During the annual Nissan Europe Supplier Quality Seminar, representatives from Nissan’s Purchasing Department recognised Goodyear Dunlop’s “excellent quality performance in supplying automotive components to Nissan.” Although it announced news of this honour today, the tyre maker was awarded at a ceremony that took place at the Nissan Brand Center in Barcelona, Spain last September.
Giles Rayner of Nissan has been confirmed as the final speaker in the line-up for the Vehicle Remarketing Association’s free-to-attend Annual Seminar, taking place next week (23 November). The national used vehicle remarketing manager will be looking at alternative fuel vehicles and their likely place in the remarketing mix over the coming year and into the future.

Nissan Motor Corporation’s flagship SUV, the Rogue, is also fitted with Falken tyres as factory standard.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports 180,168 new cars were registered in October, representing modest growth of 1.4 per cent. The growth was largely supported by fleet registrations, with private buyers continuing the trend of small declines. Registrations of alternatively fuelled vehicles continued to show growth in double digits, while the overall total for the year is also growing marginally, showing the resilience of the market. Analysis from KPMG suggests that predicted incremental price increases will not severely affect the market, though lower figures are anticipated in 2017.
Nissan Motor Company Ltd. has committed to producing the next Qashqai crossover vehicle in Sunderland. Executives had warned that this may not happen following the UK’s decision to leave the European Union. However, not only has the company received satisfactory assurances to continue with production of the Qashqai for the next few years (the next Qashqai model is expected to be made in 2018 or 2019). Nissan also confirmed that it will add production of the next X-Trail model at its Sunderland as well in something of a surprise move.

MMC’s share price fell by 45 per cent over the last month after the company announced that fuel economy figures for models in Japan had been inflated, with around 625,000 cars believed to be affected. No announcement has been made about other markets, but investigation in the US is expected to be launched soon.

After admitting to fuel efficiency test irregularities dating back as much as two decades, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has established a special investigation committee to establish precisely what happened. As things stand the committee is made up entirely of external members. Mitsubishi admitted “Improper conduct in fuel consumption testing” on 20 April 2016.
A simple “trick” – or perhaps we should say “cheating” or “fraud” – has been common practice in the European automotive industry, to the displeasure of environmental organisations: Place a car with excessive tyre pressure on a dynamometer and – voilà – lower fuel consumption levels and emissions are recorded thanks to the ‘optimised’ rolling resistance. Mitsubishi has conceded carrying out this practice in Japan with test data submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. This time round it doesn’t affect, as in the case of Volkswagen and its ‘cheat’ software, millions of vehicles, rather ‘only’ 625,000 small cars, the majority of these off-take production for Nissan.

We’ve heard that European new car registrations went up by 9.3 per cent in 2015 and we’ve heard that the UK delivered record figures. But what has been less widely reported is the fact that the strong European increase has been driven by what analysts have called “an SUV boom”. A boom that the British market played a key part in.
For the first time in the history of European car sales, SUVs led the way, outselling the traditional subcompact and compact segments, posting an increase of 24 per cent at 3.2 million units. Their market share grew from 19.8 per cent in 2014 to 22.5 per cent in 2015, leaving the subcompacts in second position with 22 per cent share, and the compacts segment third with 20.6 per cent. These vehicles along with the mid-size saloons and sports cars were the only segments to gain market share in 2015.
Solid Auto UK has added an extra rear suspension lateral link and stabiliser link to its extensive product range for Japanese and Korean vehicles.
In 2015 the British car manufacturing industry made more cars than any year since 2005 when 1,595,697 vehicles were produced, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Data released on 21 January shows that production increased 3.9 per cent on 2014, with output at 1,587,677 overtaking pre-recession levels for the first time.
