National fast fit operator, Hi-Q Fleet, has secured a major contract to supply the tyre management service to an expanding telecommunications installation company. Avonline plc, based in Ashton Vale in Bristol, is one of the UK’s leading installation contractors and has a fleet of over 600 vehicles which cover the length and breadth of the UK.
Maxxis has a new business-to-business Web site (www.maxxislink.com), providing US customers increased options for online ordering, payments, order tracking and other key functions. (Akron/Tire Review) New television ads supporting the recently launched consumer campaign for Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire (BFNAT) were revealed at the Chicago Auto Show this week.
Produced by Dallas-based The Richards Group, the commercials will air this year on national TV networks and more than 15,000 movie screens across the country. BFNAT said it will also conduct an extensive print and online ad campaign to complement the broadcast message. In addition, “Bridgestone or Nothing” ads will be displayed on the tyremaker’s fleet of customer delivery service vehicles.

Set for Mar. 23-24, 2007 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, the Spring Expo and Off-Road Show is open to all automotive retailers.
Goodyear workers from the Canadian Salaberry-de-Valleyfield tyre plant have taken their fight to save the factory onto the internet. The workers, with the support of the local community, have launched an online petition to muster support in convincing the American tyremaker to reverse its decision to close the facility.
Scottish based online tyre retailer Black Circles has been dealt a blow by the unexpected departure of its finance director, Bob Russell. Mr. Russell had been with Black Circles since its early days and in August 2006 had joined the company’s Board of Directors. He reportedly was a key adviser to chief executive, Michael Welch.
Black Circles has over 900 contracted fitting outlets, and the company is currently finalising its plans to double this number, as well as enter the French and German markets. No replacement for Russell has been named at present.
Vicki Butler-Henderson, former racing car driver and presenter of the popular channel five motoring programme Fifth Gear, has put her support behind online tyre franchise etyres.
Online news sources have reported that the fire at a tyre business Rochford was at Triple XXX Tyres & Wheels. Auto Wired quoted owner Mark Dolden as saying: “We were working at the time when somebody smelt smoke. We got the extinguisher on it but it quickly became apparent it was bigger than that, so I called the fire brigade. There was probably about £50,000 worth of wheels in there. The building itself is worth around £350,000.”
Earlier Belfairs Tyre & Exhaust Centre in Leigh, Essex, sustained about £500,000-worth of damage, Auto Wired reported.
Rio Tinto, the large Australian mining company, has announced that it will be holding an online auction of heavy earthmoving tyres through DoveBid, Inc. The sale features over 120 radial and cross-ply tyres in both new and used condition, from major manufacturers – Bridgestone, Goodyear and Michelin. Assets are located in USA, UK and Australia. The sale will be held on 23 January 2007, commencing online at 9:00 (AEDT), and closing on 24 January at 17:00 (AEDT). DoveBid, Inc. is a global provider of capital asset management and valuation services. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, USA, DoveBid has associates in 37 offices and 20 countries.
Fire crews have unsuccessfully fought to save a specialist tyre warehouse from destruction in the Essex town of Rochford. Eight fire pump units attended the Ashingdon Road blaze early on Thursday January 4, and were required to cut open the building with a disc cutter in order to gain access to the heavily smoke logged site.
TireWare Inc, a US based provider of business management software for tyre and vehicle service centres, has introduced what it claims to be the industry’s first subscription based online point of sale and distribution software. TireWare’s new pay as you go ‘software as a service’ system provides dealers with a whole new way of acquiring and managing their business software.
