White is the number one car colour once again, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). White demand grew 2.2 per cent to 564,393 units in 2015. However, green saw the biggest uplift, with demand up 31.2 per cent to take seventh place in nation’s top 10.

The latest Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) figures show that 10 per cent of MOT failures were due to tyre issues – the second most frequent reason. In 2015 the British car manufacturing industry made more cars than any year since 2005 when 1,595,697 vehicles were produced, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Data released on 21 January shows that production increased 3.9 per cent on 2014, with output at 1,587,677 overtaking pre-recession levels for the first time.

ACEA European passenger car registrations figures show the market grew 9.3 per cent year-on-year to 13.71 million units in 2015, helped by a 16.6 per cent year-on-year jump in December. Patrick McGillycuddy is taking over as Head of Group Fleet Services at Volkswagen Group UK, following on from Steve Catlin who moves to another senior role within the Group in the UK. McGillycuddy, who will take up his new position on 15 February, joins the Group Fleet Services function from ŠKODA UK, where he has been Head of Fleet for the past two and a half years. Prior to joining the Volkswagen Group he held roles at Vauxhall, GM and Peter Vardy.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has appointed Nigel Butler, who is commercial director of Renault Trucks, as the new chair of its Commercial Vehicle Group.
Volkswagen could face fines of up to £60 billin after the US Justice Department filed a civil lawsuit against it for violating clean air laws. It alleges that Volkswagen installed ‘defeat devices’ in almost 600,000 diesel vehicles in the US to cheat emission tests. The Justice Department recently filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency, which accuses Volkswagen of four counts of violating the US Clean Air Act. In theory, Volkswagen could be handed fines of about £25,000 per vehicle found to have violated the law.
