Tyre industry pioneers, Michelin has a long history. Having begun in 1889, Michelin is now the second-largest tyre manufacturer in the world after Bridgestone and larger than both Goodyear and Contineantal.
Yves Pouliquen has joined Apollo Vredestein as head of sales and marketing of the tyre maker’s Europe division. He began in the role this month, bringing with him more than two decades of tyre industry experience.
Michelin is launching a new CargoXBib High Flotation trailer tyre, with four VF-rated sizes designed to minimise soil compaction. The VF 650/55 R26.5, VF 600/55 R26.5, VF 710/50 R26.5 and VF 750/60 R30.5 utilise the latest Michelin Ultraflex Technology, increasing flexibility and, therefore, having even less impact on the soil than the existing CargoXBib High Flotation range.
Michelin has selected to use autonomous trucks made by Einride within its supply chain. According to the company, roll-out will commence in 2020, initially with the deployment of Einride’s T-pod – an autonomous, electric truck – at Michelin sites in France.

A new prototype wheel technology showcased at the Movin’On sustainable mobility summit this week promises to put an end to punctures, spare tyres (or that awful can of repair foam lurking in the bowels of your car’s boot) and regular tyre pressure checks. It’s called the Michelin Uptis Prototype – short for ‘Unique Punctureproof Tire System’. The tyre/rim combination builds upon the Michelin Tweel technology used in lawncare and industrial applications, and Michelin stresses it is more than merely a concept.

Sean McManus Tyres has become the 21st tyre retailer to join the Michelin Auto Professional (MAP) dealer network in Ireland. The independent dealership, based in Drogheda, County Louth will display Michelin Certified Centre signage across its site, reflecting Michelin’s seal of approval.

East Lothian-based J Haig Hamilton & Sons is reaping the rewards after becoming the first farm in Scotland to fit the latest size in Michelin’s growing AxioBib 2 tyre range. Haig Hamilton invested in a new John Deere 8400 from dealer stock, but knew the 900mm width of the original equipment rear tyres wasn’t suitable for the root-crop farming operation on the more than 3,000 acres of land he oversees.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will move its heavy fire appliances to a 100 per cent Michelin policy, after testing demonstrated the tyres could outperform its existing competitor fitments. The service called on Michelin to demonstrate the capabilities of its 315/70 R 22.5 X Multi Z tyre, as it explored options for replacing its existing policy, which was not delivering on longevity.

Florent Menegaux has succeeded Jean-Dominique Senard as head of the Michelin Group. He officially took on the role of chief executive officer at the company’s 2019 Annual General Meeting, which was held last Friday.
Jonathan Layton has taken on a new role at Michelin. As of this month, the former national fleet sales manager has been appointed national sales manager, UK and Republic of Ireland, for Michelin’s Services & Solutions business line.
