Nokian launches CT BAS trailer tyre

Nokian Heavy Tyres says it has met user demand with its new Nokian CT BAS tyre for heavy trailers. Noting the challenges posed by construction site use, a surface typically featuring sharp rocks, nails and pieces of steel lying about, it says the CT BAS brings the tyre maker’s top-end puncture resistance technology, first developed for forestry applications, to construction sites. Furthermore, the BAS technology developed by Nokian Heavy Tyres enables the use of higher pressure levels.

Nexen approved for European Octavia, Polo OE

Nexen Tire has secured two further original equipment supply agreements in Europe. Starting in December, the Korean tyre’s rolling resistance optimised N’Blue HD is size 205/55R16 91V will be delivered to Skoda for fitment on the new Octavia, and before the end of the year Nexen will begin shipping the N’Blue HD to Volkswagen for the Polo.

Point S releases WinterStar 3

A new addition has been made to the winter tyre private label distributed by point S. The WinterStar 3 follows on from the WinterStar 2, a point S says it offers optimised traction and braking performance on snow, very good aquaplaning qualities, improved handling on dry roads, high stability in curves and low rolling noise and higher rolling comfort.

Michelin discusses mid-term targets

At the Autumn Conference organised by Luxembourg-based broker Kepler Cheuvreux and held in Paris on 18 September, Michelin chief executive officer Jean-Dominique Senard confirmed the tyre maker’s 2015 operating profit target of €2.9 billion, some 20 per cent higher then 2013 estimates. He also said that capital expenditure is expected to peak between €1.8 billion and €2.2 billion in 2014 and 2015 before declining to between €1.6 billion and €1.9 billion in 2016 and €1.5 billion and €1.8 billion in 2017.

Pirelli soaks-up noise with sponge technology

At first glance, sponges and in-car noise levels don’t seem to have much in common. Yet this springy material, much loved by those with a penchant for cleanliness, has found its way into a tyre Pirelli has developed for original equipment customer Audi, and the Italian tyre maker says the tyre reduces noise considerably.

Milltek’s M135i (F20) performance exhaust system

Milltek has released details of its new performance exhaust system for the new BMW M135i. The latest F20 chassis car features BMW’s twin scroll turbo engine, which Milltek says suits its extraction technology and craftsmanship. Initially launched as a cat-back only set-up, Milltek will provide the additional option of a turbo-back system, complete with large bore downpipe and high-flow cat configurations.

New Volvo C30, V50 performance exhaust from Milltek

The words “sporting Volvo diesel” may have seemed paradoxical not long ago, but exhaust supplier Milltek believes the manufacturer’s new C30 R-Line 2.4 and 2.5 T5 respond well enough to tuning and enhancement that it has added an exhaust system for both models to its burgeoning portfolio. The company has also created a tailored system for the V50 model with the same engine options.

Falken launches all-season range

Falken Tyre Europe has added the first all-season tyre to its portfolio. The Euroall Season AS200, which will be available from July in 27 dimensions, is described as a product that “offers improved traction on dry, wet and even snowy roads without compromising on comfort” along with “significantly reduced tyre rolling noise and shorter braking distances.”

On-road performance a focus for Hankook’s Dynapro HP replacement

Hankook describes the SUV segment as “thriving”, and to cater for this class of vehicles it has released a new high performance summer product, the Dynapro HP2. The tyre maker says the HP2 has been developed primarily for on-road use, and a focus has been placed upon the three label criteria plus comfort levels. The original equipment and aftermarket range mainly covers 15 to 19-inch rim diameter sizes, and many fitments are XL marked.

‘Value that goes places’ – Pirelli’s Formula brand

Information released by Pirelli indicates that its new commercial vehicle second brand, Formula, will be released in steer, drive and trailer fitments; the initial line-up includes five steer sizes, five drive sizes and three trailer sizes. At present, European label ratings are only available for two steer and two drive sizes; the 295/80 R 22.5 and 315/80 R 22.5 steer tyres both achieved a ‘B’ rating for wet grip, ‘C’ for rolling resistance and 72dB external noise. The size 295/80 R 22.5 and 315/80 R 22.5 drive tyres were both rated as ‘B’ for wet grip, ‘D’ for rolling resistance and 74dB for external noise. The other nine sizes are ‘in preparation’.

SD-International’s three 4×4/SUV labels

Shanghai based manufacturer SD-International provides three labels crossing the 4×4/SUV segment’s requirements: Pace, Zeta and Maxtrek ranges. The Maxtrek label offers four 4×4 patterns, the SMT-A8, Sierra S6, SU 800 and Mud Digger for more off-road applications.

Toyo Tires on Toyota Prius+

Proxes R35A have been chosen by Toyota for original equipment fitment on the new Prius+. The first full hybrid seven-seater in Europe has been equipped with Toyo 215/50 R17 91V Proxes R35A from launch.
Toyo Proxes R35A tyres reportedly help the Prius+ to offer the lowest emissions of any seven-seater on the market.

Bridgestone launches latest Exedra touring tyre

Marangoni introduces MIX100 for on/off segment

Marangoni is targeting on/off road users with the latest addition to its Ringtread portfolio, the MIX100. The new product is aimed at on/off segment users who require high mileage at sustained speeds, such as vehicle operators wishing to reduce travel time between quarry and site, while demanding maximum grip and traction on a range of surfaces. The Italian retreading specialist says the MIX100 line-up has been thus developed to minimise vehicle downtime and guarantee high mileage and excellent traction.
