A spokesman for Micheldever firmly stated its appreciation: “We are very grateful for the support of our customers in recognising our efforts and backing this with a nomination in the Wholesaler Category.
Kumho clearly believes the “wake-up calls” of the last two UK winters will drive demand for a wider range of winter tyres in the market, as it has announced it will supply six patterns for the 2011-2012 season through its distributor Micheldever Tyre Services. With another harsh winter on the horizon, Kumho expects demand for cold weather tyres to top the new heights seen in the past two years, listing tyres suitable for fitment on the smallest cars up to light commercial vehicles.
The director of Caparo T1 Cars has spoken of his admiration for Toyo’s road-legal Proxes R888 tyre, which was fitted to the Caparo T1 for the Goodwood Hill Climb, Matt Cummings, director, Caparo T1 Cars Ltd said: “It's the next best thing to fitting a full on racing slick to our Caparo T1. If that sounds like a compromise, it isn't. Because what you never forget, is like the T1, the Toyo R888 is fully road legal. The Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2011 was a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the amazing capabilities of the T1 and the Toyo Proxes R888.”

Tyre safety will be a key theme at the joint Protyre/Toyo Tires stand at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Micheldever Tyre Services and Continental Tyre Group have signed an exclusive agreement for the sales of the General Tire brand in the UK. Formalised on 8 December 2010, the news follows 16 years that have seen the leading wholesaler develop the prestigious General 4×4 brand in the UK market and subsequently introducing the passenger and van range to the UK in 2010.
The people at Pellon Autocentre are celebrating the company’s 21st year in business, following the firm’s anniversary in February. To mark the occasion they are having a new website built, which is designed to bring all their online web services into one place.
The first tyre technicians to graduate from a Kumho Tyres supported NVQ training programme were honoured at a special ceremony held at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium in October.
For the last 18 months Kumho has been promoting a range of government-backed apprenticeships in vehicle fitting operations to selected members of its ECSTA Performance Centre (EPC) network of retailers. In recognition of their achievement, the first seven to complete their courses were invited to receive commemorative glass trophies, which were presented during Kumho’s recent 50th Anniversary celebrations at Old Trafford.
Micheldever’s Wholesale division has appointed Jason Burgess and Mike Hawes as general sales manager (North) and general sales manager (South) respectively in a new wholesale structure recently announced by MTS wholesale director Alan Baldwin. The new appointees will directly report to the wholesale director.
Alan Baldwin explained: “In order to further enhance our sales effectiveness and customer support levels across the UK, we have simplified reporting channels and responsibilities into two new geographical business units, with all Northern field sales teams and sales offices reporting to Jason Burgess, and the Southern operations to Mike Hawes.
Micheldever’s top Kumho dealers Forest of Dean tires and A&M tires Wigan joined Alan Baldwin, MTS wholesale director, Amelia Lion, Brand sales co-ordinator and Andy Spry, Protyre regional manager for the recent Manchester United home game at Old Trafford v Wolves, which United clinched with a last minute winning goal. All were entertained pre-match by Manchester United Legends Andrew Cole and Denis Irwin, both treble winners with United, and Andy Richie, the youngest ever hat trick scorer for Manchester United.
Micheldever Tyre Services recently appointed Neil Schmid as its new Kumho brand manager. Having been with Micheldever for 15 years, Schmid has most recently worked as an area sales manager in the South West and will now take on the additional responsibility of marketing and developing the Kumho brand across the UK. According to the company, he has a wealth of experience in the tyre industry, having started work in his father’s garage at the age of 14. Neil Schmid has since worked in various different areas of the industry providing him with experience in fitting, fleet, retail and wholesale.
