Pirelli has announced its finalised line-up of tyres for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. In the Superbike class, all riders will use 17” Pirelli Diablo Superbike tyres, while the Supersport, Superstock 1000 Fim Cup, and European Junior Cup will ride on the treaded Diablo Supercorsa SC range.
Dunlop’s RoadSmart III has been homologated for the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure and the 1190 Adventure, reports Goodyear Dunlop. The Austrian manufacturer will fit the two bikes with size 120/70 ZR19 and 170/60 ZR17 tyres. According to the tyre maker, the previous-generation RoadSmart II was also used on the KTM adventure bikes and “worked flawlessly” with them.
The global rollout of Michelin’s Anakee Wild trail bike tyre gets under way this month, with four radial fitments – two front wheel and two rear – available in the initial range. While the launch portfolio includes sizes for the ‘flagship’ bike in this category, the BMW R 1200 GS, three additional sizes will join the line-up during the course of this year, extending coverage to most trail bikes on the market. According to information supplied by Michelin, the tyre trio arriving later in 2016 will be non-radial fitments.
TVS Srichakra Limited is set to launch a radial motorcycle tyre range in April. Speaking to the local The Hindu newspaper, company director P. Vijayaraghavan said the new range would “initially cater to the needs of the expanding high-end motorcycles market”.
TVS Srichakra, part of the Chennai-based US$8 billion TVS Group, recently launched tractor rear radial tyres in Europe.
At last November’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Mitas unveiled its Terra Force-R, a dual-purpose radial with a street-oriented tread pattern. The new tyre is an upgrade of the MC30 pattern and places a focus upon durability and stable performance throughout the tyre’s entire lifespan.
Launched this month, the Roadtec 01 is the latest generation of Metzeler sports touring tyre. This successor to the Roadtec Z8 Interact has been developed to offer class leading levels of grip in all weather conditions, and Metzeler says it is perfect for sports touring, naked/sports bikes and adventure machines.
Last October, Pirelli announced the launch of its third generation Diablo Rosso supersport tyre. The Diablo Rosso III range has now been released in the UK in time for the 2016 riding season, and Pirelli Moto UK says it will extensively market these tyres through its sponsorship of the MCE British Superbike Championship.
Following its pre-launch last September, Maxxis has announced that its latest innovation for sports touring riders, the Maxxis Supermaxx ST tyre, is due to go on sale through its network of European motorcycle tyre retailers at the beginning of February.
Avon Tyres has introduced the all-new StreetRunner range of smaller-sized motorcycle tyres for the learner and commuter market. The tyre maker says the StreetRunner is specifically engineered for entry-level bikes that offer less power, but require great tyres with excellent grip, good mileage, nimble handling and strong stability.
In addition to announcing new sizes for its existing lines, cross-ply motorcycle tyre specialist Reifenwerk Heidenau says it is introducing a completely new scooter tyre. The K80 SR will come to market in March in the tubeless sizes 3.50-10 59P, 90/90-10 50M, 100/90-10 61M, 100/90-12 64M, 120/70-12 58S, 130/70-12 62P and 120/80-12 65M, with a summer launch planned for further sizes, such as 90/90-12.
Dunlop has confirmed its participation in several important motorcycle events this year. For 2016, the brand will be on display at MCN London Show, ThundersportGB (Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park), North West 200, Isle of Man TT, Moto GP, Motorcycle Live, MXGP, Western Beach Race and the Dirt Bike Show.
Two new dedicated slick products have entered the Metzeler motorcycle tyre portfolio in 2016. The new treadless pair are the Racetec RR Slick for racing and the Racetec RR Compk Slick for training and amateur track use. Unlike the treaded Racetec RR tyre introduced last year, both new products are NHS (Not for Highway Service) designated and intended only for use on tracks or where allowed by the regulations in road racing competition.
Avon Tyres is getting ready for the new motorcycle season by attending the 2016 Motorcycle Trade Expo on 24-26 January. Calling it the top motorcycle trade show in the UK, Avon said it would use the event to raise awareness of its product range, while using the opportunity to present its dealer support schemes.

According to Goodyear Dunlop, the Dunlop Geomax line of tyres has met with overwhelming success since its introduction. In 2015, at World Championship Grand Prix level, Shaun Simpson, Gautier Paulin and Ryan Villopoto all used Dunlop Geomax tyres to win MXGPs. In the USA pro ranks, Geomax MX32 and MX52 patterned tyres have won every Supercross and motocross national championship four years in a row.
