MOT Approval For Beissbarth Test Lane

Beissbarth UK has won approval of its 600 series automatic test lane (ATL) for use in the MOT testing of vehicles. Philip Hodges, Beissbarth UK’s managing director, says he regards this new development as part of their ongoing process of providing the very latest technology to assist in the MOT, which is such a part of everyday motoring requirements and garage revenue.

He added: “The Beissbarth ATL 600 brake tester is capable of testing – as an option – vehicles with the Haldex Clutch as used by VAG and others and which is becoming a feature of many of the four wheel drive off-road vehicles.

Bringing OEM Standards into the Workshop

Bus and Commercial vehicle maintenance facilities around the country are facing increased demand to follow the manufacturers’ recommended specifications on a wide range of bus and chassis components and sub systems. In response to a number of potentially catastrophic events, proper wheel tightening has become a critical procedure. Thanks to Chicago Pneumatic and its BlueTork range of tools – the name comes from ‘Blueprint’ and ‘Torque’ – workshops can now service vehicles back to their original, blueprint torque specification.

According to the company, the BlueTork range is the most advanced family of fastening tools in the industry and takes over where standard impacts and ratchets stop. The range offers torque-limiting (shut-off) impact tools, vibration-free, low-noise pneumatic and electric nut runners as well as wheel assembly machines. It also includes torque and angle measuring equipment, computer controlled tightening wrenches and precision measuring tools.

CP7220H and CP7250H – Get a grip!

Chicago Pneumatic has launched two new handle sanders. The CP7220H and CP7250H series handle sanders combine power, comfort and greater productivity with low noise and low vibration. The power of the new sanders is delivered by a 0.3hp oil-free motor, the most powerful in its class. Given that the sander is a very lightweight, at only 0.9kg, the impressive power-to-weight ratio means minimal operator fatigue and greater productivity.

The adjustable speed regulator (from 0 to 12 000 rpm) provides the operator with a wide range of speed options depending on the application. Other benefits include a special speed control lever, with air shut off when in the closed position, which reduces the risk of accidental start-up and the special oversized hub bearing with dust seal promotes a long service life.

Federal Launches New Hero Tyre Line

Taiwan’s Federal Corporation has rolled out a new addition to its “Hero” brand passenger car line-up, the Atlanta AR01. Produced in China under what Federal assures are uniform quality standards, the Atlanta AR01 is marketed as a high-end product in terms of both safety and value.

The new AR01 features 4 circumferential grooves for water dispersal, improving wet surface road holding, and siping on the tyre’s shoulders is intended to minimise road noise. The quest to create a quieter tyre has also been aided by the computer optimised tread pattern.

Initially the Hero AR01 will be available for three market sectors; high performance, with 195/55R15 and 205/55R16 sizes available. For the touring segment sizes are available to fit rims between 13 and 15-inches with speed ratings up to ‘H’ available. WSW tyres are available in sizes 215/70R15 to 225/70R15, with 16 and 17-inch sizes available at a later date.

Maxxis Introduces US All-Season UHP Line

(Akron/Tire Review) Maxxis International has in the US introduced the Victra Z4S, an all-season UHP. The new Victra Z4S features a solid centre rib and reinforced steel belts for stability, grooving and siping for snow and slush traction, four circumferential grooves for wet traction, five-pitch tread blocks and special groove designs for reduced road noise, V-shaped unidirectional grooves for wet and dry handling, and hard bead filler for cornering, acceleration and handling, Maxxis said.

“The Victra Z4S will undoubtedly be one of our most popular and best-selling passenger tyres,” said Maxxis’ Doug Addis. “Our engineers have developed one of the finest all-season ultra high performance tyres on the market. This tyre now gives us coverage in all aspects of UHP.”

The CP7740 range from Chicago Pneumatic is the most compact and lightweight impact wrench in its class, thanks to a high-performance, dual chamber motor utilising magnesium components and a lightweight magnesium housing – hence term MgDriven technology. The world’s first lavender-scented tyres will soon be beguiling traffic and its drivers, passengers and pedestrians. Delticom has begun selling Kumho’s fragrant tyres in size 205/55 R 16 W Ecsta SPT through its online shops across Europe.

New Touring Tyre from Michelin North America

Michelin North America has released a new addition to its range of offerings for luxury vehicles – the Primacy MXV4 touring tyre. Intended as a replacement for an existing tyre with the same name, the new Primacy MXV4 is available in 32 sizes, ranging from 185/65R15 to 225/60R18 in H-speed rating, and 195/60R15 to 245/45R18 in V-speed rating.

According to Michelin, the new tyre features a unique shape and design that provides long lasting and even tread wear and a tread that reduces vibration and road noise. “The new Michelin Primacy MXV4 tyre delivers an unprecedented and uncompromising combination of benefits that significantly boosts wear life without sacrificing handling performance for a wide spectrum of automobiles and driving styles,” claim Michelin officials said. The new tyre is intended for the North American market only and not available in the UK or Europe.

Pneu-Power For 101 Extraction and Conveying Applications

The Beckair Pneu-Power is a bladeless, motorless fan which provides either powerful vacuum or powerful flow for extracting and conveying all kinds of materials in the processing, manufacturing and bulk handling industries. Because it has no moving parts or electrical connections, it can also be used in hazardous areas.

Using a small volume of compressed air as the power source (supplied through a flexible, 10mm hose) the Pneu-Power draws large volumes of ambient air into a small chamber, amplifying the air flow up to 25 times. Completely maintenance-free, the device operates at low noise levels.

European NGO Highlights Tyre Noise Concerns

The European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) has added a new feature to their website. The major European NGO, whose principal task is to advocate and campaign for sustainable transport, has included a demonstration of tyre noise on its website as part of its effort to highlight how much more can be done to reduce the noise pollution created by road transport.

According to T&E, the majority of noise generated by road traffic comes not from engines but from the sound generated by tyres rubbing on road surfaces. At speeds above 30km/h for passenger cars and 50km/h for lorries tyre noise becomes a greater factor than engine noise. The issue of tyre noise has become more pronounced over time as the trend towards wider tyres has increased.

Asymmetric Tread, Asymmetric Casing: The technology inside the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyre

Goodyear has launched a new tyre designed to replace the much vaunted Eagle F1 GSD3, which scored top marks in almost every test going – including Auto Express, Autocar, Max Power, Evo and Which? But while the old tyre’s symmetrical tread design was key to the product’s success, Goodyear is expecting the new product to succeed exactly because it isn’t. In addition to an asymmetrical tread design, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric features an asymmetric casing construction designed to reinforce one side and squeeze more grip from the tyre. Goodyear representatives told Tyres & Accessories they were gearing up for more award success following the introduction of the ‘Active Cornergrip Technology’ into the design of its latest tyre.

Tyre Noise Directive Delayed

A proposed European Directive on reducing noise from car and truck tyres has been put on the back burner, according to the lobby group Transport & Environment (T&E). The directive sponsored by the Enterprise Directorate should have been published last summer, but has been delayed on several occasions, T & E claims.

Bridgestone Tyres Enhance Brera’s Handling

The Brera coupé is the latest of three Alfa Romeo launches in 2006 to come fitted with Bridgestone tyres and features the F1-derived, ultra-performance Potenza RE50As as an original equipment option. This product is also available on the new Alfa 159 and 159 Sportwagon.
