Pirelli coloured tyres debut on Italian police cars

Pirelli’s new coloured edition tyres, which were launched at the Geneva Motor Show, have made their road-going debut with the Italian police force.

Lamborghini has donated a new Huracan to Italy’s police, which like every Lamborghini is equipped with Pirelli tyres as original equipment. However, this is the first road-going example to use the new coloured edition tyres following their Geneva debut – and naturally, the colour that has been chosen is a specially-created police blue to match the Lamborghini’s distinctive police livery.

OE brand pull-through lower in Indian tyre market

According to the JD Power 2017 India Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Index Study 34 per cent of customers in India cannot recall their tyre brand. Furthermore, only 58 per cent of these customers say they “definitely would” repurchase the original brand, as compared to 65 per cent of those customers who could identify their brand.

Apollo developing tyres for Indian military

Apollo Tyres is reportedly developing tyres for India’s defence forces that will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Chennai, India. The Chennai facility currently produces 16,000 passenger car tyres and 6,000 truck-bus radials per day, according to Apollo. The company is in the process of doubling the truck-bus radial capacity at the factory to 12,000 tyres per day.

Leading marques considering Apollo as an OE supply partner

37% of consumers choose OE tyre brand – JD Power

According to the JD Power 2017 US Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study, 37 per cent of owners who replaced two or more tyres on their vehicle selected the tyre brand that was OE fitted to the vehicle.

Ultra-Seal gains Schmitz Cargobull and Kögel as OE customers

Schmitz Cargobull and Kögel Trailer GmbH & Co. KG recently started filling tyres with Ultra-Seal from their respective trailer factories. The news comes is one of a series of announcements that show a significant jump in Ultra-Seal usage.

At the same time Ultra-Seal reports that it is “systematically acquiring full European network coverage by contracting Europart Denmark and Eurotyre Belgium for the distributorship rights for the sale of Ultra-Sea”.

Avon increases Cobra tyre production

Avon Tyres has increase production its Cobra motorcycle tyre in response to the successful launch of the new Triumph Bonneville Bobber.

Toyota investing £240 million in Derbyshire factory

Toyota Motor Europe will invest a further £240 million in its Toyota Manufacturing UK (TMUK) car plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire (UK). According to the company, Toyota’s investment will be spent on improving competitiveness and promoting UK supply chain efficiencies.

Yokohama wins Caterpillar Platinum Supplier Award for 5th year straight

For the fifth consecutive year, Yokohama Tire Corporation has earned Caterpillar’s premier supplier award: the Platinum Level Recertification in its Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The award went to Yokohama’s factory in Onomichi, Japan, which produces OE and replacement off-the-road (OTR) tyres for a wide range of equipment.

Westlake supplies 3000 DSV trailers with tyres in OE expansion bid

Westlake tyres is supplying global transport and logistics firm DSV with tyres for 3000 commercial vehicle trailers as the sole original equipment fitment. According to Westlake representatives, the latest news comes as part of a strategy for Westlake to expand in the OE market for the fleets in Europe during the coming year.

Automechanika Birmingham 2017 part of UK automotive’s reshoring efforts

Not only is Automechanika Birmingham 2017 set to be 70 per cent bigger than last year’s inaugural show, this year’s event seeks to connect the aftermarket with industry and government to support inward investment. Speaking at a press conference in central London on 9 March, Automechanika Birmingham event director Simon Albert and SMMT chief executive shared how they will bring the UK automotive industry together as part of efforts to “boost supply chain reshoring and make British cars more British” while at the same connecting the manufacturing and aftermarket sectors with each other.

PSA acquires Opel/Vauxhall

In a deal designed to make PSA Group the second largest carmaker in Europe, the Peugeot-Citreon brand owner has bought GM’s long-term lossmaking Opel and Vauxhall brands and production bases for 2.2 billion euros. This figure includes a joint venture with BNP Paribas on the GM Europe auto financing operations (valuing these transactions at 1.3 billion euros and 0.9 billion, respectively). West European trailer demand hits high

The West European Trailer Market had the third highest level of new trailer registrations ever, surpassed only by the figures for 2007 and 2008 before the GFC.

However, there, there was a distinct weakening of the market in the second half of the year and Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Spain were all less buoyant markets at the end of the year than they were in mid-2016.
