Marangoni MiTo Goes Flat Out

Just a couple of months after its debut at November’s Essen Motor Show, Tyres & Accessories has heard that Marangoni’s souped-up 233 bhp Alfa Romeo MiTo project car recently encountered an altogether more normal problem. Yes, you guessed it, the MiTo’s specialist Mythos tyres decided to suck up a nail. However, all was not lost as company representatives decided to practice what they preach and make use of their own lifetime warranty.

The rogue nail attacked the MiTo’s special “fire red” 18-inch Marangoni Mythos tyres during a recent test drive by a leading consumer press title at Bruntingthorpe Test Ground. Unbeknown to the test drivers, the puncture occurred just one week and only 1,000 miles after this set of tyres had been fitted. The puncture only became apparent when preparing the car for a special press photo shoot.

Marangoni Supplies Tyres for First Tuned Alfa Mito

Marrangoni Tyre is supply red rubber for the first tuned Alfa Mito, on display at the forthcoming Essen Motor Show (27 November to 7 December 2008). It’s called the M430, however the reason for the name has, for now, been kept secret. Following the success of the Fiat 500, Marangoni is aiming to demonstrate its interest in tuning very shortly after the release of the production vehicle (on 12 September).

Yokohama to Exhibit at Sao Paulo Motor Show

Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced that it will participate in the 25th International Automobile Trade Show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The show, which is reputedly the largest motor show in Latin America, runs from 27 October through 9 November and offers the Japanese tyre manufacturer the opportunity to increase recognition of the “Yokohama” brand in Latin America, a key region in its global growth strategy. At the previous show in 2006 a total of 650,000 people visited, 100,000 more than in 2004. Yokohama established a local subsidiary called Yokohama Rubber Latin America Comercio Ltda. in Sao Paulo, Brazil in April 2008. The aim here is to for Yokohama to strengthen its marketing and increase sales in the largest market in Latin America.

Bridgestone Presents Safety Award at Paris Motor Show

For the third consecutive year, Bridgestone has sponsored the “Best Safety Innovation” prize in the international competition for automotive design students organised by Interior Motives magazine. The award was presented by Benoit Raulin, managing director Bridgestone France, at the Interior Motives Design Awards 2008 ceremony, held during the Paris Motor Show.

The audience of leading motor industry professionals attending the motor show saw the safety award and cash prize presented to French student Pierre Sabas for his design of a futuristic protective shell that wraps around each occupant of the vehicle and protective side panels integrated in the roll bars. This imaginative concept also won him the top Interior Motives Student Designer of the Year award.

A6 Fitment First European Luxury Saloon OE for Alcoa Dura-Bright

When Audi chose aluminium as a major component on the original A8, it turned to Alcoa for assistance in the building off the vehicle’s space frame. The cooperation between the two companies also extends to Alcoa’s wheel products; the new A6 debuted at this year’s Paris International Motor Show, and the new model arrives fitted with Alcoa forged aluminium wheels featuring the company’s patented Dura-Bright technology surface treatment.

Yokohama to Present at Paris Motor Show

Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., is to take part in this year’s Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’Automobile), which runs from 4 – 19 October. According to the company, Yokohama Rubber will display products integrating the latest tyre technology, including its global flagship brand “Advan” series. Yokohama will also show a Parotech P24 – a tuned VW Touareg – and its .drive, Geolandar and the Parada Spec-X tyres.

Michelin-Venturi Electric Vehicle to be Unveiled at Paris Show

On September 12 Michelin announced that it is working together with Monaco based Venturi Automobiles on the production of a new generation electric vehicle. The partnership, says Venturi, enables Michelin to demonstrate the capabilities of its latest innovations on a high-performance vehicle, while enabling the automotive manufacturer to produce a vehicle featuring unprecedented architecture, dynamic qualities and overall technological excellence.

Winner of Toyo Tires Motorshow Competition Collects Mazda2

Dominique Taylor from Chorleywood is set to enjoy a weekend behind the wheel of a Mazda2 supermini after winning the fabulous prize in a competition run by Japanese tyre manufacturer Toyo Tyres. The competition, held at the recent British International Motor Show, tasked visitors to the Toyo Tires stand with answering a simple question for the chance to win a range of exciting prizes.

