New motorbike battery laws, effective 1 July, see the most common type of motorbike battery, a ‘dry battery’, become illegal to buy or sell unless customers have a valid Explosives Precursors and Poisons (EPP) licence. The licence costs £39.50.
Maxxis will be using next week’s EICMA event to treat its fans with a sneak peak at its latest tyre innovations. The tyre manufacturer will be exhibiting plans to introduce its latest ATV and motorcycle tyres to the market. It will also be announcing “exciting new [OE] plans in the pipeline”, and will also be joined by a newly crowned world champion.
Beta Boano and Maxxis-sponsored rider Brad Freeman has added another title to his name after crossing the finish line in first place on Maxxis MaxxEnduro tyres and winning the Enduro GP Junior Class title at this year’s Maxxis FIM EnduroGP World Championship.
For the enduro world championship, Freeman used MaxxEnduro tyres, designed to perfectly fit enduro conditions. The tyre features side blocks, which provide accurate steering and handle aggressive cornering in the muddiest of conditions.
Pirelli’s contract with promoter-organiser Doma and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to be the official tyre supplier to the Superbike World Championship for all classes has been extended by two years to cover the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The technical partnership between the Italian tyre manufacturer and the production bike based series, which started in 2004, is the longest running control tyre supply deal in international motorsport history. The previous contract was due to expire at the end of the 2018 season.

On 24 September 2017, tens of thousands of bikers worldwide will once more don their finest threads and dust off their vintage and classic motorbikes for a city tour. And all for a good cause: the event, which is taking place for the sixth time, has the aim of raising money to fight prostate cancer and fund suicide prevention initiatives. Last year it collected more than 3.6 million US dollars, and in 2017 organisers hope to raise over 5 million dollars.

Pirelli enters its tenth season at Donington Park supporting the MCE British Superbike Championship as both presenting sponsor and sole tyre supplier with newly developed rubber to increase the pace. Shane Byrne starts as title favourite, targeting a sixth series crown, but he will be forced to fight for every race by rivals Leon Haslam, 2015 BSB Champ Josh Brookes and ex-World Superbike Champion Sylvain Guintoli. The 25 rider grid features 10 race-winners, and a further five podium-finishers.
“Following extremely high numbers of bikes registered in December (10,990) the slowdown seen in January was hugely anticipated. Compared with last year’s strong results, this shows a decline of -15.6 per cent which is, surprisingly, reasonable”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.
British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has selected the Avon Cobra tyre as the original equipment fitment for the newly launched Triumph Bonneville Bobber.
Avon’s 100/90-19 57V Cobra, which exists within the current motorcycle tyre range, has been further developed to improve performance and is the front tyre of choice on Triumph’s latest bike.
“In what is traditionally a low volume month for motorcycle registrations, it was encouraging to see a strong 4 per cent growth in sales over the same period last year – ahead of the 66-plate change next month”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.
The Michelin Group has acquired Levorin, a Brazilian manufacturer of bicycle and motorcycle tyres.
Levorin is a family business which was founded in 1943 by Hercules Levorin. It specializes in the production of tyres for the commuter segment in Brazil. In 2015 Levorin had an annual turnover of 135 million euros and employs 2,000 people at its two plants in Sao Paulo and Manaus.

Maxxis has confirmed it will renew its winning partnership with British Superbike legend, Chris ‘Stalker’ Walker in 2016. The MCE BSB runner-up and multiple race winner will once again be the face of Maxxis’ road bike offering, and continue to help the manufacturer develop the next generation of track and tarmac tyres.
The company will also continue its relationship with Lee Dunham and, in return for this support, the successful rider-turned-trainer will assist the Maxxis R&D team to create the next generation of motocross tyres
‘STORM Pulse’ is the world’s first long-distance electric motorcycle, with a range of 380 kilometres. The radical motorcycle has been developed by the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) student team who will be riding this motorcycle around the world in 80 days in 2016.
For this challenge, the team have chosen Dunlop’s latest Sport Touring tyre – the RoadSmart III.
CEAT, India’s second largest two-wheeler tyre company, has signed an exclusive distribution partnership with Pirelli. Pirelli was once the owner of CEAT – Cavi Electrici e Affini Torino SpA – but RPG acquired CEAT in India in 1982. Nevertheless Pirelli continued to hold the global rights for the brand until five years ago.
