The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has recognised Cooper Tire’s Tupelo and Clarksdale, Mississippi plants as members of its environmental stewardship enHance initiative. A voluntary programme consisting of three-year membership terms, the enHance initiative, which stands for “envision heightened awareness nurturing conservation and environmental excellence,” recognises committed environmental leaders in Mississippi that put in place environmental initiatives beyond those that are required.
Triangle Tire USA is opening its first US warehouse in Madison, Tennessee to supply off-the-road (OTR), medium and heavy truck as well as passenger and light truck tyres to its distributors and dealers. The 53,000 square-foot facility allows for future expansion, according to Triangle.
The organiser of the North American Tire & Retread Expo (NATRE) concedes that last month’s event in New Orleans did not meet expectations. As a result, NATRE will not return in its current format, and the next scheduled show has been postponed while the concept is reconsidered.
Although Continental has already announced its exit from football engagements in Europe, its sponsorship of the sport in North America continues. Continental Tire the Americas has extended its agreement with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), Major League Soccer’s (MLS) commercial arm, to continue as an official partner and the official tyre of MLS in the United States and Canada. Pirelli is raising its prices “up to 9 per cent” in all European and North American markets for car, light truck and moto tyres of all product ranges (summer, all-season, winter) and across all group brands.
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations intends to raise prices for car, light truck, truck/bus, OTR and agricultural tyres, as well as retread products and tubes. The new pricing for North America will take effect 1 January and will see products become up to eight per cent more expensive.
A Michelin Tweel airless radial tyre-wheel combination is now available for golf buggies, initially in North American markets. Michelin North America has announced the launch of the Michelin X Tweel Turf, a replacement for the standard 18X8.5N10 front and rear golf buggy fitment. The X Tweel Turf has a maximum speed of 25 mph and a maximum load of 705 pounds/320 kilogrammes.
Sailun is increasing prices of its commercial truck, passenger and light truck tyres by between 5 and 8 per cent in North America. The increase went into effect 1 January 2017.
As of 16 January, Jeff Barna joins Yokohama Rubber’s North American business as chief operating officer. In his new role at Yokohama Tire Corporation, Bara will report to company president Shinichi Takimoto and be responsible for sales, marketing and product planning functions. Barna will also be a member of Yokohama Tire Corporation’s executive committee.
Throughout the course of this year, Toyo Tire & Rubber’s manufacturing operation in North America will expand its research and development capabilities in order to expedite the development of both original equipment and replacement market tyres. The company has not disclosed the level of investment being made in the Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing facility, however it will result in a 50 per cent increase in the size of the research and development team.
The 2018 Lexus LS saloon is currently on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and Bridgestone Corporation shares that its Bridgestone Turanza T005 run-flat tyre will serve as a standard fitment for cars equipped with 20-inch rims. The fifth generation of Lexus’ flagship line will receive the Turanza T005 in sizes 245/45RF20 99Y and 275/40RF20 102Y.
European customers can purchase the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S as of this month, and the successor to the Pilot Super Sport will also be launched in other global markets. The tyre enjoyed its North American debut today at the NAIAS, or North American International Auto Show, in Detroit.
In response to weakness in the mining market, key North American wheel production is to be relocated from Titan International’s manufacturing facility in Saltville, Virginia to its wheel division headquarters in Quincy, Illinois. The company reports this measure is being taken in order to “take advantage of production capacities.”
Kenda has promoted Brandon Stotsenburg to vice president of its North American Automotive tyre business. Currently director of business development, Stotsenburg succeeds Bob Phoenix, who is retiring 1 January 2017.
