2017 – 2021 trailer registration growth forecast higher than any 5-year period ever

Clear International has just issued its latest forecast for the West European Trailer Market, which suggests that trailer registrations between 2017 and 2021 will grow at a faster five-year period than any other on record.

Since the last report there has been a further improvement in the short term outlook for some West European economies. As a consequence, the forecast of a slowdown in demand for trailers in the region during 2018 has changed.

6 tyre manufacturers among GM supplier award winners

General Motors recognized its most innovative partners at its 26th Supplier of the Year awards ceremony on 20 April in Orlando, Florida. Recipients of the Supplier of the Year award include 125 suppliers from 17 countries, with 16 first-time winners, as well as 11 companies who earned GM’s Innovation Award, Overdrive Award and Customer of the Year award.

Eastern Europe trailer markets strengthened in 2H 2017

Poland, Russia and Turkey, the three largest trailer markets in Eastern Europe, all rallied in the second half of 2017 to push total trailer demand for the region back over 90,000 units for the first time in 10 years, according to Clear International data, which adds: “The strong demand will carry forward into 2018 so that the market will grow by another 4.0 per cent”.

Cooper Tire Asia has received the 2017 Excellent Supplier award from Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC). The award was given at BAIC’s recent annual supplier conference held in Beijing.

Bridgestone tyre selected for 2019 Jeep Cherokee

In the USA, Bridgestone and Firestone-branded tyres have been specified as original equipment for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, Bridgestone Americas has announced.

The Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus tyre will be supplied as standard equipment on 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland models in size 235/50 R19.

A month after Pirelli revealed it is making OE tyres to Lamborghini’s first SUV (the Urus) the tyre manufacturer is giving further detail of the six tyres it is supplying. For such an extreme car, which can go from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and from 0-200km/h in 12.8 seconds, with a maximum speed of 305km/h, Pirelli could clearly not develop just a single tyre. Depending on the style and driving mode selected, Pirelli has provided Urus drivers with three families of product: P Zero for lovers of performance, P Zero Corsa for those seeking on-track adrenaline, and Scorpion for those who favour more adventurous driving, off-road as well.

Pirelli name Marco Crola as NAFTA CEO

Pirelli has chosen Marco Crola as its new CEO for the NAFTA region, effective immediately. Crola joins the North American team from Pirelli’s Milan headquarters, where he has most recently served as senior vice president of Global Original Equipment and Prestige Business. As CEO of NAFTA, Crola will be responsible for the car and motorcycle businesses, as well as manufacturing facilities in Rome, Georgia, USA, and Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico. This follows the departure of Pierluigi Dinelli who left the company to pursue personal interests.

Trailer registrations near record highs in 2017

In 2017 trailer registrations reached over 190,000 in Western Europe which is the third highest level of demand ever recorded – surpassed only in 2007 and 2008, just before the 2009 crash caused by the global financial crisis (GFC), according to the latest data from Clear International.

Goodyear wins “Chassis Supplier of the Year” from Fiat Chrysler

On 7 December 2017, at the annual supplier conference at the Auditorium G. Agnelli Lingotto in Turin (Italy), Goodyear was awarded “Chassis Supplier of the Year” by the famous Italian-American car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles EMEA. It is the first time a tyremaker has received the award.

Giti Tire OE on new VW Polo in Europe

Giti Tire has announced a second OE supply contract with the Volkswagen Group in Europe. Following the contract to equip the Seat Ibiza, produced at the Spanish manufacturer’s Martorell plant, Giti Tire has now been chosen as an OE tyre supplier for the new VW Polo. Built at VW’s Pamplona factory, the Polo will roll off the assembly line wearing 185/70 R14 88H GitiSynergyE1 tyres.

Audi most expensive German car brand to own

It won’t be a surprise to learn that Germany’s premium car brands are the most expensive to run long-term. However, when you put Audi, BMW and Mercedes alongside each other, less of us may have guessed that Audi would be most expensive.

Recent research conducted by whocanfixmycar.com analysed more than 180,000 data points relating to the brands, and has found that Audi is 24 per cent more expensive to repair than BMW and Mercedes models and nearly 10 per cent more expensive than BMW.

European new car sales hit 10-year high

“It is positive to see that demand for new cars in Europe grew by +3.4 per cent in 2017 and reached a 10-year high of 15.6 million units sold”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers in the UK, commenting on the latest figures by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

Volvo to develop autonomous electric buses for Singapore

Volvo Buses and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore have signed a cooperation agreement on a research and development programme for autonomous electric 12-metre buses. For Volvo Group this will be the first autonomous application in public transportation. Volvo Group has also presented an autonomous, battery-electric, load carrier.
