Avon Tyres has released a new TrailRider fitment aimed at Honda’s new Africa Twin. The TrailRider adventure touring tyre is now available in 150/70 R18 rear size, a size that also fits the recently introduced KTM 1090 Adventure.
During the first quarter of the year, PT Multistrada Arah Sarana sold 72 per cent more Corsa motorcycle tyres than in the corresponding quarter of 2016. The Indonesian tyre maker reports selling 1.4 million Corsa motorcycle tyres during the three-month period. This substantial first quarter growth follows a 33 per cent increase in 2016. Last year, the Indonesian tyre maker sold 4.4 million Corsa motorcycle tyres, up from 3.3 million a year earlier.
Welcome to the third Dunlop hypersport tyre launch within six months. This latest addition, the all-new D213 GP Pro, has been designed for serious ‘pro’ riders and is the successor to the Isle of Man TT winning D212 GP Pro. Following a race debut of key sizes and compounds in major motorsport championships, Dunlop has brought forward the introduction of the full range to July.
We’re used to seeing Continental products winning or securing a podium place in car tyre tests, and in the 12/2017 issue of Motorrad magazine, the tyre maker has also cleaned up in a test of motorcycle tyres. The German publication declared the Road Attack 3 the victor in its comparative evaluation of six size 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 180/55 ZR17 (rear) touring tyres.
Yamaha Motor has unveiled a new touring bike, the Star Venture, and Bridgestone tyres have been selected as original equipment. The Exedra G853 will be fitted as a front wheel fitment in size 130/70 R18M/C 63H and the Exedra G852 for the rear wheel in size 200/55 R16M/C 77H.
ZC Rubber Thailand has added a new production line for motorcycle tyres to support the market in Southeast Asian market. The manufacturer also launched its first bias industrial tyre.
Avon Tyres has launched its latest sport-touring tyres, the Avon Spirit ST, in Portimao earlier this month. The newly appointed brand ambassador, Steve Parrish attended the launch and tested the new tyre. Bookings have opened for former world superbike champion Alex Gramigni’s 2017 Old School Racing events, supported by Pirelli and Yamaha. The exclusive track riding school offers six dates at Mugello in Italy, using Yamaha YZF-R1M machines fitted with Pirelli Diablo Superbike SC3 slick tyres.
Pirelli has renewed its partnership with Youthstream, the organiser of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Under the deal the manufacturer will continue to be the official tyre supplier to the headline international series for off-road motorcycles until the end of the 2019 season. Pirelli has supplied the tyres for 66 world titles (since 1980) in the championship, and calls its Scorpion MX32 “one of its most successful tyres.”
Its pre-launch testing is now complete, and the new, streel-legal Metzeler MC360 motocross tyre is now available. The range is offered in a choice of two compound specifications, Mid-Soft and Mid-Hard. Two front wheel and seven rear wheel sizes are available.
A new Avon sport touring tyre, the Spirit ST, has arrived. This successor to the Avon Storm 3D range is available in eight front wheel and 11 rear wheel sizes, and Avon Tyres says its engineers “have enhanced the performance of their flagship sport-touring tyre so much so that the new Spirit ST is designated as a hypersport touring tyre – offering supreme stability and grip in all riding conditions.”
The Dunlop-shod GMT94 Yamaha team took its third Le Mans 24 Hours victory with a strong performance in the second round of the FIM Endurance World Championship on the Bugatti track. The team took the lead at the 21 hour mark and overcame a late collision with another bike to win by just over a minute. The win on Dunlop’s commercially available KR106/KR108 tyres marks the second victory for David Checa, and the first for Niccolo Canepa and rookie Mike Di Meglio.
Earlier this month, Bridgestone’s Nico Thuy commented that the tyre maker was “aiming for great results with our new team partners” during the year’s FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) series, and during the second round event this goal was realised with a second-place finish. On 16 April, some 75,000 spectators watched the YART Yamaha Official EWC Team finish the 24 Heures Motos Le Mans less than 20 seconds behind fellow Yamaha-backed team GMT 94. The two teams finished 12 laps ahead of the rest of the field.
The Ron Haslam Race School has launched the season with a new tyre partner; Dunlop Tyres. Dunlop’s RoadSmart III tyres will now be fitted to the fleet of Hondas used by the race school to provide an ultimate level of grip and performance at their track days running at the famous Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire.
The latest Street Rod from Harley-Davidson will be equipped with the new Michelin Scorcher 21 as original equipment. Michelin comments that the motorcycle manufacturer’s decision to go with the Scorcher 21 is “the latest demonstration of the mutual confidence and synergies that have flourished between the two companies since 2007 through a partnership founded on the co-development of advanced technologies.”
