Global light vehicle market continues recovery
The global light vehicle market continued its post-corona recovery in June, market analysts report. Global light vehicle sales fell by 19.1 per cent in June, year-on-year, to 6.2 million for a seasonally adjusted annualised running rate (SAAR) of 73.1 million in the month, according to GlobalData.
Calum MacRae, Automotive Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “While these results are some way behind industry norms, they do demonstrate that the global market has recovered from its April low when a SAAR of 48.2 million was registered.”
Trelleborg group sales relatively good, but tyre sales impacted
TrelleborgTrelleborg Group has reported “satisfactory” second quarter 2020 financial results “under the circumstances”, the company stated in its second quarter results. Specifically, Trelleborg Group organic sales declined 19 per cent, albeit with an improvement in the latter part of the quarter. As a result, net sales for the second quarter declined 18 per cent to 7,689 million Swedish krone. Pre-tax profits (EBIT) declined 29 per cent, corresponding to an operating margin of 12.3 per cent. At the same time, operating cash flow was strengthened “significantly”, according to the company.
MPs demand £3 billion UK bus investment

Fiat/Peugeot group to be called Stellantis
StellantisOnce the 50:50 merger Peugeot S.A. (Groupe PSA) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA) is completed, the new group will be called Stellantis.
According to the companies, Stellantis is rooted in the Latin verb “stello” meaning “to brighten with stars”.
Yokohama earns third straight Subaru Supplier Award
In the US, for the third year-in-a-row, Yokohama Tire Corporation has been recognized by Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) with a supplier’s award. The third consecutive award earned the tyremaker a spot in in the prestigious Superior Excellent Performance category. Yokohama earned the award for its supply of the Avid S34P (P225/40R18 88V) tyres on the Impreza and Avid GT S35 on the Legacy (P225/55R17 97V and 225/50R18 95V), and on the Outback (225/65R17 102H and 225/60R18 100H).
Nexen names Edwin van der Stad vice president OE Europe
NexenDutchman Edwin van der Stad has been appointed as vice president OE Europe at Nexen Tire. Van der Stad brings 30 years of experience and premium level OE management with him to the Korean tyre manufacturer. Prior to joining Nexen, van der Stad spent many years with Bridgestone. Van der Stad’s new role took effect in March.

ACEA forecasts record 25% drop in car sales

The association revised its forecast radically due to the economic challenges the COVID-19 pandemic poses to the auto industry. Around 3 million fewer cars will be sold in 2020 according to the forecast. EU sales numbered 12.8 million in 2019, but are now forecast to be as low as 9.6 million in 2020.

‘Positive trading’ since car showroom reopening – NFDA
Responding to the 52.3 per cent fall in May European car registrations, the NFDA says UK showrooms are reporting “positive trading” in the two weeks since reopening. The latest figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) show that the decline has become less severe. In April, sales had declined by 76.3 per cent.

Although COVID-19 lockdown measures were eased in many countries last month, the number of new cars sold across the European Union fell from 1,217,259 units in May 2019 to 581,161 passenger cars in May of this year.
