The US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued guidance to improve vehicle cybersecurity.
The guidance offers best practices to help protect against breaches and other security failures that put motor vehicle safety at risk, according to US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.

On 9 December, the Rubber Manufacturers Association, the trade association representing tyre makers with a manufacturing presence in the US, offered its four-point plan to US Federal agency the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to help improve motorist safety. The NTSB is currently conducting a two-day symposium to discuss the contribution tyres can make to motor vehicle safety.
Canada’s Dynamic Tire Corp. is recalling almost 17,400 Towmax STR tyres that have been marked with incorrect load capacity and inflation pressure information. The size ST225/75 R15 tyres were manufacturing by Shandong Yongfeng Tyres in China between 15 June and 14 October 2014 and due to the incorrect sidewall markings do not comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 119, ‘New Pneumatic Tires for Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars.’
Crysler Group LLC is recalling 21,042 2014-model year Ram ProMaster vehicles in the US due to a Tyre Press Monitoring System (TPMS) fault. The problem is that in the affected vehicles, the TPMS may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tyre pressure warning light will light-up irrespective of the tyre pressure.
The Tire Industry Association (TIA) reports that it has fed back its views to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Docket Office regarding a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) for tyre identification and record keeping.
