Retail customers and dealers will both benefit from a new nationwide campaign that Maxxis is launching for its new Maxxcross MX-ST tyre. MX-ST buyers have the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the MXGP of Italy at Imola on 18 August.
Cambrian Tyres, the largest two-wheel tyre distributor in the UK, has been appointed official importer of Kenda Tire’s motorcycle tyre range in Great Britain. As such, Cambrian is bringing the Kenda brand back after a ten-year absence from the UK two-wheeler market.
A decade ago, around 20 per cent of Pirelli tyres were made according to the company’s Green Performance strategy – with new production systems, reduced environmental impact and low energy consumption. The tyre maker reports this figure reached 49.8 per cent of sales last year, up from 43.5 per cent in 2017. Green Performance tyres accounted for 57.5 per cent of Pirelli’s High Value product sales.
Michelin has introduced a new all-terrain motorcycle tyre. It’s called the Tracker, and with the tyre Michelin is targeting riders who take part in amateur competition as well as those who ride for leisure on a broad spectrum of terrains. The tyre maker says the tread pattern, grip and resilience of the Michelin Tracker make it “perfectly suited to riding on sand, mud and dirt.” The Tracker is also approved for road use.
This year a new range of Pirelli Diablo tyres geared towards track use will be brought to market. The additions for 2019 include: New compounds for the Diablo Superbike slick in the standard 200/60 ZR 17 rear and 120/70 ZR 17 front sizes; a new SCX solution (ExtraSoft) for the Diablo Superbike slick in size 200/65; larger Diablo Superbike Slicks in 200/65 ZR17 rear (SC0 compound) and 125/70 ZR17 front (SC1 compound); a new Diablo Rain rear tyre in size 200/60 ZR 17, available in two different compounds; and a new Diablo Supercorsa SC, the third generation of this range to be introduced.
These words are being written in the unseasonably mild final days of February, and I’m not alone in hoping the sunshine augurs an early start to spring. More than a few riders have decided now’s as good a time as any to start the season, and fingers are crossed within the motorcycle trade that the record temperatures will offset this year’s late Easter.

Stocks of the new Michelin Anakee Adventure arrived in the UK in January. Designed for 80 per cent road use and 20 per cent track/trail use, the Anakee Adventure sits in Michelin’s trail bike portfolio between the Road 5 Trail, which is designed for 100 per cent road use, and the 50 per cent on-/50 per cent off-road Anakee Wild.
The successor to the Pirelli Angel GT sport touring tyre has arrived. Pirelli says the Angel GT II was designed “with the aim of rewriting the rules of the sport touring segment” thanks to its mileage, handling and grip, especially in the wet. It calls the an “evolution of the Italian brand’s interpretation of the Gran Turismo concept.”
European FinTyre Distribution (EfTD) has appointed Riccardo Costa as purchasing director Business Truck & Motorcycle. In this role he will report directly to Alessandro Bruchi, Chief Procurement Officer of EfTD.
Riders in the UK and Europe will encounter a new brand of motorcycle tyre later this year, a brand with its sights set on the big players. Entering a hotly-contested market poses a sizable challenge, but the newcomer has several aces up its sleeve. Not only is it produced by a major tyre maker that is already established in Europe, anyone who’s ever shopped for car tyres will find the brand reassuringly familiar.

Numerous niche subcategories now exist within key segments of the motorcycle market, a phenomenon mirroring the high proportion of bike owners riding for pleasure. This blurring of traditional segment boundaries presents a challenge to tyre makers, who must decide between a ‘one size fits all’ approach or striving to meet the individual needs of a growing number of rider groups. The big news from Dunlop this spring is the imminent release of a new hypersport tyre range, the fifth it has introduced in the last two years. “Dunlop is now the freshest and most diverse range in the hypersport segment,” declares Carpentier when introducing the SportSmart Mk3. This successor to the SportSmart 2 Max is Dunlop’s most balanced hypersport product, and as such will be its biggest volume seller in the segment. The SportSmart Mk3 has been launched in one front and five rear sizes.
This coming weekend marks the start of this year’s FIM Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships. The 19-round season begins in Qatar and continues through to a concluding round in Valencia, Spain in November. For Dunlop, this is its tenth season in Moto2 – the tyre maker has served as official tyre partner since the championship’s inception. Dunlop says it was chosen for this role after becoming the most successful tyre in the open-competition 250GP class that preceded it.
The ContiTrailAttack 3 has arrived in the UK motorcycle market, and Cambrian Tyres is confident this new addition will build upon the solid reputation of its predecessor. The Continental tyre is predominantly aimed at road going adventure motorcycles.
