Blackcircles Joins the Fleet Business

Blackcircles.com is to challenge the established fleet market with the launch of its own online fleet service. Recent appointment, Paul Collins, will be responsible for ensuring consistent delivery and on-going innovation by managing Black Circles Fleet.

According to the company, the new service will be available to vehicle fleets of all sizes. Furthermore, blackcircles.com/fleet is said to significantly simplify the purchase process by providing access through a web-based system. Businesses will have their own private area containing all their vehicle details and will be able to make transactions using a unique PIN number.

Tyre Tools Online has Arrived

On 1 February Harvie/Prema will ‘go live’ with its new website (www.tyretools.co.uk). The company’s B2B online presence will provide a complete virtual catalogue initially covering the majority of Harvie/Prema’s product range and primarily concentrating on the fast moving consumer items. According to the company, the target market for this concept will be those customers that have a genuine desire to purchase products online which will be rewarded by an additional discount. This is an additional service and existing customers that continue to require direct service calls and account status will be maintained with a high level of customer care.

Bulgarian Tyre Recycling Plant Goes Online

Bulgarian company Ecoprocess (Dobrich) has completed the construction of a tyre recycling factory. The plant uses a technique called vacuum pyrolysis to incinerate tyres and break them down into carbon, pyrolysis oil and gas.

CTNA Goes Online With Financial Claims System

(Akron/Tire Review) Continental Tire North America (CTNA) launched what it called “the first online financial claims management system” for dealers in the North American tyre industry. The online effort is “designed to streamline the processing of financial claims for CTNA’s business partners and to eliminate a majority of the documentation which was previously submitted in hard copy format,” the company said.

The Tire Society Publishes Journal Online

The Tire Society has released an online version of its quarterly journal, Tire Science and Technology. The online journal reportedly includes the world’s largest collection of critically reviewed literature on tyre science and technology; fully searchable journal index, including title, authors, keywords, abstract, and other bibliographic details.

e-tailer: Longer Service Intervals Can Lead to Safety Issues

Motorists are reportedly spending less time in garages than they have before because of longer periods between services. This could all mean dangerous tyres are not getting spotted.

Online tyre retailer, Rubberball.co.uk, has warned service routines are now stretching to 20,000 miles or longer, tyres are not being checked for as much as 10 years.

Dunlop is Online for Enthusiasts

Dunlop has launched a new website for motorcycle and car enthusiasts. Injection.tv aims to support Dunlop’s ‘Drivers Know’ brand strategy and offers features such as driving simulation, screensavers, driving tips, as well as the latest ‘must-have’ accessories.

1 in 10 UK Drivers Below Tread Depth Limit

Online tyre company rubberball.co.uk has published research showing that 10 per cent of British motorists will be driving with at least one faulty tyre this winter. Only 9 per cent of drivers surveyed were aware that the minimum legal tread depth is 1.6 millimetres and a further 10 per cent believed that their tyres were still safe below this level.

Inventor Puts Tiger in the Tank, Literally

Want a novel way of beating sky-high pump prices and fuel strikes? A German inventor claims he has developed a way to make cheap diesel fuel out of dead cats. Dr Christian Koch, 55, from Kleinhartmannsdorf, said his method uses old tyres, weeds and animal corpses.

The ingredients are heated up to 300 Celsius to filter out hydrocarbons which are then turned into diesel by, and this is no joke, using a catalytic converter. Dr Koch told online new sources the resulting “high quality bio-diesel” costs just 15 pence per litre. The cadaver of a fully-grown cat can produce as much as 2.5 litres of fuel – meaning around 20 cats are needed for a full tank, he explained.

“I tank my car with my own diesel mixture and have driven it for 105,000 miles without any problems,” Dr Koch told Germany’s Bild newspaper.

Furthermore, the Internet was the fastest growing retail sector last year, attracting one in four shoppers.

Michelin to Shed F1 Teams

Tyre supplier Michelin is set to shed at least two F1 teams next year, online news sources have reported. Michelin currently dominates the Formula 1 grid, supplying tyres to 70 per cent of entrants. Michelin CEO Edouard Michelin is expected to announce which teams will swap suppliers to Bridgestone at Spa this weekend. Further speculation has suggested that Michelin may pull out of F1 completely at the end of 2006. Teams tipped to move to Bridgestone include Red Bull and Williams. Toyota is also reported to be under pressure to team up with the fellow Japanese company.
