John Powath, CEO of Asian Business Media (ABM), which published titles including Rubber Asia, passed away at night on 28 March 2017, in Kochi, India.
A well-known personality in the rubber industry, John Powath had a wide circle of friends in the industry. He was associated with All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) for decades and played a crucial role in the growth of the association and its flagship event, India Rubber Expo (IRE).

George Payne, a well-known and respected member of the tyre and tyre consumables market, has died at the age of 64 from the effects of motor neurone disease. Working in the tyre industry since leaving school, Payne fitted tyres and owned a tyre retail shop. He later moved into tyre procurement and latterly wholesaling tyre consumables.
The editorial team at Tyres & Accessories/Tyrepress.com were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Jim Smith, editor of US tyre industry publication Tire Review. Smith, aged 58, died suddenly at the ‘Tire Industry Association OTR Conference’ in San Diego last week.
Kraiburg has announced the sudden passing of “friend and former colleague” Helmut Ehmann. Ehmann died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday 28 October 2015 at the age of 74 due to “the debilitating effects following a critical illness”.

NTDA honorary life member Findlay Ferguson Picken died aged 84 on Friday 25 September after a long struggle with Parkinson’s decease. Announcing the news, the NTDA directorate team and executive officers of the association commented that they were “very sad” to hear of his death and added: “our thoughts are with Findlay’s wife Jean and his family and friends.”
Singapore’s Stamford Tyres has announced the death of its longstanding OTR tyre consultant, David Brooks. Brooks, 69, the brother of former Rema Tip Top UK managing director Terry Brooks, finally lost a brave fight against cancer on Sunday, 31 May. He leaves a wife, Janet, daughters, Nicola and Sharon plus grandchildren, Samantha, Louise, Joseph and Ryan.
RH Claydon has released details of the funeral of its founder on behalf of the family, following the news of Roy Claydon’s passing. The funeral service for Roy Claydon, founder and chairman of RH Claydon Ltd, will take place at St Peters Church, Front Street, Ousden, Newmarket, Suffolk on Friday 1 May at 11.30. There is said to be ample parking at the church. All are welcome to attend.
Roy Claydon the founder and chairman of well-known tyre wholesaler RH Claydon Ltd passed away on 16 April aged 88 after succumbing to pneumonia. Roy Claydon formed RH Claydon in 1953 and celebrated the company’s 60th anniversary at Newmarket races two years ago.
