Tyre industry pioneers, Michelin has a long history. Having begun in 1889, Michelin is now the second-largest tyre manufacturer in the world after Bridgestone and larger than both Goodyear and Contineantal.
Wheely-Safe reports that Aberdeen City Council is fitting Michelin Tyre Pressure Management System (TPMS) Light Fleet across 200 new Renault light commercial vehicles. It has been specified on all new Renault Kangoo, Master and Trafic vehicles – comprising a mix of panel vans, plus chassis cabs with Derby, dropside and tipper bodies – joining the council’s vehicle fleet in 2019.
Businesses could be extending their tyre replacement intervals and taking advantage of greater efficiency savings if company car and van drivers were encouraged to take greater care of their tyres, advises Michelin’s fleet team. The workforce at the Michelin tyre plant in Hallstadt, Germany was told yesterday that tough times lie ahead. Michelin has gained the Supplier Relations and Responsible Purchasing Label (Label Relations Fournisseurs & Achats Responsables, or RFAR), a recognition given to distinguish French companies that demonstrate lasting and balanced relationships with their suppliers. This distinction follows the recent receipt of a certificate of maturity for purchasing practices in relation to the new ISO 20400 sustainable procurement standard.
Members of the Michelin Fleet Panel have requested Transport Select Committee member and MP for Stoke-On-Trent South, Jack Brereton, to seek clarity from the government on tax changes in preparation for the introduction of the Worldwide harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) from April 2020.
Boughey Distribution, part of NWF Group, is rolling out Michelin’s EffiTrailer telematics system across all 236 trailers in its fleet. The move follows a trial organised by local Michelin advocate dealer Quinton Tyres. which demonstrated the potential further safety and efficiency improvements of the technology. The Nantwich-based logistics firm ran EffiTrailer on 12 standard length trailers and 10 Longer Semi-Trailers (LSTs) for more than a year, collecting a wealth of data and experience, before making the investment.
Following a bidding process, Michelin has chosen French advertising agency BETC as its new strategic agency. The tyre maker says its final choice was between BETC and Ogilvy.
