Delphi reconfirmed as The Parts Alliance preferred supplier

The Parts Alliance announced Delphi’s reconfirmation as its preferred supplier of premium braking systems in June. Steve Fulford reasoned that Delphi is “strategically best positioned for our distribution network and more than 20,000 customers. As a leading supplier to the top 25 vehicle manufacturers worldwide, Delphi’s established presence on the OE platform and their expertise complement our future strategies. Not only will we have access to their high quality parts but also training and support services to deliver the most comprehensive solution to our customers.”

Parents fail school tyre safety ‘test’

Motorists carry their most precious cargo when making the school run, but that’s no guarantee that the vehicles they use will be fit for duty. Time spent by Falken at Moorfield Primary School in Shropshire uncovered a high number of illegal tyres – eight out of the 25 parents’ cars checked were fitted with tyres that didn’t make the grade. The school car park check also identified one tyre with a nail in it and a further two had tyres over ten years old. In the interests of safety, Falken provided vouchers for free tyres and fitting to the first five owners with illegally worn or damaged tyres.

Parts Alliance wins £4 million Micheldever prime supply partner deal

The Parts Alliance has announced its reappointment as prime supply partner to Micheldever for the next two years. The parts distributor will supply Micheldever’s national network of 61 fast fit centres with a full range of vehicle parts, covering braking, steering and suspension, emissions and general service and repair products. The Alliance estimates the deal is worth over £2 million per year.

Huw Lewis signs Michelin Certified Centre 2013 agreement

Huw Lewis Tyres, a family run tyre dealer with three sites in and around Aberystwyth, became the first independent tyre dealer to sign a long term contract with Michelin in March. The agreement follows a partnership begun in the second half of 2012 with ATS Euromaster, for whose fleet customers Huw Lewis Tyres provides local services. From the acquisition of the former ATS Euromaster Aberystwyth site in 2009, the tyre retailer has since expanded to three sites with Lampeter and Machynlleth run by Lewis’s two sons – all this merely seven years after Huw started his business.

Micheldever praises Motor Codes shortlisting

Micheldever’s retail director has called the shortlisting of four Micheldever/Protyre tyre centres in the annual Motor Codes Garage of the Year competition as a “fantastic achievement.” The entries represent the largest number of finalists from an independent tyre centre group; the Micheldever locations shortlisted in the independent garages category are Micheldever Station (near Winchester), Harris Brothers (near Swansea), Thistlewaites Tyres (Bolton), and Barry and Wilkinson (Winsford, Cheshire).

Southam Tyres adds Falken 4×4 tyre to range

Micheldever’s 4×4 tyre specialist distributor Southam Tyres has announced that it will add the Falken WildPeak WP/AT01 all-terrain tyre to its range. Falken Tyres UK director, Matt Smith says: “Falken will be adding more size ranges for the UK replacement market in order to meet the demand for performance 4×4 and SUV tyres.”

Half of tyres changed at illegal tread depths

Micheldever Tyres Service’s latest quarterly tread depth analysis shows that between March 2012 and March 2013 between 50 and 60 per cent of tyres taken off in depots were already below the 1.6 millimetre legal limit. A further 40 per cent were on or just above it and only around three per cent were above 2 millimetres. Flicking back to when the research began in June 2008 it is clear to see that that the situation has deteriorated markedly over the last four or five years. Back then only around 15 per cent of tyres brought into depots were already illegal. Now it is more than triple that.

Being ‘serviced’ by Daniel Craig is perhaps not everyone’s idea of a pleasant day, but it appears that quite a few female motorists wouldn’t mind having the James Bond star as their personal motor mechanic. Micheldever appoints BNP Paribas Real for property services

Following single party negotiations, Micheldever Tyres has appointed BNP Paribas Real Estate as its principal supplier for rent review, rating and building surveying services. BNP Paribas said other services are likely to be required, including provision of an extranet and reorganisation of its estates records.

Baldwin declares war on illegal tyres

Micheldever wholesale director Alan Baldwin virtually declared war on illegal tyres recently, with a media campaign designed to generate considerable media interest. This resulted in him undertaking some 13 radio interviews recently reaching over 1 million radio listeners in the UK.

GiTi, Micheldever make Northern Tyre and Battery first GTPC dealer of the quarter

GiTi Tire and Micheldever have named Huddersfield-based Northern Tyre and Battery Service (NTBS) the first winner of the GT Radial Performance Centre (GTPC) Dealer of the Quarter. The Award, which will be presented every three months, is judged on a number of key criteria through the “Passport To Profit” programme, including an analysis of how the GT Radial brand has been promoted proactively in the local area, a commitment to work together to develop the business, innovative routes to market and tyre sales.

Tructyre Fleet Management buys PK Commercial

Tructyre Fleet Management has nearly doubled its size following the strategic acquisition of one of its competitors, the PK Commercial group of companies. Based just off the M3 near Winnall in Winchester, Trucktyre Fleet Management manages and maintains tyres on large commercial fleets of trucks and vehicles for customers such as large supermarkets, hauliers and other transport companies, principally covering the south coast up to the M4 and London and Weymouth to Portsmouth.

General dealers visit SEMA

18 top General Tire dealers from the UK recently visited the SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas as invited delegates of Micheldever Tyres, the UK distributor of General Tire.

The trip was hosted by Amelia Lion, MTS marketing manager house brands and Alan Baldwin, MTS wholesale director, who commented: “After distributing quite a few million 4×4 tyres in the UK market over the past years, visiting SEMA, the home of 4×4, was long overdue.”

Micheldever: more than half of cars on illegal tyres

Micheldever Tyre Services reports that tyre industry records were being broken in September, but in the worst possible manner for the safety of the British motoring public. Instead of reporting that more and better quality tyres are being sold as you might expect, the tyre wholesaler reports that retail depots are changing tyres in a worse state than ever.

Kumho Tyres launches "Cash for Causes" community projects

Kumho Tyres has launched a summer campaign ‘Cash for Causes’, supported by the Korean brand’s UK dealers and a new website. The company says that it will donate £100,000 to deserving causes, charities, local groups and projects across the country via the network of ECSTA Performance Centre (EPC) independent retailers it supports in the UK through its national distributor Micheldever Tyre Services. So far, Kumho says that over 200 EPC dealers have signed up to take part in the ‘Cash for Causes’ campaign, each selecting two local community projects they feel deserve a donation. Nominated causes then go head to head in a public vote to see which one the community feels should receive the larger share.
