Maserati has selected Continental tyres as original equipment on its Grecale SUV. 19-inch Continental CrossContact LX Sport tyres as well as 21-inch CrossContact RX tyres have received worldwide approval for the model. 20-inch Continental EcoContact 6 tyres have also been approved. The latter tyre is designed for energy-saving and noise-optimised driving, making it especially suitable for the hybrid version of the SUV, according to Continental.
Made from 65 per cent recycled and biomaterials, the TM1 Eco Power is described as “a testament of…on-going commitment to a more productive and sustainable future for agriculture, aiming at decreasing fossil fuel dependency and increasing product circularity, while vastly improving customer’s operational performance”. Engineered for the new generation of electric tractors, the TM1 Eco Power tyre “prioritises sustainability” and but also features ultra-low rolling resistance properties for low energy consumption.
A week before we went to press, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the UK would no-longer be phasing out ICE vehicles by 2030. Rather, the deadline would be pushed back to 2035. Not only was that decision a u-turn, it was a policy decision explicitly designed to slow down sales of electric vehicles, as number 10’s official statement at the time testifies: “Under revised plans, the Government will move back the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by five years, so all sales of new cars from 2035 will be zero emission. This will enable families to wait to take advantage of falling prices over the coming decade if they wish to.”
Fruehauf Inc. (Fruehauf) is recalling certain 2025 Composite trailers equipped with the Tire Pilot Plus tyre pressure regulation systems (TPRS) in the USA. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documentation 786 trailers are affected and all eight tyres on affected trailers “may experience a loss of tyre pressure while driving faster than 45 mph.”
The Maxxis MaxxCross MX-ST+ motocross tyre has been selected again as original equipment for the 2024 range of GASGAS motocross bikes. Meanwhile, the 2024 enduro range including the EC450F and EC500F models will feature Maxxis MaxxEnduro tyres.
GRI has appointed Luca Pini as the company’s OEM lead in Europe. According to the company, Pini will play a pivotal role in driving GRI’s growth and expansion in the European Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) market.
Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd is supplying Geolandar X-CV tyres as original equipment (OE) for Toyota Motor Corporation’s first-ever Grand Highlander SUV, which was launched in North America in June 2023. The Grand Highlander is being fitted with 255/65R18 111H and 255/55R20 107V size tyres.
TMT Tanks & Trailers, the Italian trailer manufacturer, has selected Apollo Tyres’ EnduRace RT2 tyre as original equipment (OE) for its premium ‘moving floor’ truck trailers. TMT’s moving floor trailers feature specialised loading and unloading systems that allow the unloading of bulk material without the need for tilting mechanisms.
CEAT Specialty showcased its Spraymax, Farmax R80, Farmax R65, Farmax RC, Floatmax RT and Floatmax FT range at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh at the end of June.
Vipal will supply tyres directly for the production of Honda motorcycles in Brazil. The Honda CG 160 Fan will be the first model to come out with Vipal tyres as original equipment (OE). The motorbike will specifically be fitted with Street ST600 80/100-18 (front) and Street ST600 90/90-18 (rear) tyres. Both are tubeless designs.
The new car market grew 28.3 per cent in July with 143,921 new vehicles registered, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). As a result, the market has enjoyed non-stop growth for a full year despite challenging economic conditions, as supply chain challenges ease, production increases and deliveries can be fulfilled.
Isuzu Motors Co. (Thailand) Ltd. (IMCT) recently awarded Yokohama Tire Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd. (YTST) and Yokohama Rubber (Thailand) Co. Ltd. (YRTC), which manufactures and sells hoses, its “IMCT QD Score 100 Points 3Y” award. The Isuzu Motors Limited subsidiary presented the award at a ceremony held by IMCT on 31 May.
18 years after MG Rover collapsed and was bought by SAIC (Shanghai Industry Automotive Corporation) and 7 years after the carmaker moved MG production to China in 2016, SAIC is planning to build a new car factory in Europe. The location has not yet been finalised and details of which brands will be made there are scant, but as the European car parc transitions to electric vehicles, it appears that the production history of the MG Rover is going full circle.
Yokohama Europe has invited journalists from across the continent to attend the launch of the Advan Sport EV V108 at the renowned Nurburgring racetrack in Germany. Yokohama launched the Geolandar CV 4S G061 crossover-oriented tyre at the same time. Meanwhile, the event also incorporated a celebration of the 45th anniversary of Yokohama’s flagship Advan brand.
Linglong Tire is partnering with Geely Automobile Research Institute in the establishment of a joint R&D centre called the Geely Engineering Center & Linglong Technology Center TIH Laboratory.