“I’m thrilled to have won the Mazda2 Sport 5dr for the weekend,” exclaimed Dominique. “It’s a wonderful car with a really great design. It’s extremely agile too so it is perfect for driving around town.”

Successful Motor Show For Toyo

At this year’s British International Motor Show, Toyo Tyre UK Ltd. represented Toyo Tires; the first time that the company had exhibited at the event. The show, held at London’s Excel centre attracted 472,300 visitors -an increase from the 415,000 who visited the show 2 years ago – showing that it is not only the biggest consumer show in the UK, but is also a major event in the International Motoring calendar.

Toyo Tires had a major presence at the show with a two-tier stand that covered 120 square metres. The company was the only tyre manufacturer at the show and had a prime location in one of the main halls.

Toyo an OE Partner for Record Breaking Renault Model

The sportiest version of Renault’s Mégane yet manufactured, the Mégane Renaultsport R26.R, is to feature Toyo tyres as an OE option. The performance hatchback, which had its public debut at the British International Motor Show, will be made available from October in a limited edition restricted to just 450 vehicles, and each will be fitted with Toyo Proxes R88 tyres. The tyres are an option on the Mégane R26.R in conjunction with a roll cage for those who want to use the car on track, replacing the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres in size 225/40R18 otherwise supplied with the car. As the car is a lightweight circuit special with a notable performance to price ratio, the roll cage and track tyre combination is anticipated to be a popular option.

Motor Show Visitor Numbers Up 14 Per Cent

The organisers of this summer’s British International Motor Show, sponsored by Zurich Connect, have announced that 472,300 people visited the ExCeL-based event – a 14 per cent increase on the 415,000 who came to the successful 2006 exhibition.

Throughout the 12-day event, car fans and motoring enthusiasts were treated to a feast of world vehicle premieres, concept cars and driving challenges, while families and children enjoyed a range of interactive events.

Cooper Strikes Deal with Lightning GT

Cooper Tire’s ultra-high performance Cooper Zeon 2XS is to be unveiled as OE on the new electric sportscar, the Lightning GT, at the British International Motor Show, currently taking place at Excel in London until 3 August.

Every Lightning GT built will be fitted with the Zeon 2XS as standard on its 20 inch rim size. The tyre’s cornering ability and steering response won it the right to be OE-fitted on the 700bhp, 130mph sportscar. Michelin to Demo Rolling Resistance Performance at London Show

Michelin has announced that it will run a live, full size demonstration its new Energy Saver tyres at the British International Motor Show at ExCel, London Docklands from 23 July to 3 August. Michelin aims to illustrate its tyres’ rolling resistance performance with two identical driverless cars, one fitted with Michelin Energy Saver tyres and the other with a non rolling resistance optimised product. The two cars will be simultaneously released and allowed to roll down a ski-slope type ramp, with an up-ramp at the opposite end. Michelin representatives said it a statement that the car fitted with Energy Saver tyres will “roll for longer and thus cover a greater distance before coming to a standstill.”

Bridgestone Promotes Safe and Green at Geneva

Bridgestone has used the opportunity afforded by the Geneva Motor Show to feature road safety exhibits alongside its latest products. 2007 was the third year for the company’s Think Before You Drive road safety campaign, and the year’s activities have been reviewed in detail; these include the findings from the approximately 70,000 tyre safety checks conducted throughout Europe between 2005 and 2007. This joint Bridgestone / FIA Foundation (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) initiative is aimed at reducing road accidents by promoting simple safety procedures, including correct tyre care. The tyre safety check findings are projected to illustrate how tyre maintenance can contribute to what Bridgestone calls a ‘safer and greener’ society.

Kumho OE for Mercedes-Benz Viano X-Clusive

Kumho has entered into an agreement with Daimler AG to provide tyres for OE fitment to the new Mercedes-Benz Viano X-Clusive, the German manufacturer’s luxury MPV first displayed at last October’s Tokyo motor show and scheduled for release in March.

The new vehicle will be supplied with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, and the agreement with Kumho will see around 10,000 tyres delivered. The Viano X-Clusive is the second Mercedes-Benz model to be supplied by the South Korean manufacturer – its tyres have also been fitted as OE to the A-Class since February 2007.
