strengthen its original equipment operations, following the recruitment of Nicolas Kluson as key account manager Europe OE in April, with both providing in-depth technical support and direction from the company’s European R&D Center in Hannover, Germany. Giti said its new OE team will immediately focus on the manufacturer’s existing OE relationships with BMW Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), VW Group (Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW) and VW Commercial Vehicles as well as introduce the Giti brand and business philosophy to other key vehicle manufacturers.

Pirelli unveils P Zero Trofeo RS – it’s ‘most sporting’ semi-slick tyre yet

Pirelli has launched the P Zero Trofeo RS, a new iteration of its semi-slick tyre range designed for sporting performance. The tyre has already been requested, in a specialised edition, for the Pagani Automobili Utopia hypercar. Pirelli said the tyre is a “technical evolution” of the P Zero Trofeo R, though the RS is primarily targeting original equipment channels, compared to the R’s positioning as an aftermarket tyre to improve on-track performance.

Pirelli Elect tyres for the Lotus Eletre hyper-SUV

Pirelli has homologated 10 different tyres to equip the Lotus Eletre, the brand’s first electric hyper-SUV. With different tyre sizes front and rear, this new car benefits from a 22-inch (275/40R22, 315/35R22) and a 23-inch (275/35R23, 315/30R23) P Zero, both available with and without Seal Inside technology, as well as a 22-inch P Zero Corsa (275/40R22, 315/35R22).

Goodyear develops bespoke Eagle F1 SuperSport tyre for 2023 Maserati GranTurismo

Goodyear has developed a bespoke version of its ultra-ultra high performance Eagle F1 Supersport tyre for the different versions of the Maserati GranTurismo. The car will be available with a V6 twin-turbo configuration with two different levels of performance. The tyres have been tuned to suit the characteristics of the new Maserati models and carry MGT markings to show that they have been specifically developed for the Italian brand.

Michelin tyres for latest BMW M2

Factory fitment of Michelin tyres on the BMW M2 continues with the latest incarnation of the sporty C-Segment coupe. The second-generation G82 model wears Pilot Sport 4 S tyres in size 275/35 ZR19 at the front and 285/30 ZR20 on the rear wheels. Track tyres are also available as an option in conjunction with the M Race Track Package, and BMW equips cars ordered in this configuration with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres in the same sizes.

European new-car sales rose 17 per cent in May – a 10th straight month of growth – thanks to a 13.3 per cent year-earlier decline and pent-up demand, finds a new report from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI). This is driven by easy year-earlier comparisons, fewer supply-chain hurdles and pent-up demand.

Linglong commences strategic cooperation with SAIC Volkswagen

A new strategic cooperation between Linglong Tire and SAIC Volkswagen will facilitate the development of products and innovations. Wang Feng, chairman and president of Linglong Tire, signed the agreement on behalf of the tyre maker during a ceremony held at SAIC Volkswagen headquarters in Shanghai, China on 12 June.

Airbus approves Goodyear aviation tyres for the new A321XLR

Airbus has approved Goodyear tyres for fitment on the new A321XLR. As a result of its system part certification, Goodyear’s Flight Radial will be among the tyres fitted when the aircraft enters service in 2024. Goodyear says the Flight Radial is one of its “most advanced” aviation products. It contains technologies that support the tyre’s dimensional stability for longer life and increased cut resistance. Its radial construction also offers more landings.

Yokohama BluEarth gets FAW Toyota EV sedan bZ3 OE fitment in China

Yokohama began delivering its BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres in February as original equipment for the new bZ3 electric vehicle (EV) sedan sold in China by FAW Toyota Motor Co Ltd (FAW Toyota). The manufacturer is supplying the tyre in sizes 215/65R16 98H and 225/50R18 95V. The bZ3 was jointly developed by BYD Toyota EV Technology Co, Ltd, a joint venture established by Toyota Motor Corporation and BYD Company Ltd, and FAW Toyota.

Dunlop joining Harley-Davidson’s 120th anniversary celebration

Harley-Davidson receives a lot of stick about the average age of its bikes’ owners, but even the most senior hog rider is a spring chicken in comparison to the brand itself. This year Harley-Davidson marks its 120th anniversary and will celebrate next month with the HD120 event at the Puskás Aréna. Dunlop will join the company in Budapest from 22 to 25 June.

VW chooses Goodyear as ID. Buzz supplier.

Goodyear has come on board as an original equipment tyre supplier to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and transport version ID. Buzz Cargo. VW operations in regional and national markets have the option of offering customers tyres from the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, UltraGrip Performance+ or Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 ranges as standard.

Hankook aiming to almost double EV tyre supplies to OEMs

Hankook Tire anticipates that tyres for electric vehicles will account for around 20% of its original equipment passenger car and light truck tyre deliveries in 2023. This figure represents a notable increase over prior years: EV tyres accounted for 11% of OEM car and light truck shipments in 2022 and just 5% in 2021.

Audi selects Continental SportContact 7 for RS 6 Avant performance

Audi is factory-fitting its RS 6 Avant performance with Continental SportContact 7 tyres. Continental shares that it has obtained global approval for equipping this Audi model with a 22-inch fitment, and in numerous markets including the UK and Ireland the tyre of choice is the SportContact 7 AO Silent in size 285/30 ZR 22 101Y XL FR.

Several years ago, a large Chinese tyre maker expressed to us its confidence that it would supply original equipment tyres for Europe within a decade – the assumption being that its tyres would arrive on Chinese vehicle brands imported into the region. Keeping an eye on OEM deals in China thus provide insights into which tyres we may see as original equipment in the coming years.

Pirelli, Michelin tyres OE on Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 is out of the bag, and Polestar says its latest model “transforms the aerodynamics of a coupé and the space of an SUV into a new breed of SUV coupé.” The fully electric vehicle will be available from 2024 in both dual- and single-motor versions, delivering in the dual configuration 400 kW (544 hp), 686 Nm and a preliminary range target of up to 560 kilometres (348 miles) WLTP. Wheels range from 20 to 22 inches in size, depending on the version, with tyres supplied by Pirelli and Michelin.
