WLTP and economic uncertainty depress LCV market in September

“Registrations of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes fell by -23.5 per cent in September, as a result of the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) for vans and continued economic uncertainty”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association which represents franchised commercial vehicle and car retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s light commercial vehicle registration figures.

VW and Daimler back heycar used car online marketplace

A new online marketplace for used cars launches in the UK today (15 August). heycar.co.uk is on a mission to bring greater trust and transparency to one of the UK economy’s largest retail sectors.

The brand will do this by creating a superior user experience for consumers and dealers, launching with an inventory of over 100,000 listed vehicles from nearly 50 brands across 1,400 dealerships.

In the USA, Yokohama Tire Corporation has been recognized by Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) with a supplier’s award in the Excellent Performance category. Yokohama earned the award for its supply of the AVID S34P (225/40R18 88V) tyres on the Impreza.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S OE on new BMW X3 M and X4 M

BMW has chosen the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S) tyres as a 21-inch summer tyre fitment for its new high-performance X3 M and X4 M models. According to company, the new BMW X3 M and X4 M Competition models, which are fitted with 21-inch light alloy wheels, will be equipped with Michelin PS4S 255/40ZR21 102Y front and 265/40ZR21 105Y rear ultra-high-performance tyres.

West European trailer demand could fall 10%

West European trailer demand has not only faltered, but could fall by as much as 10 per cent, according to the latest analysis by Clear International. And, of course, if trailer demand is set to fall by as much as 10 per cent, this trend will no-doubt bring truck tyre OE sales down with it.

Maxxis to supply OE to Hero MotoCorp

UK economy in reverse after drop in automotive manufacturing

The UK economy contracted 0.4 per cent compared with the month before, following a sharp decline in automotive manufacturing, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). As a result of the contraction, growth for the three months to April slowed to 0.3 per cent.

April motorcycle sales up 7.3 per cent year-on-year

“The motorcycle market continued its upward trend in April, with sales up 7.3 per cent ahead of the same period last year and up 9.4 per cent year-to-date”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK. McLaren makes 20,000th car

McLaren Automotive made its 20,000th hand-assembled car at its McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, Surrey.

The 20,000th car built was a right-hand drive 600LT Spider in Chicane Grey from the brand’s Sports Series line-up. Launched only last summer as the next chapter in the McLaren ‘Longtail’ story, all production slots for the Coupe variant have already been filled. It has been fitted with Pirelli Trofeo R tyres.

General Grabber AT3 recommended for BMW X5

The General Tire brand has been approved as original equipment (OE) fitment for the latest BMW X5, according to Continental Tyre South Africa. The manufacturer reports that the all-terrain Grabber AT3 has been recommended in size 275/45 R20 110V XL on the Bavarian automaker’s latest X range model for its optional ‘Off-Road Package’.
