Dunlop has been named official tyre partner for the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, a new, JiR-organised championship that aims to find motorcycle racing’s future stars. The Dunlop D213 GP Pro will also serve as the Cup’s control tyre.
“2018 was a turbulent year for the motorcycle market, driven by political and economic uncertainty over Brexit. However, overall sale volumes were broadly in line with the previous year showing that consumers are still choosing to purchase new bikes,” said Stephen Latham, head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.
Schrader Performance Sensors, the automotive aftermarket brand of Sensata Technologies, will launch two new motorcycle TPMS OE replacement sensors into the aftermarket at AutoZum in Salzburg, Austria (16-19 January 2019). Schrader will participate in the show with an updated product portfolio on its 50sqm booth in Hall 10 (stand 0706).
Trelleborg Wheel Systems is investing in a two-wheel tyre factory in India. According to the company, the investment forms part of Trelleborg’s strategy to “strengthen its positions in attractive market segments”. Currently Trelleborg’s mostly makes two-wheel tyres in Europe. Products include tyres for selected niches, such as enduro and motocross, as well as scooters,
mopeds and motorcycles.
The Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S21 has been approved by BMW Motorrad as original equipment on the new S1000RR. This comes as no surprise, given that Bridgestone’s engineers worked with their counterparts at BMW Motorrad to develop a bespoke version of the S21 for BMW’s latest bike.
Motorcycle parts and accessories distributor Bickers is reminding motorists of a few top safety tips they can employ to keep their bike in the best condition while stored during the colder months. The company’s managing director Derek McMartin listed Bickers’ tips to coincide with Road Safety Week, with winter just around the corner.
Commenting on the latest figure released by the Motor Cycle Industry Association, Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK, said: “Following September’s modest growth, it was disappointing to see the new motorcycle market decline by -2 per cent in October. Positively, the market is still above 2017’s levels on a year to date basis”.
British motorcycle brand Avon Tyres is the original equipment fitment for the KTM 790 Adventure, which debuts this week at the EICMA show in Milan.
Apollo Tyres will present its new radial motorcycle tyre at the EICMA show in Milan, which opens to the public tomorrow. Although the Apollo Alpha-H1 is currently only available in India, it is nevertheless of interest to us as Apollo Tyres confirms that “preparations are now underway to further develop and tune the technology for Europe.” Furthermore, the introduction of two-wheeler tyres in Europe will be facilitated by new development and test facilities within the region.

The new Michelin Anakee Adventure, which is due to go on sale in January 2019, has been type approved for fitment to the BMW R 1250 GS. According to Matthew Ye, senior vice-president worldwide for Michelin’s 2Wheel business line, the Anakee Adventure will “especially address the needs of those BMW Motorrad customers who essentially use their trail bike on ordinary roads but who occasionally like to indulge in a little off-roading.”
The Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 has been selected as an original equipment tyre for the 2019 models of the Kawasaki Ninja H2 and Ninja H2 Carbon. The super sport motorcycles will wear the Bridgestone rubber in size 120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) on the front and 200/55ZR17 M/C (78W) on the rear.
The successor to Avon Tyres’ Cobra motorcycle range has arrived. The Cobra, which has built up a reputation in the custom and cruiser segments in the decade since its launch, now hands the baton to the Cobra Chrome. Avon Tyres says the new cruising tourer tyre line offers “improved longevity and more fitment options than ever.”
