BiGDUG’s tyre racking is up to 30 per cent cheaper than other market competitors. That’s the claim being made by the Tewkesbury-based commercial and industrial racking company. The tyre system itself is said to be boltless and “easy enough for anybody to construct.”
Wheelwright has introduced a new pseudo-split rim Dotz wheel to its catalogue. The new “Territory” features a deep-dish profile and is fully TÜV approved. Although the wheel has many passenger car fitments, Wheelwright explains that it was designed for the SUV market, with a load index up to handling most of the biggest arches.
Over in Germany, online tyre retailer Delticom commissioned research company Forsa to study consumer attitudes to buying tyres online. Forsa surveyed 1,000 German potential tyre purchasers, aged 18 to 65 years, and noted that acceptance towards online tyre purchases is still growing.
Diagnostics firm Texa is to show its news AXONE 4 technology at this year’s CV Show. According to the company, the AXONE 4 presents a series of unique characteristics, many of which are linked to the functionality provided by an internet connection.

Vehicle data expert, HPI, is offering motor dealers online access to information that will enable their customers to buy a car that will safely and legally tow their caravan. Many motorists are unaware that if their car is incorrectly matched to the caravan they are towing they may be stopped, fined £1,000 or gain three points on their licence. Towsafe, powered by HPI, has been providing a car and caravan matching service for over 10 years and now dealers can use this as a robust tool to secure a sales opportunity and increase customer satisfaction levels, whilst meeting their Duty of Care obligations.
Pirelli has made its Diablo Super Biker application, launched last August on Apple’s iPhone, can now be used on Android devices. The free app boasts an award received at SMAU 2011 in the Utilities Tools and Productivity category of the Mob App Awards. Pirelli says more than 50,000 bikers have downloaded it.
Netherlands-based wholesaler Heuver Banden is introducing a ‘second life’ for Aeolus tyres in the markets where it represents the Chinese tyre maker. The company has released its first retreaded Aeolus tyre, the mould cure retreaded Eco-Twin trailer tyre in size 385/65R22.5. Heuver says the use of high quality Aeolus casings ensures excellent performance for the tyre’s second life, along with reduced operating costs.
Maxxis has announced that it has become the most recent tyre manufacturer to sign up with EDIWheel. “The economic environment means that tyre retailers are looking to maximise their existing resources to reduce the costs involved in running their businesses and EDIWheel represents a no cost benefit to them because they do not have to upgrade their software to access it,” says Maxxis International UK’s managing director Derek McMartin.
Online tyre retailer Delticom has secured exclusive distribution rights in a number of European markets, including the UK, for the Anlas range of two-wheeler tyres. The Turkish tyre maker produces tyres for bicycles, mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, golf carts, ATV and agricultural vehicles; the initial range distributed by Delticom includes three products for scooters and mopeds, the M+S marked MB-458 Wintergrip scooter tyre, the Trials scooter cross tyre and the NR-SP WW whitewall tyre for urban retro scooters.
The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has announced plans to host an online webinar TPMS tomorrow 21 March. This twice monthly online webinar series is designed to help Tire Industry Association's current and future members learn how to stay ahead of the competition. Webinar attendees do not have to be a TIA member to participate in the online webinars.
Yokohama Tire Corporation has launched an online-based resource tool that helps fleet owners effectively manage the costs and pressures of their tyres. The Yokohama Inflation Pressure Calculator recommends appropriate inflation levels, thus preventing under-inflation or over-inflation that are often the culprit behind the most common tyre wear, tyre damage and excess fuel consumption.
"Vehicle manufacturers must comply with European legislation and make their technical information available to independent garages" said Stuart James, Independent Garage Association (IGA) Director, speaking to fleet operators at the BVRLA Technical and Operational Management Forum.
Delticom reports that it now offers UK fleets mobile servicing through its Fleettyres24.co.uk online portal. At present mobile service through Fleettyres24.co.uk is available from more than 150 service providers throughout the UK, and tyres can be delivered and fitted to the customer’s home or other place of their choosing.
Merityre has introduced Cam Systems’ Wholesale Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. The system is designed to help the tyre specialist improve its customer intelligence and data reporting specifically for its retail customer base, according to the software provider.
